Chapter 434 Mr. Bryant's True Identity
When he saw Lachlan's back just now, his brain was triggered.
In those few short minutes, many images flashed through his mind.
He also remembered some details he had overlooked.
As for Valentin's identity, he thought he now had a guess.
"Are you really okay?" Sophia worriedly took his hand.
Benjamin shook his head.
Her worried heart immediately relaxed. As long as he was fine - she had been so scared just now!
Although Benjamin had headaches after every treatment, this time seemed different from before.
She couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Probably a woman's sixth sense.
Seeing that Benjamin was okay now, she couldn't help but breathe a long sigh of relief.
"Honey, did Clifton's treatment work this time?"
Benjamin rubbed his brow and nodded slightly.
"That's good, it means everything was worth it."
Sophia leaned back into his arms, her mood lifting.
Every time Clifton treated him, no one was allowed near.
So each time she could only wait outside anxiously - only she knew how worried she felt.
Fortunately, it was all worth it.
Now everything was moving in a good direction.
Benjamin lowered his head and kissed her forehead. Though brief, it was filled with endless affection and tenderness.
"Things will keep getting better for us."
Sophia smiled and lifted her head, returning a kiss.
"We were in the middle of dinner when Clifton came. You haven't eaten enough, right? Let me heat up the food."
With that, she stood up and walked toward the kitchen.
More than ten days ago, she knew nothing about cooking.
But after these past few days of practice, she had learned to use all the kitchen appliances.
Small tasks like heating food were completely manageable now.
Benjamin let go of her hand and didn't follow.
His mind was very confused right now. Although he had a guess, he still couldn't believe it.
The person Benjamin suspected was indeed close to him and fit all the conditions.
But Benjamin couldn't understand why.
Why would he do this?
Preston had treated him well, and Magnus had never done anything to wrong him.
And all these years he had been kind and gentle, never competing or fighting, never had a falling out with anyone.
As for the family fortune...
Everyone in the family had shares in the White Group - Preston had always been fair about this.
So why?
It seemed he needed to find a chance to go back to the White Manor and ask Preston properly.
He was lost in thought when Sophia's voice came from the kitchen.
"Honey, the food's heated up, come eat."
Benjamin snapped back to attention. He collected his thoughts and walked toward the dining room.
Sophia had already brought all the heated dishes to the table and set out fresh utensils.
Looking at the food laid out on the table, Benjamin felt warmth spreading through his heart.
He walked behind Sophia and hugged her tightly from behind.
"Whose capable wife is this? How can she be so good at everything?"
As he spoke, he lowered his head, resting his chin on Sophia's shoulder, his breath falling on her neck.
Sophia felt her neck tingling and couldn't help but shrink back.
She smiled and turned her head to look at him, proudly lifting her chin. "Yours, of course!"
"Then, give me a kiss." Benjamin chuckled softly and leaned in to kiss Sophia's lips.
Her lips were soft and tender, making him reluctant to let go.
Only when she gently pushed his chest did he reluctantly release her.
After the meal, Benjamin and Sophia returned to their room. They washed up briefly and lay down in bed.
But Benjamin couldn't fall asleep, his mind restless.
He slowly pulled his arm out from under Sophia's neck and got up carefully.
Benjamin was worried about waking Sophia, so he went straight to the study.
He sat by the floor-to-ceiling window for a long time, looking at the lights and night scenery outside, unable to calm his emotions.
He couldn't figure it out, and even wondered if he had seen wrong.
But no matter how much a person disguises themselves, some habits don't change.
Like the way they walk.
Lachlan's leg had been seriously injured over twenty years ago.
Although it had mostly healed, his walking posture never fully corrected.
When he stepped down, one foot was heavier, one lighter.
You couldn't tell anything was wrong without looking carefully.
He hadn't suspected anything at first, but he had watched that bar surveillance video at least a hundred times.
He had memorized that figure by heart.
When he saw Lachlan's back today, he felt strangely familiar.
At the last family dinner, when he saw Lachlan's back, his mind had wandered for a moment.
At first he thought it was just a coincidence, but now it seemed there had been signs all along.
So, was Lachlan... really Valentin?
Why would he do this?
Why would he use him to destroy the White family?
These mysteries hung over him like fog.
He couldn't make sense of it.
He sighed deeply, feeling he needed someone to talk to right now.
He took out his phone and opened his contacts.
Finally, his long fingers paused at M's number and pressed dial.
M was his lifesaver and his best business partner.
Most importantly, he didn't have too many business ties with the White family.
So even if he told him about this, it wouldn't matter much.
The phone was answered quickly.
A low, husky voice came through the receiver. "Hello?"
"It's me, Benjamin."
"It's so late - did something happen?"
M understood him well enough to sense something was wrong from his tone.
Benjamin leaned back in his chair and was silent for a long time.
M didn't interrupt, but waited quietly.
He believed Benjamin wouldn't call him for no reason.
After a long while, he finally heard Benjamin's voice: "M, if someone very close to you betrayed you, what would you do?"
M's heart jumped, suddenly filled with alarm.
He gripped the phone tighter, his throat moved, his voice tense.
"What's wrong? Did something happen to you?"
Right now his heart was both panicked and nervous, afraid his identity had been discovered.
Benjamin didn't answer his question, but continued asking.
"You haven't answered my question yet. If you were in this situation, what would you do?"
"If it's someone very close, maybe they have their reasons?"
M's heart was full of bitterness.
He had even prepared himself for Benjamin to expose his identity.
Actually, he had been hiding for so many years - it was time to go back.
It was just that he had never been willing to accept it, so he kept struggling on alone.
If Benjamin hated him, he would have nothing to say.
Benjamin suddenly laughed coldly: "Someone who wants to harm you and the people around you - what reasons could they have?"
M's heart tightened sharply. "This person you're talking about - are they important to you?"
