Chapter 46
Liam hastily exited the room after they had completed their kiss.
"I didn't expect you to have such a special hobby," a chilly voice said to Stella as she was about to hand over her phone. She couldn't express herself. She scowled at him, not intending to give him an explanation, and hurried off.
Clarence stumbled on something just as he was ready to walk away. Gazing downwards, he noticed a paper bag bearing the words 'Maternal and Infant Products'. He took up the paper bag with composure as he bowed down.
Stella only intended to call Sherry after leaving the hotel, but then she realized that she was filming. She thus reopened the WeChat chat window and, after inputting the words multiple times, erased them. She did so and then got grievous.
After being together for a while, Sherry and Liam's relationship had always been positive. Liam had plenty of money and many people after him. But regardless of how other ladies attempted to get close to him, Sherry remained the only woman he had eyes for.
Liam followed Sherry everywhere at the time, and some even made fun of him for it, but he was glad to do so. However, she had no idea that after Liam spent just a year abroad, everything would have changed. Sherry continued to wait for him to ask her to marry him.
Was love going to vanish, then? Stella put down her phone, helplessly, not knowing how in the world she was going to tell Sherry about this. Abruptly, she looked down and saw that the baby clothing she had just purchased were missing. It took her a few moments to come to terms with the idea that the clothing were left in the hotel room as she remained motionless.
After only a month of quiet, she was getting awful news all the time, and it was making her feel like her head was going to blow up. Stella was not in the mood to quarrel with Clarence, nor did she have the fortitude to go back and look for it. She spent a considerable amount of time in bed after returning to her condominium, and it wasn't until she felt relieved that she got out of bed and began creating the necklace for Joanna.
"Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Conrad said he found your thing," summoned her in the middle of the night by the Starry Lake Mansion's maid. “Come get them if you still desire them. Mr. Conrad will discard them if they don't.”
Stella wanted to express that she was against the item. However, she was certain that since the miserable man had contacted her on purpose, he had to be contemplating something. He would have even more suspicions about her if she hadn't gone to get the item.
Within the Mansion of Starry Lake... Setting down her phone, the maid remarked, "Sir, madam said she'll be right over."
"Hmm," remarked Clarence, before apathetically asking the maid to go relax.
The housekeeper gave a nod. She gave a small bow and walked away.
After untying his necktie, Clarence grabbed the paper bag from the couch and headed upstairs to the first level.
After thirty minutes, Stella forcefully opened the Starry Lake Mansion door. The lights were on in the ground floor, but nobody was in sight.
Stella could only move slowly upstairs, her lips pursed. "Mr. Conrad, are you there?" she asked as she stood at the bedroom door and held it open. He did not give her a reply.
Suppressing her rage, Stella spoke up a little louder, "Mr. Conrad, are you there!"
A few seconds later, she heard a casual male voice say coming from the room. , "Come in,"
She pulled the door open and stepped inside gingerly. Clarence emerged from the lavatory. His hair was wet, and he wore a casual shirt. He took one look at Stella, then strode directly to the sofa and lifted his chin to say, "Your thing."
"Thanks, Mr. Conrad," said Stella as she hurried over and took the paper bag in her arms. “If anything more has to be done, I'll go first. Good night, Mr. Conrad. Go to bed early."
"Hold on." Stella just stood there. "Shouldn't you explain to me what's in this bag?" asked Clarence as he slowly raised his gaze.
Stella's body tensed, and she told him the long-planned lie with composure, "Isn't Sherry getting ready to become pregnant? As the child's prospective godmother, purchasing these items is just usual for me." Her deception seemed plausible until she started to believe it herself.
"Stella, do you really think I am a fool?" snorted Clarence. Stella felt a brief pounding in her heart at hearing his words. She fought so hard to maintain her smile and said, "What I said is true. I also have no choice if Mr. Conrad does not trust me."
Clarence remained silent. Stella was extremely anxious since she was unsure of the extent of his suspicions and she was afraid to speak out of the blue. She saw that Clarence was unhappy and despondent, but it didn't mean he was going to chastise or curse her.
"Stella, do you want a child?" Clarence said carefully, not knowing how long it would take. She was aware that Vivian was not carrying a child and was merely his acquaintance. Stella might make up a pregnancy if she was determined to get a divorce from him, or if she wanted to irritate him. At the moment, Clarence wondered if Stella was trying to test him. He was unable to grant her want to have a kid. Was this, therefore, the reason behind her arguments with him and her declaration that she wanted a divorce?
She tried to remain composed while the corner of her mouth quivered, saying, "I don't have such thoughts."
"Is that so?" he asked her in a hazy voice. However, his true meaning was that he could see exactly what she was thinking and that she was done arguing.
"Even if I want a child, it has nothing to do with you," she said after pausing. “You need to call me here to ask this, because I have no idea what Mr. Conrad is thinking. However, I must remind you that Mr. Conrad was the one who declared, "I will not allow any woman, including you, to become pregnant with my child."
"Did I say that before?" scowled Clarence. Stella couldn't say anything. The miserable man was really blatant!
Clarence said, "Even if I said that, it's still true, and you should know very well that I don't plan to have any children."
“Well-“ Stella replied. It is not relevant to her.
Clarence pursed his thin lips, listening to her voice trail off into silence for a moment before continuing, "At least not for these two years, but it's possible to consider it in the future."
He would never allow his child to be raised as a puppet, growing up with everything planned out for them by others.
"Mr. Conrad can discuss this kind of private matter with your future partner," Stella remarked calmly. “You don't have to tell me."
Feeling that this woman was unaware of what was best for her, Clarence cast a disapproving glance at her. Even after he had clarified his position and offered some compromises, she continued to project an air of stubbornness. It was true that once he gave in to her, Stella would want more. He didn't want to inquire, but Stella wasn't sure why there was a menacing energy in his eyes.
"Then I won't disturb Mr. Conrad, see you," she only grinned.
With a callous interruption, Clarence said, "Move all your things away." Stella didn't grasp what he was saying. What other items did she have in this place?"
"Your belongings are the ones in the wardrobe. Take them out of the way."
"But those aren't my ... things."
The wardrobe's shoes, bags, and clothing were essentially shipped straight from the store. She had never really worn them before.
