Chapter 112 I Have Never Admitted Benjamin as My Son
"Dad, why so sudden? What are you going to do?" Amelia put down her utensils, frowning.
Everyone at the table looked at Preston.
Preston explained in a low voice, "An old friend invited me to hang out for a few days, and we'll talk some business while I'm there."
Although Preston had retired, he still occasionally handled company matters.
Having spent years in the business world, his network of connections was far more extensive than Benjamin and the younger generation.
The person he was going to meet was a business tycoon in Vesperia.
If the two companies joined forces, the White Group would definitely reach a new level.
"You should just leave these things to the younger generation. Why do you need to make the trip yourself?" Amelia said disapprovingly.
"Relationships need to be maintained. They sincerely invited me. If I just send someone from the younger generation, it would be too disrespectful." Preston slowly shook his head, his attitude very firm.
Amelia glanced coldly at Benjamin, saying pointedly, "If you just leave like this, won't there be no place for me in this house anymore?"
"Mom! What are you talking about!" Alaric scolded coldly, stopping Amelia from continuing.
"Am I wrong? This house is controlled by an ungrateful person. What good days can we have!" Amelia stretched her neck, her eyes full of anger.
"He's your own son, not an ungrateful person!" Alaric suddenly slammed his utensils on the table, his eyes full of fury.
Amelia was startled by his action and defended herself quietly, "I was just saying. Why are you getting so angry? Besides, I've never acknowledged Benjamin as my son!"
In Amelia's heart, Benjamin had always been her stain.
Every time he was mentioned, Amelia couldn't control her emotions.
"You carried him for ten months and gave birth to him. If he's not your child, whose could he be? If you keep this up, I'll notify Tobias to take you back." Preston's face also darkened.
Tobias was Amelia's biological father.
At the mention of his name, Amelia instantly panicked.
She guiltily lowered her eyes, which flickered slightly.
Benjamin glanced at her coldly, his deep eyes showing no emotion whatsoever.
Just one look made Amelia feel chilled to the bone.
She fearfully shrank her shoulders and stopped talking.
Benjamin mockingly curved his lips.
Amelia should be grateful that she was his mother.
Preston scolded in a stern voice, "If you don't want to live properly, then leave as soon as possible. I know you're obsessed with what happened back then, but that's not a reason for you to hurt and resent Benjamin."
What happened back then was a thorn in Amelia's heart.
Over the years, that thorn had dug deeper and deeper.
With the passage of time, instead of disappearing, that hatred had only intensified.
Looking at Amelia, who kept her head down and said nothing, Preston couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
So much time had passed, and he thought Amelia would gradually move on.
But unexpectedly...
"Alaric, contact that psychologist from before again and have him come check on your mother." Preston ordered with a stern face.
Alaric's expression was somewhat unpleasant, but he still nodded.
Throughout all this, Sophia remained silent.
Her hand hidden under the table gently tugged at Benjamin's sleeve.
Benjamin noticed her small gesture and turned to look at her.
Sophia gave him a comforting smile.
Today's scene wasn't the first time it had happened, and certainly wouldn't be the last.
What Sophia could do was give Benjamin enough comfort, letting him know he was never fighting alone.
Benjamin curved his lips slightly, indicating he was fine.
Such incidents had already repeated countless times.
He had gone from initial sadness and despair to gradually becoming numb.
Now he could already remain expressionless and ignore it all.
This dinner ended on a sour note.
After dinner, Preston called Benjamin and Sophia to the study.
"Sophia, your mother-in-law just has that kind of temper. Please don't take it to heart. She's just sick, and she's actually in great pain inside too."
"Grandpa, do you mean she has a psychological condition?" Sophia asked curiously.
Preston nodded gravely, "What normal person wouldn't acknowledge their own biological son? She's just too obsessed with what happened back then."
"As a younger generation member, I have no right to comment on what happened back then, but if she keeps humiliating my husband, I definitely won't just ignore it." Sophia grasped Benjamin's hand firmly, her tone resolute.
Benjamin froze for a moment, then looked down at their clasped hands.
Sophia continued, "I understand the principle of 'don't judge others unless you've walked in their shoes.' But she's not the only one in pain. How is my husband any less innocent?"
Preston looked at Sophia and finally couldn't help but laugh heartily.
"Good! Good! Good!" Preston's eyes were full of approval as he looked at Sophia.
"Sophia, marrying you is truly the best decision Benjamin has ever made in his life."
Sophia smiled and shook her head, "Meeting him is also the greatest blessing of my life."
Hearing this, a warm current flowed through Benjamin's heart.
"By the way Sophia, do you have more of that calming medicine you gave me last time? I've finished what I had and want to bring some for my old friend." Preston asked expectantly.
The effect of that calming medicine was simply better than all the other medicines he had taken.
Preston was getting old and always had restless sleep.
Over the years, he had tried countless methods, but none had much effect.
Since taking Sophia's calming medicine, his sleep this past month had been wonderful.
Sophia truly deserved to be the disciple of the miracle doctor Robert.
Sophia: "I didn't bring much, and I've used it all up. If you need it, I can make some more for you tonight."
"That would be wonderful."
"No trouble at all."
Benjamin's grandfather was her grandfather too.
Looking at Sophia's innocent and charming face, Preston felt mixed emotions.
It seemed he was benefiting from his grandson's good fortune.
"Sophia, you've seen your mother-in-law's condition. I'm afraid that while I'm away, she might do something extreme, so please take good care of Benjamin."
Preston's worry was not without reason.
After all, given Amelia's level of obsession, she was capable of anything.
"Okay, I'll definitely take good care of him." Sophia promised firmly.
Early the next morning, Preston boarded a private plane to Vesperia.
Sophia, who usually loved to sleep in, uncharacteristically got up early today.
Benjamin was half-leaning against the headboard, his deep eyes carrying a hint of drowsiness from just waking up.
He looked at Sophia with surprise and asked, "Why are you up so early today?"
"Don't we need to see Grandpa off?"
Sophia buried her face deeply in Benjamin's broad chest, her mood somewhat low.
