Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Elizabeth's POV

The room fell silent in an unsettling way, with everyone's eyes fixed on me.

Alexander's gaze was the most intense of them all.

"I was just joking." After a long pause, I wisely lowered my head and looked away, lacking the courage to meet his eyes again.

The manager quickly stepped in to smooth things over, "Mr. Windsor, Ms. Spencer really did go to the wrong place. It was my fault for disturbing her."

The clumsy lie could be exposed with one poke. Watching Alexander's frowning, inscrutable face, I could only pray that he would say less.

The more he said, the worse it got. Couldn't he tell something was off?

Someone as smart as Alexander must have known from the start that I was lying. If he kept talking, it would only make him angry.

Before Alexander's anger could descend, I gritted my teeth and hooked my arm through his, forcing a dry laugh, "Don't worry about it, let's just go."

We couldn't stay there any longer!

Fortunately, Alexander cooperated unexpectedly, letting me pull him into the CEO's private elevator.

As the elevator doors closed, I finally breathed a sigh of relief and let go of him.

"Why didn't you let me let go just now? So many people saw us, they're definitely going to get the wrong idea."

My intention was just to get Alexander away from that place, but as soon as we left, other employees spotted us.

Several women looked at me like they wanted to tear me apart.

Alexander said nothing. I gathered my courage to look at him, "You know how attractive you are in the company, right? Standing next to you just makes other women jealous, which is really bad for me."

The elevator doors opened. Alexander glanced at me coolly and snorted, pulling me out of the elevator, "Do you think you'll be in danger by my side?"

As senior staff members were about to look our way, I quickly pulled away from him, pressing my lips together and stepping aside.

Using my actions to prove that in public places, I refused to be overly intimate with him.

Alexander frowned ever so slightly, but fortunately didn't target me.

That was, until we entered the office and the door slammed shut. Alexander grabbed my wrist and pinned me against the door.

I winced in pain, struggling to push him away, but his strength was so great I couldn't move at all.

"Elizabeth, you still haven't answered my question from earlier."

His low voice came from above. The grip on my wrist tightened even more, the pain spreading to my chest.

A sense of danger arose spontaneously. I could only comply for now, "Don't get worked up, whatever you want to say, let's talk it through slowly."

The question Alexander was referring to now—was it about what I said in the office downstairs?

I looked up at that handsome, deep face, carefully choosing my words, "I only said that because I was embarrassed."

"They thought I deliberately appeared by your side to seduce you, like some bad woman. They said a lot of things to provoke me, so I snapped back at them. I didn't expect you to hear it."

His frown deepened, as if he was extremely dissatisfied with this answer.

I bit my lip and continued, "Really, I'm not lying. But I only said that in the heat of the moment. I don't have those kinds of feelings for you, please rest assured."

The pressure on my wrist finally loosened a bit, but Alexander still didn't let me go. He even extended one leg to press against mine.

"What are you doing?"

The intimate contact made me tremble uncontrollably. I quickly spoke up, "Alexander, I'm still carrying your child! Let me go!"

In those deep, bottomless eyes, I could now clearly see intense desire.

Alexander really seemed like he was going to do something to me.

He laughed coldly and let me go directly.

Released, my body instantly went limp, and I slid down to sit on the floor.

Alexander wasn't just a dangerous person, he was also an unpredictable man whose moods were impossible to read.

If I wanted to gain my freedom, I had to be careful around him, even humor him.

"You're just the mother of my child. Don't develop any unnecessary feelings for me."

I was stunned.

What? I looked at him in confusion, watching the seriousness on his face, and couldn't help swallowing.

I hadn't misunderstood—Alexander thought I would fall in love with him? Cling to him?

Wasn't this kind of thing usually said by other people? I'd never seen this kind of seemingly narcissistic behavior from Alexander before.

I steadied myself against the door and stood up, putting on an equally serious expression, "Mr. Windsor, you don't need to worry about that at all. We have no emotional foundation. I won't fall in love with a stranger. My concern for you comes purely from the child in my belly, and from the fact that you can help me better get revenge on Aiden. That's all."

Since Alexander had concerns in this area, I might as well spell it out even more clearly. After all, these were my true feelings.

As my words fell, Alexander suddenly went silent.

That handsome face held various suppressed emotions. While I couldn't read them clearly, I also understood they weren't something I could easily touch.

So I proactively turned my back. "Those two people just now should be spies your uncle sent to watch you, but those two seem to treat it as a simple concern. They have no malice or threat toward you."

Business still needed to be discussed, but I just didn't want to look at Alexander's terrifyingly cold face.

However, the next second, a large hand grabbed my arm and yanked me backward.

I nearly lost my footing and was startled.

"What are you doing!"

Alexander's expression was even colder than before. He gripped my hand, "My uncle? What do you know?"

That face looked like it could devour someone. I quickly pushed him away. "Of course, I don't know anything. I only know what your employees told me. All I know now is that your uncle's name is Carter. Alexander, what are you doing?"

His grip was even tighter than before. I could completely feel the fluctuation in his emotions.

Were these emotions because of Carter?

But what did this look—like he was looking at an enemy—mean?

"Alexander, let me go, you're hurting me!" I pushed against him, trying to break free as quickly as possible.

My voice grew weak and powerless, and he finally let me go.

I endured the pain and went to sit on the sofa, gently rubbing where he'd grabbed me.

This man! He really was terrible!

I needed to use him to strike at Aiden as soon as possible, and preferably not stay by his side any longer!

He stood there, still maintaining his original posture. I couldn't make out the expression on his face.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

Charles's unexpectedly serious voice came through slowly, "Mr. Windsor, Mr. Carter Windsor is here. He's already in the elevator."

I was shocked.

Mr. Windsor? Carter?
