Chapter 15 CEO's girlfriend
"What are you all doing? Making such a fuss! If Mr. Nicholas sees this, you'll be in trouble!" Suddenly, a stern female voice interrupted their conversation.
"Oh, it's Assistant Emily who's here... The CEO has already arrived and is probably in his office by now." The front desk receptionist gave Emily a sideways glance. She was always overly demanding of them and had obvious feelings for the CEO, which made everyone dislike her.
Emily heard that Mr. Nicholas had already arrived and decided to go upstairs with her bag.
"What are you talking about? The CEO should be in the HR department now. Ah, I envy the girl who's being led by Mr. Nicholas," another girl said, deliberately emphasizing the words "being led".
Hearing their words, Emily's face immediately darkened. She had bullied many girls who liked Mr. Nicholas behind his back, and now her jealousy boiled over.
"Don't talk nonsense, or I'll make you all leave." Emily lowered her voice and said. She had worked hard to climb to the position of assistant, hoping that one day Mr. Nicholas would notice her and fall in love with her.
"Umm, even the CEO's girlfriend has appeared, what are you still trying to prove?" The receptionist sneered. She had long been unable to stand Emily's attitude.
Emily glared at her and quickly walked into the elevator, heading straight to the top floor.
As soon as she sat down at her desk, she was about to go into Mr. Nicholas's office under the pretext of delivering documents when she saw the door open from inside.
"I'm afraid I'll be a burden to you..." Caroline had just started working by Mr. Nicholas's side and felt inadequate, as she had never dealt with this kind of thing in her 20 years of life, yet she had started at such a high point.
"Don't worry, I will teach you slowly. My darling is so smart, there's nothing she can't do." Nicholas raised his hand and rubbed Caroline's head gently as he spoke softly.
Having spent so much time with Nicholas, Caroline seemed to have gotten used to him calling her "darling" and his little gesture of rubbing her head. Their interaction had become more natural over time.
James was still standing behind them, feeling fed up with all the "dog food" he was being fed.
Emily had a perfect smile on her lips, but after seeing this scene, she couldn't keep up the facade anymore and her face turned dark.
Actually, Emily didn't have much contact with Nicholas on a regular basis. Most things were handled by James, who then passed them on to Nicholas.
"What's wrong with you today? You don't look good." James noticed Emily standing there with documents and asked casually.
"I'm fine. Mr. Nicholas is early, and you are early, too."
"Yeah, I'll leave Caroline's work to you today. Don't let her do anything too difficult at the beginning. Start with something simple." Facing Emily, Nicholas spoke in a cold, business-like tone, not even giving her an extra glance.
"I understand." Emily still had a smile on her face as she replied softly.
"If you have anything, come directly to my office. If you can't find me, call me." Nicholas added another reminder.
"I know. You go to work. Don't worry about me." Caroline pushed Nicholas gently, gesturing for him to go to work.
Nicholas clearly noticed the change in Caroline's attitude, from being guarded against him before, to now being more accepting of his affection. Although the change was not significant, it still made him feel happy.
"You can go make me a cup of coffee first, then organize these files. The CEO will need them for a meeting later." Nicholas just left, and the smile on Emily's face disappeared immediately. He shoved the stack of files on the table into Caroline's arms with a straight face.
Caroline's desk was across from Emily's. When she heard that it was for Nicholas, she quickly put the files on her desk and hurried to make him a cup of coffee.
As Caroline was about to hand the coffee to Emily, she suddenly stood up and accidentally spilled the coffee on Warmth, drenching her clothes.
"Oops, it was an accident. Are you okay?" Emily pretended to be concerned.
From the moment Caroline met Emily, she felt a strange familiarity. Now she understood why. The way Emily looked at her was exactly the same as the way she looked at her in the past: full of hatred, jealousy, and ridicule after successfully scheming against her.
Caroline's frown on her forehead tightened, and she didn't say anything, just took out a tissue from the table and wiped it off. Nicholas hadn't given her the work clothes yet, and she had no clothes to change into. Plus, she had just heard that the documents were urgent, so Caroline didn't say anything and sat in her seat, looking at the documents.
It was her first time encountering these things, and she was unfamiliar with them and processed them slowly. There were some places where she wasn't sure what to do, but Emily used the excuse of arranging a meeting and left, leaving Caroline feeling a little anxious.
These documents were originally Emily's job, and as someone who dealt with them all day, it wouldn't take her long to finish them. But now, she had handed them all over to Caroline.
James came out of the office and asked Emily for the documents, but he only saw Caroline alone.
"Um... Madam, where did Emily go? The CEO is urging us to use the documents for the meeting later."
"She said she went to arrange a meeting. I haven't finished organizing the documents yet..." Although Caroline had reminded James not to call her "Madam" in the company, she didn't pay attention to the situation in the urgency.
"Madam, you don't need to handle this. It might be a bit difficult to organize the files when you just start..." James's face sank. He occasionally heard rumors about Emily's liking for Nicholas, but he just took it as a joke and didn't think much about it.
Emily usually works diligently and handles things well, but today, she seemed very strange, which made James think in that direction.
"What's wrong? It's taking so long to get a file?" Caroline wanted to say something else, but she saw Nicholas walking out of the office.
He didn't need to come out, but just wanted to see if Caroline had any difficulties with her work.
"Mr. Nicholas, Emily has the documents..." James was about to report to Nicholas on the situation, but Nicholas spoke first.
"What's wrong with your clothes?" Caroline wore a white coat today, and the coffee stains on it were particularly eye-catching. Only after hearing Nicholas's words did James see the stains on Caroline's coat.
"It's okay, I accidentally spilled something on it." Caroline casually covered up the matter.
"Go get a smaller work uniform." Nicholas said to James, and Emily walked out of the elevator.
