Chapter 24

Chapter 24
Elizabeth's POV

I never imagined that in such a critical moment, the only person I could think of turning to would be him.

The car sped along, and we arrived at the hospital in no time.

I stared at my phone screen, no reply. My heart sank.

Reaching out to Alex was just a desperate attempt on my part. Whether he'd respond was entirely up to him.

Maybe I'd overestimated my place in his heart. Even if he really didn't care about me, there was nothing I could do.

"Stop struggling!"

The strange man roughly grabbed me, trying to drag me out of the car. I gripped the seat tightly, refusing to move.

Fortunately, I'd hidden my phone beforehand, and he hadn't found it yet.

"If you don't get out, I'll knock you out and carry you."

His threat worked. I had no choice but to give in, following behind him toward that familiar hospital room.

It was the same place where Aiden had sent someone to hurt me last time. Looked like he'd finally decided to stop holding back.

"Aiden sent you, didn't he?"

On the way to the room, I tried to stay calm and strike up a conversation, hoping to get some information out of him.

He completely ignored me, not bothering to say a single word.

This reaction was expected, but I stubbornly kept trying, "Aren't you afraid of getting in trouble doing this kind of thing for Aiden?"

"If something happens to me, do you think you'll get away with it?"

The man's expression clearly darkened. My words seemed to be working, his steps slowed down.

"Shut up!" He suddenly turned around and growled at me.

I jumped, but took the chance to slow down even more, buying time.

"Move faster!" He was getting more and more impatient, looking like he might get physical any second.

"What's taking you so long?" Aiden's voice came from nearby. He was standing at the hospital room door, shouting at us.

I froze, not expecting him to show himself so quickly. I watched as he strode toward us.

He grabbed my arm, his face showing undisguised urgency, "Quick, we need to get you checked right away to see if your body can handle the surgery."

The words slipped out instinctively. My heart tightened as I stared at him and asked, "What do you mean?"

Only then did Aiden realize he'd let something slip. He looked at me in surprise and quickly changed his tune, "I'm just so worried about your health. I want to get you a complete checkup. Is that not okay?"

I glanced behind him to make sure no one else was there, then gathered my courage to shake off his hand and demanded, "Grandma and I were doing just fine at home, but you sent a stranger to force me here. Aiden, what exactly are you trying to do?"

It was late at night, and the hospital was already quiet. Even if he really wanted to check my health, choosing this time was way too suspicious.

Aiden really did want to hurt me, he was just still pretending otherwise.

"Elizabeth, what are you suspecting me of?"

Aiden crossed his arms, looking me up and down with an examining gaze. "You seem pretty energetic. Looks like you've been taking good care of yourself."

The undisguised danger in his eyes made my heart race.

If I'd been taking good care of myself, was he about to make his move?

"What are you talking about?" I pretended not to understand. My hand was grabbed again, and this time, Aiden dragged me inside without giving me a choice.

The hospital really was empty at this hour, and Aiden seemed to have deliberately cleared the area. He shoved me into the elevator and took me upstairs without any hesitation.

Arriving at that familiar floor, I immediately spotted Bianca, her face pale.

She was sitting on a bench in the hallway waiting. She stood up when she heard us approaching.

"Aiden..."

Before she could finish, Aiden rushed over to support her, his tone both reproachful and tender, "Bianca, why are you sitting out here? Didn't I tell you to rest in your room?"

His caring attitude was completely different from how he'd just treated me, he seemed gentle enough to melt.

This alone was enough to show where Aiden's heart truly lay.

He really loved Bianca.

"I didn't want to be alone in the room." Bianca clung to Aiden's arm affectionately, then turned her gaze to me. "Ms. Spencer, let me thank you in advance."

Aiden's face stiffened. He immediately said to me, "Don't read too much into this. You know Bianca's health isn't good. Hurry up, go lie down over there! I'll have a doctor come do a detailed examination."

I frowned, now completely certain that he planned to make his move tonight.

Still no reply on my phone. If Alex really wasn't going to help me, I probably wouldn't be leaving this hospital today.

"Aiden, are you really just trying to check my health?" I clenched my fists, my voice trembling uncontrollably.

Should I confront him now? But there was nothing around that could help me.

If I completely set Aiden off, I'd only get hurt worse.

"What are you talking about?" Aiden walked over, sounding very impatient, as if blaming me for wasting his time.

I stared straight at him, "I don't need you to check my health. I'm leaving now."

"Stop right there!" Aiden grabbed my arm, his voice cold as ice, "You think you're walking out of here today?"

Looking at the vicious expression on his face, I laughed coldly, "What, done pretending? Aiden, you've been cheating with Bianca all along, haven't you? Still won't admit it?"

The word cheating clearly struck a nerve. Aiden's face instantly darkened as he said viciously, "What are you talking about? Elizabeth, we're not even married yet!"

"True, but I'm pregnant with your child right now! Are you planning to hurt me along with the baby in my belly? Are you even human?"

With my life on the line, I had nothing left to worry about. I shook off his hand forcefully, my mind racing to figure out how to escape.

"Elizabeth!" Aiden was completely enraged. He advanced on me, the coldness in his eyes turning to murderous intent.

Those were the eyes of someone who wanted me dead.

"If I disappear, everyone will trace it back to your people bringing me to this hospital. Aiden, before you try anything, you'd better think about the consequences."

At the party, the story of Aiden protecting Bianca had already spread everywhere. If something happened to me, public opinion would naturally point to him.

With no one to save me, I could only take this gamble.

Aiden walked toward me step by step. Just as his hand was about to grab me, two people suddenly rushed out from behind me, restraining me on either side.

I thought they were Aiden's people who couldn't wait any longer and screamed in fear. But when I looked up, I saw that Aiden himself looked completely shocked, as if he had no idea where these two people had come from.
