Chapter 113
Chapter 113
Charles pov
“Err… good morning sir.” Sloane said to me as she made her way in. Unlike every other day, she would shoot a smile at me and at least maintain eye contact but this time it was different. She didn’t steal a glance at me at all.
“… and that’s right about all you have for today, also there may be an impromptu meeting with Sylvester Chevalier, it’s impromptu because the meeting time hasn’t been scheduled yet.”
When she was done speaking, she kept her gaze on the screen of the iPad, “Sloane.” I called out.
“Yes sir?” She called out but still didn’t look at me at all. I already knew she was feeling very uncomfortable to even face me after what happened between us last night before the party was over and afterwards, we all left before the guest did in fact.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you.” I said to her calmly. She finally turned to me but kept darting her eyes around the room and looking at every other part of the room and everyone else inside the room beside me.
“Look, about yesterday, I know it’s the reason why you’re feeling this uncomfortable, if it’s fine by you we can completely agree that it never happened and then just go on with our lives instead of acting all weird and strange around each other.”
“Sir … I … I was out of control, I shouldn’t have and that was very unprofessional of me and very much not part of the job description.”
“Sloane, you don’t need to explain anything to me, let’s just pretend it never happened and at the same time u demand we just go back to our regular lives, is that okay?”
“Yes sir, please.”
“Have you heard from Langford or his daughter?”
“No sir. They haven’t sent any messages to you sir, but according to the rumors and blogs, they’re making preparations for Isadora’s forthcoming wedding ceremony.”
“Mmm…” I hummed and rubbed my hand against my chin. “So Isadora is truly getting married to Oliver?”
“Yes sir. In a few weeks, I’m not sure about when the wedding day is.”
“Alright then err that all you can go now.”
As Sloane stepped out of the room, I couldn’t help but gaze at her body, reminiscing what happened the previous night and imagining all the styles and positions that I could possibly put her in but I shook my head and snapped out of it, here I was, lusting over my secretary, I couldn’t even believe yesterday he happened. Sloane has worked with me for the longest time and I never believed this would happen between us but then again I was glad that things didn’t get complicated.
Deep down in my heart I knew this was just how I was trying to distract myself from everything going on between Isadora and me and her life generally.
I still didn’t want to admit it but the strong feeling I got each time I heard about her wedding prep with Oliver, I assumed it was jealousy and I hated that feeling and I hated that I felt for Isadora.
Just maybe if she wasn’t getting married to Oliver, maybe if it was some random guy out there, one I didn't know about, I would have felt better but it was Oliver and I just had some kind of hatred for him.
Luckily for him, I always manage to fight the urge to hurt him each time I’m around him or each time I see him. I let out a deep exhale and got up, sat on the desk and turned to the view from the office fourth wall and thought of how to bring an end to this, maybe seeking closure from Isadora wasn’t such a bad idea, I mean I’ve hurt her so much, no doubt she’d probably curse me for all this but then I thought I needed to clear things with her.
I grabbed the telephone and called Sloane back in and after a few seconds, she arrived at the doorstep, “Sir?” She stepped in.
“I think I’ll need you to make some adjustments to my schedule for the day, those meetings with those minor companies, I need you to reschedule them. And please cancel some of them.” I curled my face.
“Reschedule and cancel?!”
“Yes, Sloane, reschedule and cancel them all.”
“Sir—”
“There are so many minor companies reaching out to us, of course they need us to gain light and favour and also visibility too but at the same time, the bigger companies have been waiting in line for their needs to be heard, remember we aren’t running a charity organization here we’re running a very successful business.”
“Okay, sir I understand what you’re saying. What do I replace those with?” She got her pen ready to make corrections.
“I’ll be heading out now to meet with Isadora Langford, I’m not sure how long that will take. I’ll let you know when I’ll return.”
“Isadora Langford?” Her eyes grew wide.
“Yes … Isadora Langford.”
“Sir … I … okay.”
“Is there anything you want to say, Sloane?”
“N—not at all sir.” She responded.I grabbed my keys and we both walked out of the office. After a quick elevator ride, I got in the car and placed a call to Isadora. Honestly, this was impromptu and I didn’t even think she would take the call but then she finally responded, “How may I help you Charles?!” her voice sounded firm and she didn’t sound too happy at all.
“I want to meet up with you, I want us to talk.”
“I’m sorry I don’t —“
“I’ve already sent you a pin of the location, check your email.” I interrupted.
“what do you think you’re doing?!”
“Meet me there in the next thirty minutes, what I want to discuss with you is very important.” And just like that I hung up the phone and drove straight to the location and waited for her, uncertain if she would come around but I just hoped she would.
