Chapter 12 Never Separate Again
Those eyes were like a brewing storm, ready to burst, making Amelia's heart tremble.
Amelia's heart skipped a beat, her gaze flickering slightly. "Benjamin, I'm your mother. Do you really think I would trust some woman we just met over you?"
"Besides, it's been seventeen years. She was just a baby back then. How could she remember things so clearly?"
Sophia looked at Amelia coldly. "Mrs. White, do you know what kind of experiments they did in that lab?"
If she really knew, she wouldn't be asking such questions.
Benjamin's lips pressed into a tight line, his gaze growing even colder.
Back then, those people were doing cruel human experiments to find the best genes, using kids aged one to ten.
They injected batches of children with drugs regularly and locked them in cages to watch the changes.
Different bodies reacted differently to the drugs.
Some kids became super smart after the injections.
Some experienced rapid physical growth.
Others suffered severe side effects.
So it wasn't surprising to Benjamin that Sophia had a photographic memory and could remember events from seventeen years ago.
Amelia's mouth opened, and she hastily took a step back.
The Benjamin in front of her had a bloodthirsty, icy gaze, like a beast ready to go berserk at any moment.
Benjamin's stare sent chills down her spine.
At that moment, someone in the study seemed to hear the commotion outside and opened the door.
Preston saw Benjamin had returned and was about to express his joy when he sensed the tense atmosphere. "What's going on here?"
"Amelia, Benjamin, why are you both standing here?"
Amelia quickly lowered her gaze, suppressing her emotions, and respectfully said to Preston, "Dad, it's nothing. I was just talking to Benjamin."
Preston's gaze fell on Sophia, a glint of surprise in his eyes.
He had seen photos of Sophia.
In the photos, she looked sweet and pretty, with an air of innocence and detachment from worldly matters.
He hadn't expected Sophia to be even more stunning in person.
Standing next to Benjamin, they looked like a perfect match.
Preston's eyes darted between Benjamin and Sophia, his expression softening into a rare smile. "You must be Sophia? Very nice, very nice!"
Still fuming, Sophia's eyes moved slightly, and a brilliant, sweet smile lit up her face. "Hello, Grandpa! I'm Sophia, and I'll be a member of the White family from now on. Please take care of me!"
Her words brought a wide smile to Preston's face, a sight rarely seen.
Preston looked at Sophia with growing satisfaction.
As people age, they tended to favor sweet, obedient girls like her.
"All good, all good! Benjamin has always been a bit aloof, and I worried he wouldn't find a wife. Now I can finally relax."
"Sophia, Benjamin may seem cold, but he has a gentle side. Don't worry, our White family will treat you well."
"If Benjamin ever upsets you, just come to me. I'll take care of him!"
Amelia's eyes widened in shock.
Was this really the same Preston who always wore a stern face, scaring kids to tears?
When did he become so kind and approachable?
Amelia had been married into the White family for years and had rarely seen Preston smile at her, let alone speak so affectionately.
A wave of discomfort washed over Amelia.
With Preston's intervention, the violent turmoil in Benjamin's heart gradually subsided.
He exhaled slowly, his gaze still cold and piercing as he looked at Amelia.
Just then, someone beside him stood on tiptoe and whispered in his ear, "Honey, don't be mad. I've found you now!"
"We'll never be apart again, okay?"
Benjamin lowered his eyes, feeling the warm breath against his ear, his skin instantly heating up.
The warmth spread like an electric current, reaching his heart.
Never apart again...
Benjamin felt a strange emotion spreading through his body, making his heart tremble.
He looked down at Sophia, who had taken his hand, their fingers interlocked, holding tightly.
In her palm, he felt her warmth.
It was soft and tender.
For a man who had rarely experienced physical intimacy with women, Benjamin's cheeks flushed red.
The last remnants of his violent anger dissipated with Sophia's words.
Like a wild lion tamed, he became incredibly gentle.
He slowly spoke, his deep, hoarse voice resonating, "Okay."
As long as he lived, he wouldn't let Sophia leave him again.
Preston, his mouth dry from talking, noticed Benjamin staring absentmindedly at his hand.
He felt a surge of frustration.
He had been talking so much, and Benjamin didn't seem to care at all!
Preston waved his hand and glared at Benjamin. "Come with me. I have something to ask you."
Turning to Sophia, Preston's expression softened again. "Sophia, you come too. I have something to say to both of you."
Benjamin watched Preston's retreating figure, his lips twitching slightly.
Was he really his biological grandson?
Why else would there be such a stark difference in treatment?
He sighed and looked back at Sophia, his voice low and gentle. "Don't be afraid. Grandpa's just like that."
Sophia nodded, a slight smile on her lips. "Grandpa is adorable. Just like Robert."
Too bad Robert wasn't here. They would have had so much to talk about!
Watching the two walk away hand in hand, Amelia, completely ignored, frowned deeply.
Her years of upbringing prevented her from saying anything crude, but her impression of Sophia had hit rock bottom.
No, she needed to come up with a plan.
Sophia was clearly a scheming woman.
How else could she have won over both Benjamin and Preston in such a short time?
And she didn't believe in the existence of gene-altering drugs.
If they really existed, they would have been a sensation by now.
After all, many parents wanted their children to be exceptionally smart.
This must be a lie Sophia concocted!
So young yet so deceitful, with no sense of propriety!
How could such a girl be her daughter-in-law?
Amelia stomped her foot in frustration and then turned to leave the second floor.
