Chapter 46 My Husband is Benjamin
This was the man she had secretly loved for so many years.
Not only did he never notice her, but now he was making her apologize because of someone unimportant.
She sniffed, trying to push down the hurt in her heart, and softly said to Sophia, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have judged your abilities without really knowing you. I... I had no idea you were that good."
The more Hannah spoke, the more upset she felt, and tears started to fall.
Aurora raised an eyebrow, thinking that Hannah had finally met her match.
It wasn't the first time a newcomer had joined the lab, but if they were young and pretty, Hannah always had a way to drive them away.
Eventually, Alaric stopped hiring new people.
So, it was just the four of them holding down the fort.
Aurora had never seen Hannah get the short end of the stick before.
Today was a first.
Sophia looked at Hannah's tear-streaked face and found it kind of funny.
She was the one who had been wronged.
She was the one who almost became the target of the entire lab's ire.
She hadn't cried, so why was the instigator crying first?
"Enough." Alaric rubbed his temples and said quietly to Hannah, "Get back to work, Hannah. Stop making a fuss. You cry all the time, and even if you're not tired of it, I am."
"Alaric, I... I didn't mean to..." Hannah, feeling wronged, saw Alaric's displeased expression and quickly wiped away her tears.
Alaric shook his head in exasperation and led Sophia to his workspace. "If you need anything, just let me know. This lab may not be huge, but it's fully equipped with the best gear."
"Here's a sample of the toxin extracted from Benjamin's body, along with the analysis report..."
Sophia picked up the report, and her expression grew more serious as she read.
Seeing this, Alaric asked in a low voice, "What do you think? Can you make anything out of it?"
Sophia replied, "It's more complicated than I expected, but it's within my capabilities."
Sophia looked around, grabbed a pen and paper from the desk, and made a list. She handed it to Alaric, "Alaric, I need these materials."
Alaric took the list, glanced at it, and nodded seriously. "These items are common. I'll gather them right away."
With that, he turned and left.
Before leaving, Alaric gave Hannah a warning look and said quietly, "Sophia is here specifically to research my brother's virus sample. Please cooperate with her."
Steven, having witnessed Sophia's skills, had developed a respect for her and quickly nodded in agreement.
Aurora, diligently working on her experiment, also nodded. "Got it."
Only Hannah remained silent, looking aggrieved.
As soon as Alaric left, Steven put down his test tube and walked over to Sophia.
With a curious look, he asked, "Sophia, what's your relationship with Alaric? Are you two dating? How old are you? Are you even an adult? I've never seen Alaric be so gentle with any woman before!"
Sophia, writing formulas on the blackboard, chuckled at Steven's questions and answered truthfully, "He's my husband's brother."
"Husband?"
"You're married?" Steven almost let out a curse, but seeing the clarity in Sophia's eyes, he held it back.
Not only Steven, but even Aurora and Hannah looked shocked.
They all knew Alaric was the eldest son of the White Family.
Alaric had two younger brothers.
One was Benjamin, who oversaw the entire White Group, and the other was Cillian, a top-tier singer in the entertainment industry.
Given Benjamin's health issues, they instinctively assumed Sophia's husband was Cillian.
Steven almost swore out loud again, but he restrained himself.
He asked uncertainly, "Your husband is Cillian? Cillian got married? No way."
That would be explosive news!
With seventy million fans, Cillian was the heartthrob of countless young women.
He had a promising career in the entertainment industry. Why would he get married so young?
Sophia glanced at him and said, "No, my husband is Benjamin."
Hearing that, everyone was stunned.
The Benjamin who managed the entire White Group, who was frail but notoriously ruthless and cunning?
Steven looked at her with an unbelievable expression.
Aurora and Hannah were stunned, exchanging incredulous looks.
Sophia noticed their reactions and found it amusing.
Was Benjamin really that scary?
Why did everyone react with such fear and shock when they heard his name?
Benjamin was the most considerate and gentle man in the world!
Sophia snorted softly and continued her work.
Her movements were swift and practiced, as if she had done this countless times.
Steven hesitated before asking, "The Benjamin you're talking about is really Benjamin White, Alaric's brother, the head of the White Group?"
Sophia nodded, "Yes."
Steven stood there, stunned for a full half-minute, then gave Sophia a thumbs-up.
Seeing Steven's admiring expression, Sophia was puzzled.
But before she could ask more, Steven silently walked away.
Sophia scratched her head and resumed her analysis of the sample.
Sophia worked diligently until one o'clock in the afternoon.
The others in the lab were so engrossed in their work that they lost track of time.
Realizing it was already one o'clock, Aurora was the first to suggest, "Is anyone hungry? Let's go to the cafeteria for lunch."
Sophia, still verifying formulas, looked up and smiled, "Aurora, you all go ahead. I'll finish these calculations and join you later."
Aurora, seeing Sophia's serious attitude and lack of arrogance, grew more fond of her.
She smiled and urged, "Sophia, don't overwork yourself. The experiment is important, but your health is more important. If you exhaust yourself, Alaric will definitely blame us!"
Sophia smiled wryly and set her chalk aside, heading to the restroom to wash her hands.
Sophia joined the other three as they left the lab and headed to Stellar University's cafeteria.
The campus was filled with students around Sophia's age.
Aurora looked at the young, fresh faces and couldn't help but sigh, "Youth is wonderful."
