Chapter 286 Kissing the Adam's Apple

Chapter 288 Some Boundaries Cannot Be Crossed

Back then, he kept getting rejected by Sophia and felt he'd lost face, so he hid in his room and refused to come out.

It had nothing to do with Sophia.

But what he never expected was that Juno, whom he respected most, had gone to see Sophia without his knowledge and tried to humiliate her with money.

How could she humiliate the girl he liked like that?

Caspian felt his heart was about to collapse. He looked at Sophia in panic, afraid she would misunderstand him.

But to his disappointment, Sophia's expression remained calm and peaceful, as if she didn't care about this matter at all.

Benjamin reached out his long arm and pulled Sophia tightly into his embrace, his cold, sharp gaze falling on Caspian, claiming his territory.

"The line of people pursuing my wife could stretch from here to the airport. Caspian is just one of them. What you treasure means nothing to others. Besides, my wife has no obligation to treat Ernest. If you're ungrateful and want to slander my wife, then don't blame me for being rude."

He took Sophia's hand and strode out of the hospital room.

Looking at Benjamin's broad and upright back, Sophia couldn't help but feel a warmth rising in her chest.

She quickened her pace, held onto Benjamin's arm, and smiled slightly. "Are we really leaving like this?"

"Yes."

"They're all our elders in there. With the power of the Smith family and the Armstrong family, I'm afraid we can't afford to offend them."

Benjamin paused, gripping her thin, delicate shoulders with both hands. A bloodthirsty coldness flashed in his eyes.

"As long as Maddox is around, the Smith family won't let Juno call the shots. As for the Armstrong family... although the Armstrong Group's business empire can't be shaken in the short term, it's been on a downward trend in recent years."

Taking down the Armstrong Group might take some time, but it wasn't impossible.

Benjamin's tone was arrogant and bold, making people want to believe him. Since he could say such things, it proved he was confident enough to do it.

It also proved that he was willing to risk everything for Sophia, even betting the entire White Group.

A warm current flowed through Sophia's heart. She hugged his arm and gently rubbed her cheek against it.

"Sophia."

Suddenly, hurried footsteps came from behind. Sophia slowly turned around and looked at the person. "Elodie?"

Elodie stopped in front of them, out of breath, with a flash of guilt in her eyes. "I'm sorry, my mother just has that bad temper. She didn't mean any harm."

"Ms. Belle, I think you're confused about what a bad temper is. I don't care how many families back her up - that's no reason to slander and humiliate my wife."

Benjamin's eyes narrowed slightly, his thin lips curving into a mocking smile. The powerful aura he radiated made people's hearts tremble.

Elodie was startled by his cold presence, her heart skipping a beat. She instinctively tried to explain, "No, that's not it, my mother she..."

"Elodie, your mother is my elder, so I shouldn't say certain things, but some boundaries can't be crossed. Please tell her that treating Ernest will have to wait. I have other things to do." Sophia said with a serious face, pulling Benjamin's hand to leave.

Who doesn't have a temper?

Juno had said she didn't trust her medical skills and thought she had ulterior motives for doing all this, so why should she do this thankless job?

Seeing them about to leave, Elodie panicked and quickly ran ahead to block them.

"I'm sorry, I apologize on behalf of my mother. She really didn't mean it. Sophia, please forgive her." Elodie's eyes were earnest and sincere. She was truly scared.

The Armstrong family had hired many doctors before, but none of them could cure Ernest's illness.

Only Sophia - whether it was the treatment or the medicine, everything was effective.

She had only one thought now: to keep Sophia here, or Ernest would truly be beyond help.

Ernest was the Armstrong family's lifeline. They couldn't let Juno's impulsiveness create an irreversible situation.

For the first time, Sophia seriously examined the person in front of her. In her impression, Elodie had always been a spoiled and proud rich girl.

No matter when or who she faced, she always had that proud and bold attitude.

She had never seen her bow her head to anyone. This was the first time.

Sophia wasn't someone with a cold heart after all. Besides, Ernest's poisoning was somewhat related to her, so she couldn't just ignore it.

She looked up at Benjamin.

Benjamin lowered his eyes to meet her gaze, his warm palm gently stroking her hair. "Do whatever you want to do."

He unconditionally supported and respected Sophia's choice.

Sophia smiled softly. No matter when, he could always understand what she was thinking right away.

But she didn't immediately agree to Elodie. Instead, she said quietly, "I can agree to continue treating Ernest, but I hope your mother won't interfere with me anymore. That's my only requirement."

"Okay, I promise!" Elodie agreed without hesitation.

Sophia's request wasn't excessive - it could even be called reasonable.

She sighed quietly to herself. Many people said she had a bad temper and was spoiled and willful, but only she knew that compared to her, Juno was even worse.

Juno was used to being domineering and had never been looked down upon by anyone in her life.

Especially not by someone like Sophia, a young junior. She must feel uncomfortable, but to say she had malicious intent - that definitely wasn't the case.

In the hospital room, Maddox's face darkened, looking quite displeased.

"Juno, are you satisfied now? She's my only granddaughter, and you tried to humiliate her with a check?"

Juno's face flushed red, feeling extremely wronged. "Dad, she was the one humiliating me with the check!"

Juno had never felt so frustrated in her life.

Who would have thought that Sophia wasn't some poor woman who couldn't make it, but Maddox's own granddaughter?

Maddox understood Juno's personality best. Right now he was quite angry and didn't want to deal with her. Instead, he turned to look at Caspian standing nearby.

"Caspian, tell me, what exactly happened before? What's going on between you and Sophia?"

Caspian's eyes flickered. He pressed his lips together, his cheeks flushing with an unnatural redness. "Maddox, I pursued Sophia before, but she didn't accept."

A young man in the first flush of love, meeting the girl he liked, wanted nothing more than to pour out all his affection.

But he got no response from Sophia at all.

He actually wished Sophia would seduce him, but she wouldn't even spare him an extra glance.
