Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Elizabeth's POV

With such a huge sum of money involved, of course I'd be nervous.

I couldn't help but speak up, "Mr. Windsor, we're talking about a three-billion-dollar deal here. This is a very significant profit for The Windsor Family. How can you just hand it all over to me?"

For a family like the Windsor Family, profit always comes first. Now the biggest opportunity is right in front of him, yet how can Alexander stay so calm?

I spread my hands at him, trying to emphasize my confusion with this gesture.

Alexander smiled slightly before saying, "What, don't you have confidence?"

Those words instantly fired up my competitive spirit. I said through gritted teeth, "Of course I have confidence. I'll prove my abilities to you. Don't underestimate me."

I touched my belly, and somehow blurted out, "Parents' genes have a huge influence on their children. The child I give birth to will definitely be the smartest child in the world. Mr. Windsor, you've really hit the jackpot."

As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized how ambiguous what I'd said was. The air instantly became suffocatingly quiet. I awkwardly looked away.

"Just pretend I was talking nonsense."

With that, I bolted out to find Jasper to discuss the cooperation.

I never did see Alexander's expression in the end - I only remember he seemed to have no reaction.

But that made sense. Of course, he wouldn't take what I said seriously.

A three billion dollar deal - good thing it didn't fall into Aiden's hands, otherwise all the crises he's currently facing would be easily resolved.

I returned to the office and restated in a polite and official tone that I would continue to be fully responsible for this cooperation.

Jasper's previously smiling expression showed a crack. He pressed his lips together and said to me, "Ms. Spencer, I've already shown such sincerity. Is Mr. Windsor still unwilling to work with me personally?"

I caught his implication and tried to reassure him, "The cooperation is indeed with The Windsor Family, just with me as the liaison."

Even though Jasper didn't say it directly, I could see strong disbelief in his eyes.

After a few seconds of silence, I heard Jasper sigh, "Ms. Spencer, I'm not saying I don't trust you, it's just that the amount is too large. You're only Mr. Windsor's assistant after all. This increases the risk for me, so I'm afraid the amount won't be this much anymore."

I felt a bit disappointed hearing this, though the amount had been suddenly increased anyway, and we hadn't signed a specific agreement yet.

Alexander's meaning was that he wasn't planning to get personally involved, so I figured I might as well just sign the contract at the original amount.

Just as I was about to speak, I hesitated and stood up saying, "Let me go discuss this with Mr. Windsor again."

After all, it was three billion dollars. Although Alexander didn't seem very excited, this wasn't a small amount, and it really wasn't something I could decide on my own.

Jasper immediately perked up when he heard this, nodding eagerly at me, his eyes nearly overflowing with anticipation.

I had no choice but to steel myself and walk toward the CEO's office again, knocking on the door once more.

Alexander was looking at documents, his brow furrowed as if he'd seen something that displeased him.

I hesitated and cleared my throat lightly, "Um, Mr. Windsor, Mr. Garcia only wants to cooperate with you. He says if I'm in charge, the amount might go back to what it was before."

After all, he was the boss. When facing Alexander, I was still somewhat intimidated, and as I spoke, I lowered my head.

Alexander looked up at me, his eyes showing some impatience.

My heart jumped.

Oh no, he must care about this money after all. Although he said he'd leave it entirely to me, this was real profit. He definitely didn't want to give it up.

It's just that this really wasn't something I could decide.

So when Alexander gave me that cold look, I could only keep my head down and pretend not to notice his bad mood.

After a while, Alexander let out a cold laugh, "I already told you, this cooperation is entirely in your hands. You decide how much."

Completely different from what I'd expected, I looked up in surprise.

Alexander's face only showed impatience, without any dissatisfaction about the cooperation itself.

I found it somewhat unbelievable.

"Mr. Windsor, that's a difference of billions of dollars. Do you really not care?"

Although the Windsor Family was huge and wealthy, not doing something that was guaranteed profit - wasn't that a bit unusual?

And was I really such a trustworthy person in Alexander's mind?

He actually left everything to me, not afraid I'd mess it up?

Alexander's lips curved slightly as he looked at me and said, "What else did you think?"

"I'll work really hard." Since Alexander said that, I had to show my commitment. I quickly agreed, "I'll go tell Mr. Garcia right away, and try to get a higher amount too."

He could give up billions without a second thought, but since this was left to me to handle, I had to work hard for it out of professional ethics.

Alexander wasn't looking at me anymore. I quietly backed out and closed the door.

Being around him was really nerve-wracking. So many times I could barely stand the cold atmosphere in the air.

Facing Jasper again, my tone became more and more confident.

"I spoke with Mr. Windsor. He means to leave it to me to handle, so the amount is still up to you to decide."

I looked at him politely, my attitude completely beyond reproach.

Jasper's initial anticipation slowly turned calm, then became a sigh.

"Alright then, since it is cooperation with The Windsor Family after all, let's make it one billion."

This price was also quite a bit higher than the initial proposal. I was quite happy and quickly contacted colleagues from the legal department to draft the contract.

Jasper sat on the other sofa, keeping his distance from me, his gaze no longer wandering over me like before.

The contract was almost finalized. Jasper and I looked it over quietly and finally signed it successfully.

Jasper suddenly spoke up, "Ms. Spencer, what's your relationship with Mr. Smith? You two were engaged before, right?"

Suddenly bringing up Aiden, I instinctively frowned, not really wanting to get involved in this kind of topic.

My family went bankrupt, and the people in elite circles changed wave after wave. Not many people knew me anymore.

By all rights, a business tycoon from abroad had no reason to care about me, let alone care about a cooperation partner he'd rejected. Yet now he was asking so directly.

I was instinctively on guard and answered, "Yes, but that's all in the past. It has nothing to do with now."

Jasper smiled, his smile carrying some deeper meaning, and said, "Yes, it's all in the past. I'm just curious, so I'm asking."

This didn't seem like simple curiosity, so I proactively asked, "Do you have new contact with Mr. Smith?"
