Chapter 356 She Won't Let Me Accompany
When Isabella was taken away, tears kept streaming down uncontrollably, and her heart was filled with utter despair.
She even started to envy Sophia. Sophia was always so lucky, never having to endure so much pain.
When Sophia got lost, she met Robert, such a miracle doctor, and Matthew and Joshua, such amazing senior brothers.
When Sophia was used as a bargaining chip, she met Benjamin, such a handsome, wealthy man with a noble status.
......
Far away in Silverlight City, Sophia's nose tickled and she couldn't help but sneeze.
Finnley leaned over worriedly and felt her forehead with his hand. "Are you catching a cold?"
The back of Finnley's hand felt slightly cool against her forehead, which was quite comfortable.
Sophia shook her head, not bothering to fix the bangs that got messed up. "I'm fine. Someone's probably talking behind my back."
She was perfectly healthy.
Finnley still wasn't reassured. He found a thermometer from the medicine box and handed it to her. "Take your temperature first."
"I'm a doctor. I know whether I'm sick or not." Sophia was busy writing her paper and didn't expect Finnley to keep pestering her and interrupting.
Francis had specifically told her to finish the paper as soon as possible, otherwise if she missed the submission deadline, she'd have to wait for the next opportunity.
If it went through smoothly, her paper would be published in the most renowned international medical journal.
Although she didn't really care about these things - on the contrary, she preferred hands-on practice.
But those old professors at the medical school treated this as an extremely high honor and strongly insisted she must participate.
Sophia had no choice but to try writing it.
Finnley sat beside her and prompted her to open her mouth. "Doctors can't treat themselves. Besides, I specifically looked up information about this. I heard that girls have weaker immunity during their period, so don't take it lightly."
Sophia's fingers paused slightly on the keyboard, her eyes filling with amusement. "Honey, I didn't know you had such a caring side."
If his former employees saw this, their jaws would probably drop again.
Finnley ignored her teasing and used his slender fingers to pinch her chattering little mouth. "Stop talking first. Taking your temperature will be quick."
Sophia's rosy lips pouted slightly, looking inexplicably cute.
Finnley's lips curved slightly. When the time was up, he withdrew his hand.
Seeing the temperature displayed on the thermometer, Finnley breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, no fever."
He couldn't remember if he had experienced this kind of situation before.
But right now, just thinking about how Sophia was sitting here while her body was bleeding non-stop, he couldn't help but worry.
Sometimes he even worried excessively.
He didn't feel anything before, but now he felt that losing his memory was really troublesome - he had to learn everything all over again.
If it were him from two years ago, he would definitely handle this with ease.
He silently sighed in his heart and forcibly suppressed his frustration.
Sophia didn't notice the change in his mood. She raised her chin with an "I told you so" expression. "I already said so, but you didn't believe me."
After speaking, she continued typing away.
Finnley felt helpless. He stopped bothering her, got up and went to the sofa, opened his laptop and started his own work.
M received his message and couldn't help teasing: "The sun must be rising from the west today - not keeping your wife company anymore?"
"She won't let me keep her company." Finnley typed this sentence and sent it, feeling extremely wronged.
M, far away in Celestria, couldn't help but laugh out loud, then finally let out a deep sigh, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window looking outside.
His expression was weary, lost in thought about something.
Soon, his phone vibrated again. Finnley had sent another message: "Any movements from GeneCipher Society lately?"
"They met with two people this morning. Our people tried to follow but lost them."
Finnley was silent for a while, then asked: "Do you know who they met?"
M: "But they were taken away. I'm still having people investigate. Currently we only know they're from Novaria."
Finnley: "Keep having people watch them, but remember to stay safe yourself."
Whether as Benjamin or in his memories, the word "father" was very unfamiliar to him, but he had felt fatherly love from this person whose real name he didn't even know.
So for the past two years, he had always trusted M.
For someone who had always been on the edge of a cliff, who could fall into an abyss at any moment, even just a little bit of warmth was enough to make him cling to it, wanting to hold on tightly.
M was like this, and so was Sophia...
M lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on that last sentence, his eyes slightly moistening.
After a long while, he slowly sent back a "okay."
The next morning, Finnley was woken by an alarm clock.
He rubbed his somewhat heavy head and slowly opened his eyes, still showing traces of sleepiness.
Beside him, Sophia had gotten up unusually early. Even though she was still too sleepy to open her eyes, she still insisted on climbing out of bed.
"Why are you up so early? It's not even light outside yet." Finnley asked in a hoarse voice.
Sophia yawned while shuffling over to the bed in her slippers, grabbing his arm. "Get up quick. Did you forget today is the day Clifton Farley returns to the country?"
"Clifton?" Finnley's mind went blank for a moment, unable to remember who this person was.
He stretched out his long arm and pulled Sophia back into his embrace, holding her tightly, burying his face deep into her shoulder and nuzzling. "Whoever he is, let's sleep a bit more."
To track GeneCipher Society's movements, M had returned all the work to him.
Last night he had worked through the night to handle most of the work, only going to sleep about half an hour ago.
Sophia was about the same, spending the whole night looking up information, only sleeping near dawn.
Now she was equally too sleepy to keep her eyes open, but still struggled: "Need to pick up Clifton... treat your condition... can't sleep..."
But there was a huge difference in strength between men and women, and she was really too tired. Before she could finish speaking, she also fell asleep.
Alaric got up early in the morning to wash up. After getting ready and coming downstairs, he found that Benjamin and Sophia hadn't come out yet.
He sat on the sofa for quite a while without seeing anyone come out, and couldn't help frowning.
"Finn, go check if Benjamin and Sophia are awake yet."
"Okay, I'll go right away." Finn had just come in from trimming branches in the garden and immediately went upstairs.
After a while, he came down quietly from upstairs. "Mr. Alaric White, Mr. Benjamin White and Mrs. White should still be sleeping."
Alaric: "......"
What happened to getting up early?
One after another, they're all becoming more and more unreliable.
Alaric shook his head helplessly. He raised his wrist to check the time and found that Clifton's flight was about to arrive. He couldn't worry about anything else, grabbed his keys and headed out.
Finn followed behind him asking: "Mr. Alaric White, should I still wake them?"
"No need, let them sleep a bit more."
