Chapter 63
Elizabeth's POV
Alexander's gaze stayed glued to me. I could clearly see the emotion in those deep eyes of his.
I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, but it felt somewhat dangerous.
"I just think if I go with you, people will definitely gossip. Too many people in the company are constantly watching you, and I don't want to cause you trouble."
Alexander seemed to be waiting for my explanation, so I spoke up directly and smiled at him.
"What did you say?" Alexander frowned. "You think I care about that stuff?"
It was a response I completely didn't expect, yet it was also the simplest truth.
Alexander wouldn't care about these things at all, because he was the boss of this company, and no one would actually go directly to him to say such things.
But for me, it was definitely different.
I wasn't out of danger yet, and The Windsor Family was already a dangerous place to begin with. Getting too close to Alexander would have a big impact on me.
"Elizabeth, your main purpose in getting close to me is to get revenge on Aiden, right? Now there's an opportunity. I can go after him directly."
Alexander showed no sign of getting out of the car. Instead, he started talking to me about Aiden.
I was a bit surprised, but I also understood what he meant.
Right, in this world, Alexander could do anything directly. He could easily make Aiden pay the price.
But why would Alexander bring this up to me directly?
Could he...
"Mr. Windsor, that is indeed my goal, but Aiden still has one trump card he hasn't played yet. It's not that you can't easily deal with him, I just don't want you to pay any price because of this."
The Smith family's company had lost quite a few partnerships because of my interference and might even face bankruptcy, but Aiden had a godfather.
His status in that country was no less than Alexander's current position. If we rashly targeted him, I was afraid the two sides would clash.
Although having Alexander deal with Aiden directly would certainly be satisfying, if it involved more people and led to bigger trouble, that wasn't what I wanted to see.
After all, after having this child, besides wanting to make Aiden pay the price, I had one more thing I wanted to do.
That was to safely give birth to the child—not for Alexander, but simply for myself.
This child was an accident, but also the only blood relative I had in this world.
I had to ensure he was born safely, and then provide him with the best environment I could for growing up.
Everything else, I had to calculate precisely. There absolutely couldn't be any unnecessary accidents.
Seeing my distracted look, displeasure appeared on Alexander's face. This time he got out of the car directly and impatiently threw out a sentence, "Whatever you want."
Looking at that tall figure, I wanted to say something but stopped myself, and I also felt a kind of anger.
Alexander seemed to be truly angry. He said those words on purpose, or rather, maybe he was only doing this because of the child too.
Last night in the study, perhaps I had seen it wrong. How could someone like Alexander actually care about me?
Everything was just my imagination.
Thinking of this, I finally gradually came to my senses. I checked the time and prepared to enter the company.
Anyway, it would be better to keep some distance at the company, and I had to hide the fact that I was pregnant with Alexander's child. I absolutely couldn't let other employees know.
Making up my mind, I had just gotten on the elevator when I ran into two female employees.
They looked me up and down with ill intent and deliberately squeezed me to the very back of the elevator. Once the elevator door closed, their voices were no longer restrained.
"When did The Windsor Family become like this, letting just anyone in as an employee?"
"Exactly, and she didn't even come in through normal recruitment. She became the CEO's assistant right away. Who knows what methods she used."
"People nowadays, young and don't know how to work hard on their own, just love taking shortcuts."
"She'll be discarded garbage sooner or later anyway."
The two of them mocked me back and forth. Seeing that I didn't refute a single word, their mouths were full of ridicule.
When the elevator door opened and the two were about to walk out, I directly grabbed one person with each hand.
Both were stunned. There were also several employees outside who had originally wanted to take the elevator, and they were also stunned when they saw this scene.
One of them panicked and pulled at my hand, "What are you grabbing me for? Let go of me now!"
I gripped their clothes tightly. Even though they were being pulled out of shape, I had no intention of letting go.
Looking at them, I said word by word, "Those words just now, do you dare to say them again in front of Mr. Windsor?"
I already felt inexplicably stifled in my heart, and these two people clearly knew nothing but were maliciously speculating and spreading rumors about me. They had basically hit a nerve.
They became completely panicked and pulled at my hands saying, "Let go! What do you think you're doing! Let go of me right now!"
The people outside who originally wanted to take the elevator got a bit anxious and shouted directly, "Are you using the elevator or not? If not, can you move aside?"
Without changing my expression, I pulled the two of them out. They immediately panicked.
"You're not taking us to the CEO's office, are you? I'm telling you, let go of me right now!"
"You're physically assaulting us! According to the law, I can sue you!"
Both of them looked like company veterans. They seemed to think I was someone who could be easily bullied. When I actually got serious, they still tried to intimidate me while saving face.
I forced out a smile at them and then said, "Sue me? I could sue you for defamation and insult!"
"What are you talking about? We never named names. You're just feeling guilty and taking it personally, aren't you?"
The argument attracted more onlooking colleagues. With an audience, these two people were even less likely to back down.
I was grabbing their clothes, so from an outsider's perspective, they looked like the victims.
"Let go! Let go of me!"
"Don't think you can bully people just because you're from the CEO's office, Elizabeth! Let go right now!"
The onlookers also spoke up.
"What's this about? Isn't this bullying?"
"I know this woman. She's the new assistant Mr. Windsor brought in. She actually dares to cause trouble in the company."
"Relying on Mr. Windsor's backing? As expected, I knew this woman wasn't simple. It really is that kind of relationship we were thinking of, right?"
Wave after wave of voices gradually threatened to drown me out, almost all of them condemning me, this person who had suddenly appeared by the CEO's side.
In their eyes, I was like a common enemy.
"They insulted me first. I just need an apology." I spoke neither humbly nor arrogantly.
These words were drowned out again.
"What are you talking about! No one insulted you at all!" The woman I was holding desperately defended herself. "You're just upset because we hit the truth! You're being kept by Mr. Windsor!"
