Chapter 397 Kabedon
Sophia felt confused and had no idea what Isabella was thinking.
But at least she had left, and the air around them seemed much fresher now.
She turned her head toward Benjamin and raised an eyebrow. "Mr. White, aren't you going to explain?"
Benjamin was caught off guard by her question, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. "Explain what?"
"How come she was here? Why did she come looking for you?"
"You'd have to ask her. I was just sitting here waiting for you, and she suddenly came over to find me and even tried to hug me."
Sophia frowned. "Based on what I know about her, she never does anything without preparation. Coming to find you today out of the blue, she must have had some other purpose."
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly leaned close to Benjamin and sniffed around him.
Her sudden approach brought a faint, delicate fragrance to his nose, and Benjamin's spine suddenly went rigid.
His sexy Adam's apple bobbed as he asked, "What are you doing?"
"Checking if you have any strange smell on you. Celestia told me that Isabella went to see her a few days ago and gave her two bottles of medicine."
She was worried Isabella might have drugged Benjamin.
After all, Isabella now had close ties with people from the GeneCipher Society. If they wanted to go after Benjamin, they'd be impossible to guard against.
A flash of coldness passed through Benjamin's eyes. "Celestia was going to drug you?"
Sophia suddenly smiled and looked up at him meaningfully. "Not just me."
"Don't tell me she wanted to drug me too?"
"You wish. It was for Matthew. Isabella promised her that as long as she drugged me, she would definitely make Celestia's wish come true afterward."
Celestia's feelings for Matthew were no longer a secret.
She just hadn't expected Isabella to come up with such a dirty trick.
Drugging people was, in her view, the stupidest method.
But fortunately, Celestia hadn't reached that level of madness and had told her about it.
Benjamin leaned against the corridor wall, looking down at Sophia in his arms, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes.
She was busy talking and probably hadn't noticed at all how intimate their current position was.
He thought back carefully—this position seemed like something he had done to Sophia before.
But... being pinned against the wall by Sophia was a first.
His heart skipped a beat uncontrollably, and Benjamin's mind gradually drifted elsewhere, not paying attention to what Sophia was saying.
Until his ear was suddenly pinched by a soft hand.
"Are you even listening to me?" Sophia glared at him angrily.
She was worried about his safety, but he was distracted!
"I'm listening. I suddenly remembered something—I need to go find Chase. I'll call Matthew and have him send someone to pick you up."
Benjamin's expression turned serious. After giving Sophia a few instructions, he hurried off.
Watching his retreating figure, Sophia called out with concern, "Be careful."
Benjamin didn't look back and left the hospital on his own.
Once outside the hospital entrance, he immediately called Chase and told him to come right away.
When Chase received Benjamin's call, he was in the middle of a meeting.
After getting the message, he briefly told Alaric and rushed to the hospital.
The car slowly stopped in front of Benjamin, and Chase rolled down the driver's side window. "Mr. White, get in."
Benjamin opened the back door. His head was throbbing with pain. He frowned, leaned back against the seat, his face so dark it looked like ink could drip from it.
Ever since Isabella left, his head had started hurting in waves. It was probably the aftereffects of the treatment acting up again.
He didn't dare let Sophia notice, afraid she would worry, so he temporarily made up an excuse to leave early.
Chase looked at Benjamin through the rearview mirror. Seeing him constantly rubbing his temples, he asked with concern, "Mr. White, is your head hurting again?"
Actually, after receiving treatment, Benjamin's head would hurt from time to time.
Sometimes the pain was mild and could almost be ignored.
But sometimes it was unbearable, as if an invisible hand was gripping his brain nerves and tearing at them violently.
His head was buzzing. Benjamin gritted his teeth, trying to endure it.
The veins at his temples bulged from suppressing the pain.
Getting no response, Chase turned around worriedly. "Mr. White, why don't you tell Mrs. White about this? Maybe Mrs. White has a way to help with the pain."
"Shut up," Benjamin rebuked in a low voice.
He had called Chase over precisely because he didn't want Sophia to know how much pain he was in.
She cried so easily—if she saw him like this, she would definitely feel terrible.
Chase was at a loss, when he suddenly remembered something and hurriedly rummaged through the toolbox.
Soon, he pulled out a medicine bottle.
"Oh right, Mr. White, I went to the Lumina Group yesterday, and Mr. Moore asked me to give this to you."
Benjamin opened his eyes and glanced at it casually. "What is this?"
Because he was enduring the pain, he spoke through gritted teeth, and a thin layer of sweat quickly formed on his forehead.
"It's pain medication that Mrs. White developed. Two years ago, Mrs. White adjusted the formula. This version is more effective and has no side effects."
"Mr. White, try it first."
Chase took out a pill from the bottle and handed it to Benjamin.
Without thinking, Benjamin put it directly in his mouth.
Whether it was the effect of the medicine or not, he soon felt the pain lessen.
Watching color gradually return to his face, Chase finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness, thank goodness...
It seemed Preston was right—Sophia really was Benjamin's lucky star.
After about a few minutes, Benjamin's breathing gradually steadied, and his mind regained some clarity.
He instructed Chase, "Have you found anything about Elijah's whereabouts that I asked you to investigate?"
"Not yet. Our people plus Wilford's people have practically turned Celestria upside down and found nothing."
It had to be said, Elijah was truly cunning.
He had screwed Benjamin over like this and still wouldn't let him go.
He even wanted to use him to hurt Sophia.
Elijah was truly ambitious and ruthless!
"Keep looking. Investigate the best hiding places in Celestria. I don't believe it... how can a living person just disappear into thin air?"
"Places to hide people... either private islands or slums?"
They had already checked almost all the private islands and found nothing.
But the slums... would someone like Elijah really go there?
"Haven't you found Elijah's family either?"
Elijah had stayed in Novaria for so many years and had been undercover in the White family all along. He had long since formed a family in name.
His wife had died over twenty years ago, and his son's whereabouts were unknown.
Only two grandsons remained.
According to their investigation, those two children were indeed his biological grandsons.
If they could find them, it might be an important breakthrough.
"I've investigated. Before Elijah left, he deleted all the data related to them from the database, probably to protect them."
The strangest thing was, they had secretly questioned Elijah's neighbors.
None of them had ever seen what Elijah's two grandsons looked like.
It was clear that Elijah doted on them and cared about them deeply.
