Chapter 259 New Wedding Gift
Matthew leaned over and found that in less than half a minute, she had pulled up the company's security footage.
"..."
Sophia, could she give him some face?
After all, the Lumina Group was a pretty powerful company in the country, and she just hacked into the company's internal network like that?
Sophia looked up at Matthew and explained, "Checking the surveillance footage is too much trouble. Matthew, you don't mind, do you?"
Matthew said through gritted teeth, "Of course not."
Sophia blinked her clear eyes at him, her thick eyelashes fluttering like they could flutter right into someone's heart.
Who could say no to that face?
Sophia stared at the screen, her fingertips on the keyboard, constantly fast-forwarding.
Joshua also came over curiously, looking at the countless small boxes on the computer screen, suddenly feeling a bit of a headache. "Can you even see clearly? The laptop screen is too small."
As soon as he finished speaking, Sophia suddenly hit pause and enlarged the image in the upper right corner.
Alaric glanced at it casually, then froze for two seconds before reacting. He explained in a low voice, "Our lab also has a partnership with the Lumina Group. I knew these three people were coming here."
"Big brother, do you remember when my research sample was tampered with before?"
With Sophia's reminder, Alaric's heart suddenly tightened. "You suspect that incident is connected to today's?"
"It's just a guess for now, since we don't have any concrete evidence."
She had always been careful with her experimental samples, always making small marks on them that weren't easy to notice, marks that only she knew about.
Joshua frowned and asked, "If someone really got that sample, why would they still attack this lab?"
Everyone turned their eyes to Sophia, waiting for her answer.
Matthew glanced at Joshua. "Did you forget that when Sophia does lab reports, she makes two copies—one complete and accurate, and one with the order mixed up, with content only she can understand?"
If they came back for more, it meant the copy they got was fake.
That way, everything made sense.
"But they're all my most trusted partners. I can't bring myself to suspect them." Alaric sat in a chair nearby, his brow furrowed.
Ever since he returned from studying abroad, they had been doing research together. They all knew each other inside and out.
He didn't dare think that someone would betray him.
Sophia pressed her lips together and fell silent.
She knew that if her guess was right, it would be a cruel blow to Alaric.
"Instead of passively waiting for them to make a move, why not take the initiative?" Benjamin came in from outside, sat beside Sophia, and let her lean against him.
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said. What do you think would happen if Sophia and I left this lab?"
"No way!" Everyone except Benjamin refused this proposal in unison.
Especially Matthew and Joshua—they practically wanted to glare holes through Benjamin!
Just when their impression of him had improved a bit, he wanted to put Sophia in danger.
"I don't agree. I absolutely don't agree. Sophia is too weak right now. We don't know who these people are, how much power they have, or what their purpose is."
Benjamin sighed. "Can you let me finish? I'm guessing those people don't even know Sophia was poisoned too. So their target should be me."
How could he bear to put Sophia in danger?
Soon, everyone had worked out a plan.
The other side quickly received the news.
Poter excitedly called his employer. "Benjamin came out!"
The man hung up and received a message on his phone—a picture captured from surveillance footage.
Benjamin, looking pale, was being helped out of the Lumina Group by Sophia.
The surveillance for that entire floor of the lab had been encrypted, so he hadn't been able to find out anything about Benjamin and Sophia's movements these past few days.
Now, they had finally come out.
Sophia's fair face wore a smile, Alaric's expression was relaxed, and even the usually cold Benjamin had a slight smile.
Soon, his insider at the Lumina Group suddenly sent him a message.
It was an audio recording with Alaric's voice.
"Sophia, thank you so much. From now on, Benjamin can finally live like a normal person."
Alaric's tone was sincere and earnest, so the man didn't doubt the recording's authenticity.
The poison was cured that quickly?
It seemed he had underestimated Sophia.
...
Downstairs at the Lumina Group, Sophia got in the car and asked quietly, "Will this really draw them out?"
Benjamin shook his head, but his tone was casual. "If they've been hiding around me for so long, how would they expose themselves easily? Unless they can't wait anymore."
He'd been investigating people around him for the past few months, and no matter how far he got, the leads would suddenly break off.
So he guessed the power behind them wasn't to be underestimated.
"But we're going to Harmony City in a few days. Won't Grandpa be in danger if he stays here?" Sophia worried they would target the White family and the Lumina Group.
Benjamin put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his embrace. "Don't think so much. I'll handle everything."
He wouldn't let anyone hurt her.
Sophia rested at home for two days, then packed her luggage and booked tickets to Harmony City.
Before leaving, Joshua suddenly called her over mysteriously and handed her a USB drive.
"What's this?" Sophia looked up at him in confusion.
Joshua looked around to make sure no one was there, then leaned close to Sophia's ear and whispered, "Sophia, consider this my wedding gift to you. Remember to watch it when no one's around. This is all I can do to help."
Sophia had grown up without parents, so there were definitely some things no one had taught her.
Matthew stayed away from women, so this important task could only fall to him.
Sophia held the USB drive, looking puzzled.
But before she could ask anything else, Joshua had already walked away.
He looked like he was hiding his achievements and fame.
She smiled helplessly and casually put the USB drive in her suitcase.
Before leaving, she specially reinforced the lab's security system—if anyone broke in, she would receive an alert.
She also specifically told Matthew to relax the security on the top floor. If someone broke in, they could catch them like fish in a barrel.
The Smith Villa in Harmony City.
Olivia stood at the front door for a long time, hesitating, not daring to go in.
After twenty years, standing at the door of the Smith Villa again, she suddenly felt like she was in another lifetime.
"Who are you looking for?" A servant came out from inside, looking at Olivia in confusion.
This question was like an incredibly sharp knife, stabbing hard into Olivia's heart.
The servant in front of her was about thirty-something, an unfamiliar face. She had been gone for over twenty years, and the servants at home no longer recognized her.
