Chapter 145 The White Family Members, Each Crazier Than the Last

Chapter 146 Is It Worth It

Amelia supported Magnolia and patted her shoulder worriedly, asking, "Magnolia, are you okay?"

Magnolia's legs went weak. The moment she was saved, she just felt incredibly lucky.

She had no strength left at all and could only lean most of her body weight against Amelia.

Hearing Amelia's question, she glanced at Alaric in terror, then quickly looked away. "I'm fine. Let me walk you back to your room first."

"Are you really okay? Do you need me to call the family doctor for you?" Amelia was worried. Magnolia looked terrible, completely pale, and didn't seem fine at all.

"No need."

Magnolia shook off Amelia's arm and walked toward her own room, her steps hurried and panicked, as if fleeing in defeat.

"Magnolia, wait for me." Amelia quickly caught up.

Watching them leave, Alaric slowly closed his eyes.

No one noticed that his hand hanging at his side was still trembling slightly.

He hadn't fought with anyone in a long time, so he was inevitably a bit rusty. Just now, when his emotions took over, there was a moment when he really wanted to kill Magnolia.

But getting his hands dirty for someone like that wasn't worth it.

Three days later.

Benjamin finally woke up.

Worried that something might happen to Benjamin, Alaric had pushed aside all his work and stayed by the bedside without leaving for a moment.

Benjamin slowly opened his eyes. His head, which had been foggy for so long, finally gradually cleared. His body felt lighter than ever before, like he had been reborn.

He took a deep breath and struggled to sit up in bed.

Perhaps because he had been lying in bed for too long, his body felt weak and he almost fell back down.

At that moment, Alaric, who had been dozing off with his arm propped up by the bedside, suddenly snapped awake and said excitedly, "Benjamin, you're finally awake!"

"Mr. White, you're finally awake. I was so worried." Chase's eyes reddened slightly, his face full of excitement.

Benjamin coughed lightly a few times. His handsome face still carried a trace of sickly paleness, and his voice held an indescribable weakness. "Where's Sophia?"

Alaric and Chase exchanged glances, their expressions instantly stiffening.

Alaric swallowed and, after a moment of thought, said slowly, "Benjamin, don't get upset, listen to me..."

Benjamin sensed something was wrong and furrowed his brow tightly. "What happened? Where did Sophia go?"

Alaric pressed his lips together, lowered his eyes, and remained silent.

His deep, handsome face was filled with dejection and guilt.

Chase also awkwardly avoided Benjamin's gaze, not knowing how to answer for a moment.

"Chase, tell me honestly, where did Sophia go? Did something happen to Sophia? And how long was I unconscious?"

"Mr. Benjamin White, Mrs. White she..." Chase stammered, unable to get the words out.

"Benjamin, Matthew is Sophia's senior apprentice. Did you know that?" Alaric suddenly asked.

Benjamin thought for a moment and slowly nodded. "I knew they had a close relationship, but I wasn't clear about the specifics."

But now he knew.

No wonder that time after the banquet, Matthew had suddenly come over and said that his Sophia looked very much like someone he once knew.

So they had that kind of connection.

Alaric looked at Benjamin's pale face and suddenly felt reluctant to continue.

But there were some things he had to tell Benjamin.

"Benjamin, listen to me. There's something you might not know... Sophia was kidnapped together with you back then, so she has the same toxins in her body as you do."

Benjamin's upturned lips suddenly froze, and his mind went blank. "What did you say?"

Alaric sighed heavily and explained, "I didn't expect this either. Sophia is the disciple of the miracle doctor Robert, so I never thought that the poison in her body hadn't been eliminated at all. Those medicines... were actually given by Matthew to Sophia to use for..."

Before he could finish, Benjamin threw off the covers and got out of bed.

Alaric's eyelid twitched sharply, and he immediately reached out to stop him. "What are you doing?"

"I need to find Sophia."

Alaric said helplessly, "Even if you go looking for her now, Matthew probably won't let you see her."

Benjamin's face darkened, the veins at his temples bulging. "Alaric, are you saying Sophia was taken away by Matthew?"

"Yes. Matthew said he hopes that from now on, there will be no further contact with the White Family." Alaric's brow furrowed tightly, his eyes full of concern as he looked at Benjamin.

Benjamin was about to get out of bed when, hearing these words, he suddenly felt weak all over and nearly fell off the bed.

"The poison in my body is cured?" Benjamin gripped Alaric's sleeve tightly and asked urgently.

Alaric hesitated for a moment, then nodded lightly. Such a big matter couldn't be hidden even if he wanted to.

Benjamin slowly curled up, covering his face with his hands, his deep eyes filled with bloodshot veins.

"How could she be so foolish..."

Sophia.

How could she be so foolish?

No wonder every time the White Family came asking for medicine, Matthew refused to budge.

Those medicines were meant to save Sophia's life.

But now, she had used all those medicines on him.

How could she be so foolish?

Was it worth it?

For someone like him who wouldn't have lived much longer anyway.

Alaric sighed helplessly and remarked, "Now I finally understand why Matthew refused to sell us those medicines—because they were prepared for Sophia."

Benjamin's body stumbled, and he fell back onto the bed.

He sat there in a daze, not reacting for a long time.

Alaric was worried about his reaction and nervously tried to comfort him. "Benjamin, calm down first. Maybe things aren't as serious as they seem. Sophia always acts with good judgment; she wouldn't be this impulsive."

"Calm down? How can I calm down?"

Benjamin's eyes were bloodshot, filled with red veins, his jaw clenched tight.

Alaric looked at him like this and didn't know how to comfort him for a moment.

Chase also kept his head down, saying nothing.

He couldn't believe that Sophia had done something this big behind his back.

It was all his fault.

If only he had asked a few more questions back then, maybe he could have stopped Sophia.

But...

Chase's hands, hanging at his sides, slowly clenched into fists, his jaw tightly clenched.

But even if he had known the truth, he couldn't guarantee he would have actually stopped her.

Because he couldn't just watch Benjamin die.

Benjamin had been kind to him.

If not for Benjamin, he wouldn't be alive today.

It was precisely because he understood this that Chase felt even more guilty.

Just then, footsteps suddenly sounded outside the door.

Alaric and Chase turned to look and saw Elijah walking in carrying a medicine box.

He set the medicine box down on a nearby table with a serious expression and asked with concern, "I heard that Mr. White's poison flared up again?"

Alaric nodded and immediately said, "Elijah, please check Benjamin quickly. Is there any remaining poison in his body?"

"Remaining poison?" Elijah froze for a moment, then returned to normal.

This brief pause lasted only half a second and went completely unnoticed.
