Chapter 66 Won't be Easy
"What are you talking about, Sir?" Audrey could no longer contain herself, her face was slightly pouting because she was starting to get annoyed with Elliot's somewhat unclear behavior.
Seeing this, Elliot let out a hidden smile. Audrey's face was getting redder and looked adorable. Her slightly pouting lips when she was annoyed had always attracted his attention.
"Don't pout your lips like that," the man said in a low voice, his eyes slightly darkening.
Audrey instead made her face even more sulky. "And what will you—"
Before she could add another word, Elliot suddenly lowered his face and landed his lips on top of Audrey's.
The kiss was soft at first, but slowly became deeper and more intense. Audrey's body froze, but slowly she began to be carried away by the man's touch.
This was different from her dreams. This was real, overwhelming, and it shattered every professional barrier she had built between them into a thousand pieces.
When Elliot finally released the kiss, he stared intently at Audrey's still-red face. His fingers gently caressed the woman's cheek. "Then give me a chance. A chance to prove that I am worthy to be with you."
Seeing Audrey not saying anything, Elliot raised one eyebrow. "Do you think my feelings are less genuine because of my background? Not comparable to all your achievements because of your effort?"
"Sir!" The man's question made Audrey sulk again, making Elliot chuckle silently.
Seeing Audrey still comfortable in her silence, Elliot smiled faintly, as if understanding the woman's confusion.
"I'm not asking for your answer now," he said softly, this time without the demanding or forcing tone as before. "I just want you to know what I truly feel."
Audrey looked down, trying to regulate her erratic breathing. She did not dare to look at the man again, afraid that what she felt would become even more apparent.
"You don't need to rush your decision," Elliot continued, his tone serious but also calming. "But I want you to know one thing, Audrey. I won't give up easily."
Audrey's eyes widened hearing those words. She finally dared to look up and stare at Elliot. The man was still smiling, there was a firmness behind his smile that made Her chest feel even tighter.
"Sir, but this... won't be as easy as you think," Audrey said softly, trying to create distance. "There are too many things that—"
"I know," Elliot cut in firmly. "I know this won't be easy. But I have thought about it. And I am ready to face whatever happens, as long as you don't close the door on me."
Audrey was silent again. Her feelings were mixed, but she knew she couldn't keep avoiding him. She took a long, deep breath, trying to calm herself before speaking again. "In that case, give me time."
"As much as you need," Elliot replied without hesitation. "But one thing you must remember, I am serious."
Audrey was only silent. She didn't know what would happen next, but she couldn't ignore the fact that the man in front of her had messed up her world, and it seemed like she couldn't retreat anymore.
Then, the woman looked at her boss earnestly. "But you have to promise me one thing!"
"What is it?"
"Don't do anything to pressure or help me in any matter!"
The smile on Elliot's face disappeared, replaced by an expression of protest. "How can I? I—"
Audrey's glare immediately stopped Elliot from speaking. The man clicked his tongue, slightly annoyed. "Fine." he said a little reluctantly. "But you also have to promise me one thing."
Audrey looked at Elliot suspiciously.
Slowly the man reached for Audrey's fingers, then kissed them gently and with deep feeling. He then stared intently at the woman. "If I approach you, don't reject me just because I am Elliot Harrington, a CEO. Look at me as a grown man who is falling in love with you."
Audrey didn't know how red her face was now.
"And you... have to accept it as a woman, not limit yourself to being my secretary."
After Elliot finished saying the sentence, Audrey was stunned. Her body froze, with her heart beating fast. She didn't know what to say. Feelings were mixed within her. Surprised, touched, or even more confused.
The man's gaze in front of her was so sincere, making Audrey unable to look away. Elliot's fingers, which were still holding her hand, felt increasingly warm, but also created such a strange effect in her.
"I..." Audrey slowly swallowed her saliva, trying to find the right words. "I have to go back. There are minute reports that—"
Before Audrey could finish speaking, Elliot suddenly approached, stealing a brief kiss on her lips. The movement was so quick and brief, but enough to make Audrey's whole body tense.
The man then turned casually, walking towards his desk without looking back. "Go back," he said casually, as if nothing had happened, then sat in his chair and calmly began opening another report.
Audrey stood frozen in her place, her cheeks flushed up to her ears. Her hand instinctively touched her lips, which now felt warm and pulsed strangely. She felt her whole world shaking.
"Sir!" Audrey exclaimed, just realizing, with a voice that was higher than usual. Her face was still flushed, a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance for feeling caught off guard.
Elliot only glanced at her from the desk, a mischievous smile adorning his face. "What? Do you want more?"
"You can't..." Audrey paused and sulked even more while biting her lip. She knew if she kept talking, she would only get cornered further. "Ugh! Never mind!"
The woman quickly turned around and walked out of the room, leaving Elliot with a faint smile. "You have to be patient dealing with me, Auds..."
