Chapter 184
Chapter 184
She was filled with worry, afraid that Betty might misunderstand, but she had no idea that Betty's heart had never once rippled with misunderstanding.
Even after hearing her words, Betty didn't pause as she went upstairs, entering her room under everyone's gaze.
Veda glanced at Elara and asked, "Is Mr. Evans not coming home tonight?"
Elara picked up her fork and couldn't help but say sarcastically, "More than just not coming home!"
After dinner and a bath, Elara stood outside Betty's door for a long time.
But she still didn't knock, instead turning back to her own room.
She actually had her own place and hadn't planned to come here.
It was just that she happened to run into Adrian when getting off work.
She thought he was coming home, but found out he was going to a club instead.
She had reminded Adrian not to make things look so bad, and not to go too far.
Unfortunately, Adrian wouldn't listen at all, even asking if she wanted to come along.
She refused him coldly on the spot, but Adrian just waved at her and drove off.
She couldn't believe he wasn't doing this on purpose.
So she was a bit worried about Betty, which was why she unconsciously drove to Adrian's villa.
But Betty seemed completely unconcerned about Adrian, and she couldn't help thinking.
What was the point of all this?
Adrian really didn't come home that night. The day after he announced his marriage to Betty at the Wright Group, Adrian gave the media an explosive sex scandal.
Elara got up early, and Betty had also changed into her work suit. When she came downstairs, she took the initiative to greet her. "Morning."
Elara took a sip of soy milk and looked at her. "Morning."
Veda secretly glanced at Betty.
After Betty sat down, Elara said directly, "Your husband made the news."
Betty took a sip of coffee and looked up at her.
Elara pushed her phone toward her.
Betty had no choice but to look down at it.
In the photo, Adrian had his arm around a woman as they left the club and went straight to a hotel. The paparazzi's headline was even more eye-catching.
They were all shameless headlines designed to grab attention.
Titles like #Adrian cheats openly on his wedding night, completely disregarding his new bride, and #Why did Adrian and Betty really get married were actually the nicer ones.
Betty glanced at it and pushed the phone back.
Elara watched her expression. "Aren't you angry?"
Betty paused, then looked up at her. "Why would I be angry?"
Not coming home on their wedding night, going to a hotel with another woman—it was completely trampling Betty's dignity into the ground.
Wasn't she even a little bit angry?
"I'm not angry," Betty said calmly.
Even Veda couldn't help but look at her again. Even in an arranged marriage with no feelings between the couple, when one party did something like this, it was clearly trampling on and humiliating the other.
But Betty acted like nothing had happened, as if she truly didn't care at all.
After hearing her answer, Elara didn't know what to say.
Betty calmly finished breakfast before glancing at her. "I'm done eating. Take your time. I'm heading to the office."
Elara had nothing to say and could only watch helplessly as she left.
Yesterday's sudden announcement of Betty and Adrian's marriage meant that this morning, all the department managers came to the office early for the regular meeting.
Betty had just parked and was about to get out when she saw Adrian's car drive past her.
She looked away, pushed open the car door, got out, locked the car, and headed straight for the elevator entrance without even looking back.
But this was peak time, and the elevator was still on an upper floor, so even she had to wait.
The Wright Group didn't have a CEO-only elevator. There used to be one, but Betty had canceled it and opened it up for everyone to use, to help people not rush so much during the morning peak.
She quietly watched the floor numbers slowly descending, and footsteps sounded behind her.
It sounded like one person's footsteps.
But she still didn't turn around.
Until someone put an arm around her shoulder, and Adrian's casual voice sounded in her ear. "Honey, did you sleep well last night?"
Betty's expression didn't change. She turned to look at Adrian beside her and said calmly. "Pretty well."
Adrian leaned closer to her face and looked carefully for a few seconds. "Sounds like the truth. Sleeping alone in an empty room and still sleeping so well—you are really something."
Betty didn't speak, but she didn't push him away either. After all, they were husband and wife now.
"Mrs. Evans, hello. I'm Mr. Evans's assistant, Ernest Torres."
Betty glanced at Ernest. "Ernest, at the office, call me Ms. Wright."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "Mrs. Evans doesn't sound good?"
The elevator door opened just then, and Betty walked right in, avoiding his touch.
"I prefer to keep work and personal life separate." After saying this, she held the door button and looked at Adrian and Ernest outside. "Mr. Evans, are you waiting for the next one?"
Adrian looked at her calm, indifferent face and smiled slightly, then walked into the elevator.
Ernest glanced at Betty and Adrian, pushed up his glasses, and stood further back.
Betty kept watching the changing numbers, while Adrian kept watching her.
Adrian's gaze was hard to ignore, but Betty pretended not to notice.
Until the elevator opened, Betty was about to walk out when Adrian grabbed her wrist and pushed her against the wall.
Seeing this, Ernest nodded to Betty and Adrian and walked out of the elevator.
Betty's brow furrowed slightly, and she had to look up at him.
Adrian looked down at her, then lifted her chin. Neither Betty nor Adrian spoke.
As if there was nothing to say.
But when Betty sensed his intention, her brow furrowed tightly, and the indifference in her eyes gradually turned to resistance.
Seeing him getting closer and closer, Betty finally spoke up to remind him, "We are in the office!"
"So what?"
Betty pressed her red lips together, knowing he was doing this on purpose, but she still calmly reminded him. "There's a morning meeting today. We're going to be late."
Adrian reached up to tuck the short hair by her ear, slowly moving closer and saying in a low voice, "Then let them wait."
Betty looked at him quietly for a few seconds. "What exactly do you want?"
"I like your hair long. Grow it out again."
Betty didn't want to argue with him over something like this. Hair length didn't matter. She had cut it short to change her mood, and to remind herself of her current situation every time she looked in the mirror, to keep herself clear-headed and calm.
"Got it. Can you let me go now?"
"Not yet."
Betty was silent for a few seconds before looking at him. "Adrian."
Adrian twirled her hair around his finger while smiling. "Call me honey ."
Betty's expression grew colder, and she never opened her mouth.
Adrian seemed very patient, waiting for her to speak. "Can't say it or don't want to?"
Betty turned her head slightly away, making it clear she wouldn't say it.
Adrian wasn't annoyed. He leaned close to her ear and said, "If you don't want to say it, then how about we make up for what didn't happen last night?"
Betty's heart suddenly jumped. "You..."
Adrian pressed the elevator button, and the door opened the next second.
Outside were Ernest and Elara.
Seeing Betty and Adrian come out, Elara breathed a sigh of relief. "I went in to wait for you guys."
