Chapter 349 My Legs Are Numb, Carry Me!
Sophia lowered her eyes, staring intently at the three cards.
"I think I know who sent them."
Since Benjamin's accident, she hadn't celebrated her birthday anymore, but she still received three gifts every year.
Each time with just a brief message: "Happy Birthday."
The gifts were always thoughtful too.
"Is it... from the Brown family?" Finnley looked at the handmade night light in Sophia's hands and guessed.
Three gifts—Sophia's social circle was simple, so it wasn't hard to figure out.
But he remembered that Sawyer, Heath, and Flynn hadn't appeared at the party. It seemed the White family hadn't invited them at all.
Sophia let out a bitter laugh and looked up at Finnley: "Do you think I'm heartless? Not even inviting my own brothers to my birthday?"
Actually, thinking about it carefully, they hadn't really hurt her directly. If anyone was to blame, it was Hayden and Olivia for losing her.
By the time she returned to the Brown family, there was no longer a place for her in their hearts.
But once some things go bad, they can never go back to how they were.
Back when she returned to Brown Villa, Sawyer, Heath, and Flynn had already made their choice between her and Isabella.
From that moment on, they were no longer her family.
Even if they met again, as long as they didn't start trouble, she wouldn't chase after them hoping for anything.
Finnley hugged Sophia, his warm palm gently stroking her soft black hair. "You did the right thing. They gave up on you first."
Thinking about all the grievances Sophia had suffered before, his heart ached with a dense, spreading pain.
His Sophia was beautiful, well-behaved, and sensible. Those people were blind, mistaking a pearl for a fish eye.
"You really think I did the right thing?" Sophia looked up at him in surprise, her eyes slightly moist.
"Yes, you don't need to pay attention to them. This is the consequence they deserve."
After a while, Sophia's emotions gradually calmed down, and she pulled away from Finnley's embrace.
"Pack up these gifts and put them on the shelf." No matter how much she liked them, she wouldn't use them.
"Okay." Finnley came over to help, placing the three gifts in a corner.
By the time they finished unwrapping all the gifts, it was already past eleven at night.
Sophia stood up from the floor, and her legs suddenly went weak, almost causing her to fall.
Finnley's attention had been on her the whole time. He quickly caught her. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I've been squatting on the floor too long. My legs are numb." Sophia's cheeks flushed slightly as she made a fist and tapped her legs.
Finnley couldn't help but laugh. "I told you earlier to get something to sit on, but you wouldn't listen."
"I thought we'd finish quickly and didn't want to go through the trouble!"
Sophia pouted and opened her arms toward Finnley. "Carry me."
Finnley bent down, one arm around Sophia's shoulders, the other under her knees, and lifted her up horizontally.
When they got back to the bedroom, he suddenly remembered he had forgotten to reply to M's message.
He placed Sophia on the bed, then went back to the sofa and opened his phone to check. He found several missed calls.
All from M.
M had a calm personality. If he wasn't dealing with something tricky, he probably wouldn't be calling so urgently.
With this thought, Finnley's expression grew serious, and he called back.
The other end answered quickly. M's deep, rich voice carried a hint of concern. "Finnley, did something happen to you? Why are you only answering now?"
This was the first time Finnley had heard worried words from M's mouth. He found it both amusing and warming.
"Nothing happened. I was helping my wife unwrap birthday gifts."
Finnley's low and calm tone carried a hint of showing off, as if afraid others wouldn't know he was married.
Hearing this, Sophia looked up at him and smiled helplessly.
The other end fell into an odd silence, followed by a bout of coughing.
"Wife? You're married? Who is she?"
Finnley glanced at Sophia, who was leaning against the headboard casually scrolling through her phone, and his lips curved slightly. "Yes, I've been married for a while now."
"Finnley, marriage is something you should be careful about, or there will be big trouble later." M's tone was full of concern.
Finnley leaned back on the sofa, his slender, pale fingers tapping lightly on the sofa back, in a pleasant mood.
Hearing this, he raised an eyebrow slightly. "What trouble could there be? I think everything is wonderful right now."
M fell silent again.
"Are you in Silverlight City now? I'll come find you right away."
Finnley heard the seriousness and gravity in his tone and asked curiously, "What's wrong? You don't seem very happy about me getting married?"
M had not only saved his life but was also his business partner. Over the past two years, one managed the company while the other handled operations, and they worked together seamlessly.
As far as Finnley knew, M wasn't someone who meddled in others' affairs. He had never actively asked about his personal matters before, but today was very unusual.
Far away in Celestria, M stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of a top hotel suite, his expression dark and unclear.
The transparent glass reflected his face wearing half a mask, looking somewhat eerie.
He moved his lips, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Finnley knew his personality and didn't press further. Instead, he explained, "You were right. GeneCipher Society does have problems. They tampered with my memory, and now I've returned to my real home."
He paused, and a meaningful smile spread across his lips. "You knew about this already, didn't you?"
Otherwise, M wouldn't have been so surprised when he heard about the marriage.
M's grip on the phone tightened, and he acknowledged it.
He had indeed known for a long time, from the first moment he met Finnley, or even earlier.
"So what are you planning to do now?" M asked.
Finnley glanced at Sophia again, his lips curving slightly. "Let everything return to normal."
If he had still had doubts at first, now he was one hundred percent certain: he was Benjamin.
He liked his current life. He didn't need to fight with people for a bite to eat, didn't need to go through gunfire for missions.
And he didn't need to become a research subject for others.
His current life was peaceful and beautiful, something he wouldn't have dared to dream of before.
M sighed. "Since you've already decided, I'll handle the overseas business in the next few days and prepare to return home."
"Okay."
Most of the business Finnley and M operated was overseas, and almost all of it was under M's name.
Because everyone in GeneCipher Society was not allowed to have private property. If discovered by GeneCipher Society, the consequences would be severe.
But he had never been someone who liked following orders.
A year and a half ago, when those self-proclaimed medical experts confirmed they couldn't extract any useful elements from his blood, he made up his mind to leave GeneCipher Society.
After that, he met M. The two reached an agreement and began secretly establishing a company.
