Chapter 135 How Are You So Cute
"I heard you cured Benjamin's illness?" Adelaide asked curiously.
"Not yet." Sophia scratched her head sheepishly, a flash of guilt suddenly crossing her eyes.
Seeing this, Adelaide couldn't help but feel her hands itch.
She suddenly felt that Sophia in front of her was just like the little kitten she used to have—incredibly adorable.
It made her want to pet her.
Adelaide always did as she pleased. As soon as the thought came to her, she acted on it.
Sophia lowered her eyes when suddenly she felt a warm touch on the top of her head.
She looked up in surprise to see Adelaide's cool eyes soften a bit.
"It's okay, take your time. Don't put pressure on yourself. Benjamin's illness has been going on for over twenty years—a few more days won't matter," Adelaide said softly to comfort her.
A warm feeling slowly spread through Sophia's heart. She nodded firmly, "Thank you, Adelaide."
Adelaide raised an eyebrow.
She had thought Sophia would follow Benjamin's lead and call her cousin.
But she didn't mind Sophia calling her Adelaide—it actually sounded quite nice.
Most importantly, Sophia had a sweet way of speaking. Whatever she said sounded pleasant.
Thinking this, Adelaide's fondness for Sophia grew even more.
"Do you really like desserts?"
Adelaide looked at the pastries in Sophia's hands.
She had been watching Sophia for quite a while now. Ever since Sophia came to the dessert area, the plate in her hands hadn't been put down once.
She never expected that someone as cool and restrained as Benjamin would like such an adorable girl.
You really can't judge a book by its cover.
But Sophia's lively and sweet personality did complement Benjamin's cold and aloof demeanor.
She had to admit, Benjamin had good taste.
Sophia shyly pressed her lips together and nodded slowly, "I love them! Desserts make people happy! Too bad my husband doesn't like them."
Sophia sighed regretfully.
She never dreamed there would be people in this world who didn't like desserts.
Adelaide quietly watched Sophia.
Her eyes were as clear as mountain spring water—you could see right to the bottom at a glance.
Adelaide could see her thoughts right away and couldn't help but find it amusing.
Sophia's mind was truly simple.
She couldn't understand why Amelia was so against her.
"Benjamin has never liked sweets since he was little. Actually, it's not that he doesn't like them—he just has some bad memories," Adelaide said quietly.
"What memories? Are they related to Amelia?" Sophia asked, puzzled.
Adelaide realized she had said too much and quickly shook her head. "Those things are all in the past. Benjamin is lucky to have such a well-behaved and considerate wife like you."
A blush spread across Sophia's cheeks. She blinked shyly, "I think so too."
Adelaide hadn't expected Sophia to be so unabashed. She froze for a moment, then laughed softly.
"Sophia, what did you eat growing up? How can you be so cute?" Adelaide couldn't help herself and pinched Sophia's soft cheek again.
The skin under Adelaide's palm was fair and delicate, incredibly soft.
Adelaide couldn't get enough of it.
Sophia's face turned slightly red from the pinching. Her clear eyes sparkled with a watery gleam that melted people's hearts.
What should she do?
She really wanted to take her home.
She was just too adorable.
Where on earth did Benjamin find such a little treasure?
Just then, a soft voice came from behind them.
"Cousin, it really is you!" The tone was filled with unmistakable joy.
Annoyed at being interrupted, Adelaide frowned and shot a cold glance over.
Sophia turned her head to see Magnolia walking toward them.
She wore a water-blue evening gown. The strapless design showed off her fair, delicate skin and sexy curves perfectly. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders.
Charming and alluring, impossible to look away from.
But both Sophia and Adelaide were used to seeing countless beautiful women. They looked away without much interest.
The Lumina Group's entertainment company was the largest in the country.
Every year it produced numerous top celebrities and award-winning actors. Sophia had seen all kinds of beautiful men and women.
In comparison, Magnolia's looks could only be considered slightly above average.
Adelaide frowned, suddenly unable to remember the person's name.
"Magnolia," Sophia reminded her quietly.
Adelaide suddenly understood. "Oh, it's you. What do you want?"
She had never liked Magnolia and didn't bother to be polite.
Ever since that incident three years ago, Adelaide's impression of Magnolia had hit rock bottom.
The White Family had fed and raised her to adulthood, but she repaid their kindness with betrayal and even tried to climb into Benjamin's bed.
The smile on Magnolia's lips stiffened slightly, and her expression turned unpleasant.
"Cousin, you're so funny. When did you come back to the country? Why didn't you tell me?" Magnolia said with a light laugh.
"Are we that close? Why would I need to tell you? When did you come back? Didn't Benjamin tell you never to come back?" Adelaide shot back without mercy.
Magnolia's words caught in her throat.
Guests attending the birthday banquet were everywhere around them. Hearing the commotion, they all turned their curious and scrutinizing gazes toward her.
Her expression changed. She bit her teeth secretly, resentment growing in her heart.
This Adelaide was just as annoying as before, not giving her any face at all.
Once she successfully married Benjamin, she definitely wouldn't let her off easily!
But for now, Magnolia had to back down.
Because Adelaide was the precious daughter of the Martinez Family—a nobody like her couldn't afford to offend her.
"Cousin, you're joking. Benjamin was just angry at the moment. He wouldn't really keep me from coming back. Besides, I already know I was wrong about what happened three years ago."
"That's good to hear. Benjamin is already married. I don't want what happened three years ago to happen again. If I find out you still have inappropriate thoughts, I definitely won't let you off easily." Adelaide leaned close to Magnolia and whispered a warning in her ear.
Magnolia's face changed dramatically. She quickly stepped back two paces.
She forced out a weak smile. "Thank you for the reminder, cousin. I'll remember that."
With that, she left without looking back.
Her steps seemed somewhat chaotic though—it looked more like she was fleeing in panic.
Sophia snorted coldly and withdrew her gaze.
She knew all too well why Magnolia had returned to the country.
But her man wasn't someone just anyone could steal.
Magnolia had better give up that idea early, or she definitely wouldn't let her off easily.
"Sophia, Magnolia can't cause any real trouble. Please don't take her to heart or let it create any distance between you and Benjamin," Adelaide said with concern.
Sophia laughed lightly and patted her chest in assurance. "Don't worry, Adelaide. I trust my husband."
"Good." Adelaide couldn't help but gently rub Sophia's fluffy little head again.
It felt just as good as she'd imagined.
After Benjamin finished discussing business with some guests, he immediately headed toward the dessert area.
From a distance, he could see Adelaide touching and rubbing his Sophia.
His Sophia stood there, her cheeks flushed, her dewy eyes sparkling with light, looking absolutely radiant.
So obedient and soft, letting Adelaide have her way with her.
Benjamin: "..."
He'd only been gone for a little while—how did they end up together?
And from the looks of it, they seemed to be getting along quite well.
