Chapter 77 Calling for Help
Audrey stared at him with defiant, shining eyes, even though her body trembled. “I’m not afraid of you!”
“Oh, that’s fine with me,” Vincent replied softly but threateningly. “And I like your spirit. It makes everything more interesting.”
A sinister grin spread across Vincent’s face as a dark glint flashed in his eyes. Audrey shivered, seeing it. “Let’s start discussing how you’re going to settle Henry’s debt.”
Just as Audrey was about to retort, the man continued, “And don’t even think about running. This place is tightly guarded, and you won’t get far. Or you’ll face the consequences yourself!”
Audrey looked at Vincent with an unreadable expression, her eyes narrowing slightly as she quickly thought of a way out of this situation. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. If Vincent thought she was weak, she’d never have a chance to escape.
“If I pay off that man’s debt, will you let me go?” Audrey asked, trying her luck. She wasn’t sure, but she forced herself to stay calm.
Vincent snorted, his grin widening into a dismissive sneer. “How are you going to pay off a debt that big, huh? You’re just a little girl with nothing.”
Audrey tried hard not to show her irritation at the insult. “You don’t know what I have. Don’t jump to conclusions about me!”
Vincent raised an eyebrow, looking intrigued. Money was, after all, more fun. “Oh? Go on. What do you mean?”
“If you give me time, I can get the money,” Audrey continued, her voice starting to sound steadier. She lifted her chin slightly, trying to show the confidence she had left. “I work for one of the biggest companies in the country. You know Elliot Harrington, right?”
The name made Vincent pause, his expression slowly turning serious. “Elliot Harrington? CEO of MGC Group? What’s your connection to him?”
Audrey gave a faint smile, slightly pleased that the man in front of her seemed interested. Her heart was pounding wildly for using Elliot’s name so recklessly, but she felt this was her only chance. “I’m his secretary. And if I ask him for help, he might do it.”
Vincent chuckled again, then leaned in even closer, making Audrey feel more cornered. “You think I’d believe that nonsense? If he really cared, why isn’t he here saving you?”
Audrey clenched her fists, keeping her expression neutral. “Because I didn’t want to involve anyone else. But if you really want the money, I can contact him. And I’m sure he wouldn’t mind paying it.”
Vincent seemed to think, the smirk on his face fading slightly. “You’re serious? You’re sure he’ll just pay it? No questions asked?”
“I’m one of his most valuable employees,” Audrey answered without hesitation. “He won’t let anything bad happen to me. But that can only happen if you give me the chance to contact him and if you don’t… cross any lines.”
Vincent straightened up again, his eyes still fixed on Audrey. He looked hesitant but was clearly considering the offer. He knew exactly who Elliot Harrington was.
“And how do I know you won’t try to run the second I give you a phone?”
“You can keep watching me,” Audrey replied quickly. “I don’t have any other choice but to obey you, right? But I can guarantee that if you let me contact Mr. Harrington, you’ll get your money. And this problem will be over. The problem was Henry’s debt from the start, wasn’t it?”
Vincent was silent for a moment, thinking hard. He stroked his chin slowly, his sly grin returning. “Alright. I’ll give you one chance. But remember, if you try to trick me, I won’t hesitate to end your life right here!”
Audrey swallowed hard but gave a slight nod. “I understand.”
Vincent stood up and walked out of the room with his associate. “I’ll make the arrangements. But remember, sweetheart, I’m watching your every move.”
After Vincent left the room with his men and the door was locked again, Audrey immediately let out a sigh of relief, trying to calm down from the tension that had just occurred. At least her move this time had held off that paunchy man from touching her for now.
Audrey was sure Vincent wouldn't truly give her freedom, and her offer to contact Elliot was probably just seen as a game by that man.
Quickly, she scanned the room for something she could use to free herself or at least to protect herself. But, the room was empty and clean, without a single object that could help her.
Audrey snorted in annoyance and anxiety. Given her situation, she had to be even more careful with her attitude and words to avoid putting herself in greater danger.
Not long after, the door opened again, making Audrey alert once more. Vincent returned with his men. This time, the large, paunchy man's face was cold and looked more serious than before.
"You can make the call," the man said, tossing a phone onto the small table near Audrey. "But don't try any tricks. I'll be watching every second!"
