Chapter 477 He Is My Son
"Not sure. You keep following the original route, I'll try a different direction and see if I can catch up with them."
As Benjamin spoke, he floored the gas pedal and shot forward.
Matthew looked worriedly in his direction, then followed the original road toward the airport.
About ten minutes later, Benjamin called again.
Matthew immediately answered, "What's the situation on your end? What the hell is Lachlan up to?"
"He's circling the entire Silverlight City. Either he's trying to shake us off before going back to the airport, or... they never planned to leave the country at all."
Benjamin's hand gripped the steering wheel so tightly that veins bulged on the back of his hand.
Who knew how much effort it took for him to suppress all the panic and rage inside.
How dare Lachlan...
Matthew frowned, somewhat confused. "If he's not leaving the country, where is he planning to take Sophia?"
He remembered that in the recording Sophia left behind, she mentioned the GeneCipher Society headquarters was located in Celestria.
If Lachlan weren't leaving the country, it would be hard to complete the experiment, since most of his people were abroad.
Elijah was abroad, too.
So he was more inclined toward the first possibility—that Lachlan wanted to shake off everyone following him, then go to the airport.
So Matthew drove straight to the airport and parked, waiting for them to come to him.
Benjamin soon caught up with Lachlan's car, but it was well protected.
About five or six cars followed in front and behind, surrounding it almost completely.
Benjamin guessed that these cars probably held the bodyguards who had gone to Maple Grove Villas today.
He frowned and told Matthew about the situation.
Matthew looked down at the constantly moving red dot flashing on his screen. "Be careful, don't act rashly. I've already sent my people to the airport."
"Okay."
Benjamin ended the call and called Chase, instructing him to go through the Lumina Group's order information again.
Chase was puzzled. "Mr. White, have you found something new?"
"Don't ask so many questions right now. Just check if any delivery addresses are near Silverlight City airport."
"Okay, I'll look right away!"
After hanging up, Benjamin kept following the vehicles ahead at a steady distance.
Just as he guessed, Lachlan made a big circle and came back to the airport.
Then he passed by the airport and circled again.
Benjamin worried about being spotted, so he had Eldon bring over a car from his garage that he didn't often drive, then switched cars and continued following.
Lachlan circled three whole times. The entire afternoon passed, and the sky gradually darkened.
Benjamin became even more cautious.
Matthew suggested, "Should we call the police? The longer we wait, the more uneasy I feel."
"Okay, I'll call the police right now."
He was about to dial when he noticed the red dot on his phone screen had suddenly disappeared.
Matthew sat up abruptly, staring at his phone screen in shock. "What's going on?"
"Oh no, they're using a signal jammer."
Benjamin gritted his teeth. Looking up, he saw many identical cars ahead.
Those cars were weaving back and forth on the road, creating a traffic jam that blocked his car behind them.
He slammed on the brakes and punched the steering wheel, veins bulging on his forehead from anger.
"What do we do now? Will Sophia be in danger?" Matthew asked nervously.
Benjamin didn't answer his question, but instead instructed him, "Go into the airport immediately with your people and keep watch. I'll have Eldon block them at the next intersection."
"Okay, that's all we can do for now." Matthew sighed and hung up.
By this time, Lachlan's car had already driven far away.
As soon as Sophia got in the car, a black cloth was placed over her eyes. All she could see was darkness.
She said nothing, leaning against the back seat to rest.
On the surface, she was resting, but actually, she was silently recalling the map in her mind, trying to figure out where they were.
But Lachlan kept talking to her, disrupting her thoughts—she didn't know if it was intentional or not.
He told her a lot about the grudges of the previous generation, and also mentioned why he had targeted the White family.
It was pretty much as she had guessed—Lachlan believed Magnus had caused his mother's death.
Combined with his resentment about Magnus marrying Amelia, old and new grudges together made him determined to break them apart.
As it turned out, he had indeed succeeded.
Dashiell's hypnosis skills were excellent, and with various psychological suggestions over time, Amelia began to become unstable.
"I see." Sophia nodded knowingly, then asked, "Actually, there's one more thing I don't quite understand."
"Go ahead." Lachlan was in a good mood and particularly patient with Sophia.
"Magnus has three sons. Why did you specifically choose Benjamin?"
This was a question she'd been curious about for a long time but had never found an answer to.
Logically, Benjamin was still in the womb at the time, so there couldn't have been any deep hatred between him and Lachlan.
"Why—" Lachlan suddenly laughed.
Sophia's eyes were covered, so she couldn't see his expression clearly, but inexplicably, she felt a chill run down her spine.
The next second, she heard Lachlan answer, "Because... he's my son, a bastard. Do you still like him?"
Sophia's face went pale, and her body stiffened. "What did you say? That's impossible!"
Benjamin... how could that be?
Lachlan suddenly burst out laughing. "How about that? Don't you find him disgusting now? The husband you risked your life to protect is an illegitimate child."
Sophia's eyes suddenly welled up with tears, soaking through the cloth. "No, I only feel more heartbroken for him."
People can't choose their birth. If anyone's to blame, it's the people who gave him that birth.
She just couldn't imagine how devastated Benjamin would be if he knew about this.
She wanted so badly to go back to Benjamin's side right now and hold him.
Hearing Sophia's answer, the smile on Lachlan's face slowly faded.
He narrowed his eyes and leaned closer to her. "You really don't find it disgusting?"
The rage in Sophia's chest erupted uncontrollably. She said through gritted teeth, "Isn't the most disgusting person you? You liked Amelia? But Amelia loved Magnus so much, she would never have sex with you willingly, so... you forced her?"
Lachlan froze, his expression darkening.
Sophia's words had struck at the hidden pain in his heart—Amelia didn't love him.
They had grown up together, but Amelia's heart had always belonged only to Magnus. She had never truly looked at him.
Was it because he was an illegitimate child?
Sophia didn't know what he was thinking. She turned her face to the other side, not wanting to deal with him anymore.
Soon, the car slowly came to a stop, and the door was pulled open. "Get out."
Sophia obediently got out of the car, letting them lead her inside.
