Chapter 249 Give Him Another Chance Again

Chapter 249 Give Him Another Chance Again

Over Matilda's shoulder, he caught sight of the man standing inside the apartment.

Thomas had one hand on Matilda's suitcase handle, looking down at him with cold authority.

Matilda seized the opportunity to pull the door wider, delivering her dismissal directly.

"No need. Don't come looking for me again."

Gavin wasn't ready to give up.

He'd worked so hard to hook this wealthy catch—no way was he letting go easily.

"Matilda, just let me explain! That woman yesterday was a total psycho!" Gavin pressed forward urgently, trying to grab Matilda's arm. "Just give me a chance—"

Thomas released the suitcase and strode in front of Matilda, blocking her completely.

Gavin's hand grabbed nothing but air.

"She told you to get lost." Thomas's voice dropped dangerously low. "You deaf or something?"

Gavin's expression darkened. He didn't dare throw hands with Thomas, so he could only point at him while demanding answers from Matilda.

"You two got back together? Didn't you say yesterday you'd never, ever get back with this guy?"

Matilda peeked out from behind Thomas.

"We didn't get back together." Her tone was calm. "But how is that any of your business?"

Gavin choked on his words, speechless for a long moment.

Thomas's mouth twisted into a mocking smirk.

"You pay off that three hundred grand yet?"

"A degenerate gambler has the nerve to come chasing after her—what, you think she'll cover your debts?"

Gavin's whole body jolted.

Realization dawned on him instantly. He thrust his finger toward Thomas's nose, eyes wide with accusation.

"It was you, wasn't it? You sent that crazy woman after me!"

Thomas didn't take the bait, tilting his head toward the courtyard instead.

A clatter of messy footsteps echoed from outside.

Several burly men charged up the stairs with menacing energy, led by none other than yesterday's woman.

"There! That's the deadbeat! Right there!" the woman shrieked, pointing at Gavin.

"Grab him! Don't let him get away!" the thugs bellowed as they rushed forward.

Gavin's face went pale as a sheet. He didn't even bother with the roses in his hand—just threw them on the ground and bolted toward the opposite corridor.

The debt collectors trampled over the roses as they gave chase.

The hallway fell quiet again, littered with crushed petals.

Matilda turned to look at Thomas.

"You sent those guys too?"

Thomas picked up the suitcase handle and pulled her toward the exit.

"Yeah."

"Thomas, you're really..." Matilda couldn't find the right word.

"Calculating?" Thomas finished for her. "I just didn't want him harassing you anymore."

Matilda closed her mouth and said nothing more.

Two hours later, the plane touched down at Harmony City Airport.

Matilda and Thomas walked out of the terminal side by side.

Just as they reached the arrivals area, a man in a floral shirt came striding up to them.

Grant clutched an extravagant bouquet of champagne roses, his face lit up with a brilliant smile.

"Mary!" Grant called out loudly, walking briskly toward them.

Matilda's steps faltered.

What was Grant doing here?

Grant approached and was about to hand over the flowers when his gaze shifted to Thomas beside her.

He raised an eyebrow, his smile growing even wider.

"Mr. Stuart?" Grant's tone was flippant. "What a coincidence—just get off a flight yourself?"

Thomas stared at the flowers in Grant's hands, his expression instantly darkening.

"You've got too much time on your hands."

Grant didn't seem bothered in the slightest. Instead, he leaned in closer.

"When it comes to picking up Mary, I'll make time no matter how busy I am." Grant deliberately emphasized his words.

Matilda rubbed her temples with a headache coming on.

"Grant, quit messing around."

Grant pouted with exaggerated hurt, shoving the bouquet into Matilda's arms.

"How am I messing around? You disappear for days without even replying to my messages—I've been worried sick."

Thomas reached out and pulled Matilda firmly to his side.

The champagne roses got crushed in the process, several petals falling to the floor.

"I'm taking care of her. It's not your concern." Thomas's tone was ice-cold.

Grant watched Thomas's possessive gesture with an amused glint in his eye.

Grant shoved his hands in his pockets, adopting a cocky stance. "Mary's single now. Fair game for everyone, right?"

"You already divorced her, didn't you? You can't possibly be trying to stop me from pursuing her now?"

"You don't stand a chance." Thomas cut him off coldly.

Grant let out an exaggerated sigh and turned to Matilda.

"Mary, look at this overbearing attitude of his. Men like this are the most boring. What good does it do you to be with him?"

Thomas's grip on Matilda's wrist tightened.

He turned to look at her.

The airport terminal buzzed with noise, flight announcements looping over the speakers.

Thomas just stared at her steadily.

"You promised me at the hospital." Thomas's voice wasn't loud, but every word was crystal clear. "That you'd reconsider us."

Grant whistled from the sidelines.

"Mary, don't let him fool you. He's got more schemes than anyone. Before this, he didn't even know what his own wife looked like, but he was out there flirting with everyone else—total scumbag behavior!"

"That was between us before. It has nothing to do with her." Thomas kept his eyes locked on Matilda. "I want your answer."

Matilda's wrist ached from his grip.

She glanced at Grant's face, clearly enjoying the drama, then at Thomas's tense jawline.

Thomas's palm still carried the slight coolness of someone recovering from illness, yet he stubbornly refused to let her go.

"Answer me." Thomas pressed.

Matilda took a deep breath and shoved the champagne roses back into Grant's arms.

"Grant, you should head home."

Grant's smile collapsed.

"Mary, are you serious?"

"Don't forget how he treated you before. Are you really going to reconsider him?"

"I still think you should be with me instead. I'd treat you way better than he ever did."

Matilda ignored him and turned to face Thomas directly.

"I don't go back on my word. I'm willing to reconsider you."

Thomas's tense shoulders relaxed instantly.

The corner of his mouth curved upward as he smoothly laced his fingers through hers, holding her hand tightly.

"Good."

Matilda let him hold her hand as they walked side by side toward the terminal exit.

Matilda looked at Thomas's profile and decided to let go of the past and give him another chance.

She wanted to believe that after everything they'd been through recently, he wouldn't be like he was before.

And she herself had realized during these past few days that she actually cared about Thomas—she couldn't help but worry about his condition.

If that was the case, Matilda had nothing left to hide.

They were both adults. Not even thirty years old yet. What couldn't they start over?

She was willing to give Thomas a chance, but she was also giving herself a chance to step back into this relationship.

Just then, she heard a voice near her ear. Matilda turned her head.

Before she could react, she stumbled into a warm embrace. Thomas said, "Thank you."

"Thank you for being willing to give me another chance."
