Chapter 267 Even If Married, Divorce Is Possible, I Don't Mind
Sophia and Elodie left together. She sent Benjamin a message telling him he didn't need to pick her up that evening.
Once in the car, Elodie started gossiping, "Sophia, are you really married?"
"Yes." Sophia leaned back in the rear seat with her eyes half-closed.
"So all those rumors online are true? You were really sold by your own parents to be someone's wife?" The speaker was one of Elodie's friends, Celeste Phillips.
If Sophia had some impression of Elodie, she had no memory at all of Celeste and Daphne Morgan.
But Daphne and Celeste acted overly familiar, constantly asking questions in her ear.
Finally, Sophia got a bit impatient and gave them a cold look, "If you're so curious about other people's business, why don't you become gossip reporters?"
Daphne and Celeste shrank back, scared by Sophia's icy stare, and didn't dare speak anymore.
The car finally became quiet. Elodie sat in the passenger seat and secretly glared at Daphne and Celeste.
They were completely useless!
Soon, they arrived at the private room Elodie had mentioned.
After Sophia went in, she glanced around - all strangers.
Some faces looked familiar, but she couldn't remember their names.
But they greeted Sophia enthusiastically, so she had to smile back politely.
Most people there came from wealthy and powerful families in Harmony City, so they were quite relaxed, joking and laughing together.
Sophia had been their school beauty back then, so soon everyone turned their attention to her.
"Sophia, I heard you got married? Is it true?"
"Yes."
"Is your husband really Benjamin?"
"Yes."
"How did you two meet? I heard you're the Brown family's daughter, and in the end your biological parents sold you..."
Before the sentence was finished, there was suddenly a sound of breaking glass in the room.
Everyone looked toward the sound and saw Elodie staring at them with a dark expression, her wine glass shattered on the floor.
"Are you done yet? Change the subject!"
Sophia raised an eyebrow, not understanding why Elodie had such a strong reaction.
The room fell silent for about half a minute, with everyone looking at Elodie in surprise.
Then someone stepped forward to ease the atmosphere, "Everyone drink, drink..."
Everyone there knew Elodie's background, so no one dared to provoke her.
Elodie's father was Xander, the head of the Smith family in Harmony City.
Her uncle was Tyrell, an internationally renowned fashion magazine photographer.
Her mother was the daughter of the Armstrong family, the second most powerful family in Harmony City.
With Elodie's status, you couldn't find a second person like her in all of Harmony City.
So whenever they went out, everyone was careful not to make Elodie angry.
Today, they didn't know which words set her off so badly.
But soon, the atmosphere in the room heated up again, and someone put a glass of wine in Sophia's hand.
The person who handed her the glass was a man, about twenty-three or twenty-four years old, with a carefree personality, but with dark circles under his eyes - clearly from staying up late often.
Sophia couldn't help but remind him, "Drink less, it damages your liver. You've been having insomnia lately, haven't slept well for several days? I suggest you go to the hospital for a full check-up."
At these words, everyone fell silent again, looking at Sophia with shocked expressions.
"She's so accurate! Caspian Armstrong's family has had some problems recently, and he's been drinking heavily." A man sitting next to him, about the same age, suddenly spoke up.
Everyone's eyes turned to them.
They had all heard about the Armstrong family's situation.
About three months ago, the Armstrong family's younger son went missing, and wasn't found until half a month ago, but by then he was barely alive.
The Armstrong family had blocked the news, and only they knew exactly what condition the child was in now.
At the mention of this, Elodie's expression also darkened.
Caspian's father was Elodie's mother Juno Armstrong's brother, so Caspian and Elodie were cousins.
And that child who was barely alive was Caspian's younger brother Ernest Armstrong, only three years old this year.
Ernest had been weak since birth and had been carefully looked after all these years.
Unexpectedly, three months ago, when the nanny took Ernest to play in the park, he disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Half a month ago, the police found him in a trash can in a residential building.
According to the police, it seemed to be related to an illegal organization from over ten years ago, but they were still investigating.
She had organized this bar gathering and specifically invited Caspian, hoping that with more people around, it would be lively and keep him from drinking alone and overthinking.
There was another reason...
Elodie secretly glanced at Sophia, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Half a month ago, Elodie had learned that Sophia was her cousin. Xander said Sophia would soon come to the Smith Villa to see Maddox, and he specifically told her not to bully Sophia.
Was she really that petty?
Really!
Sophia roughly understood what had happened.
So Elodie was Xander's daughter, and the child Francis mentioned was the Armstrong family's younger son.
Even she had to admit that all of this was too much of a coincidence.
She looked at Caspian. The young man who had been laughing carelessly just moments ago now had his head down, hands covering his face, his whole body radiating exhaustion and despair.
It was as if all his earlier laughter had been fake.
She sighed silently to herself, then slowly stood up, "Let's go."
Everyone looked up at her in confusion. Elodie asked puzzled, "Where to?"
Sophia raised an eyebrow and walked toward the door, "The hospital. You guys follow me."
Elodie and Caspian exchanged glances, confused, but eventually followed.
Celeste and Daphne also wanted to come along, but Elodie stopped them.
Harmony City was the Smith family's territory - Sophia wouldn't dare do anything to them.
"Elodie, is she going to take me for a check-up?" Although Caspian was in his twenties and past the age of first love, his cheeks still turned red uncontrollably.
He scratched his head and muttered to himself, "That's so embarrassing. Elodie, do you think she cares about me? Does she have feelings for me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Caspian got a hard slap on the back of his head, "She's a married woman!"
Caspian, with his haggard face and stubble, said something particularly childish, "Married people can get divorced. I don't mind!"
After saying this, he even started giggling to himself.
The sadness Ernest's serious illness had brought him seemed to fade a bit.
"What are you thinking? She's my cousin, which means you should call her your younger sister too. Close relatives can't marry - give up on that idea!" Elodie looked at Caspian with disgust and couldn't help but put her hand to her forehead.
Caspian was really spoiled. How could he be so immature?
