Chapter 280 Huge Insurance Policy
Chapter 280 Huge Insurance Policy
"Ethan!" Richard shot him a look, signaling him to stop talking.
Gordon's expression was just as grim, but he chose to remain silent.
The way others looked at Ethan had changed. There was fear in their eyes, along with a barely contained wariness.
If someone who could turn on his own family came into power, would any of them feel safe?
"How can you talk like that? Daniel is your uncle!"
"This kid has had no sense of boundaries since he was little. Now that he's grown up, he cares even less about family."
"Ryan is more reliable. At least he knows where the line is."
Ryan listened to these comments and quickly lowered his eyes, hiding his emotions. But the faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth gave him away. When he looked up again, his voice was already thick with emotion.
"Ethan, my dad is your elder no matter what. How can you say things like that?"
"Uncle, you shouldn't make excuses for Ethan either. He didn't post that bounty to find someone. Otherwise, how would my dad have died?"
"Your dad jumped from a building. Of course he died. What, did you think he was Spider-Man?"
Ethan leaned back in his chair, his tone dripping with undisguised sarcasm.
"You!"
Before Ryan could fire back, Ethan pressed on.
"When he reported me in Liora, he wasn't just trying to send me to prison. During those few days, the company was frozen, and we lost four or five major deals."
Ethan's gaze swept across the room with a trace of amusement before finally settling on Delbert Loomis, the manager of Liora's branch.
"Everyone here holds shares. How much did you all actually lose? Mr. Loomis, why don't you tell them?"
All eyes turned to Delbert.
He adjusted his glasses, his tone steady.
"We lost four orders total, resulting in 300 million dollars in losses."
"There's also one order that was only half completed. We didn't receive the 10 million dollar final payment."
The air suddenly grew tense.
Business had been tough these past few years. Losses on this scale weren't something anyone could easily brush off.
Ethan clicked his tongue softly. "And that's just the Liora side. I haven't even factored in the losses in Kyrandor yet."
With that statement, no one in the conference room dared to speak.
When their own interests were at stake, family ties and human lives were pushed to the back.
Ryan narrowed his eyes. "Even so, did you have to kill my dad over a woman?"
He pressed his hands against the table, staring Ethan down.
"Back then, to chase Hannah, you insisted on partnering with Lumora Biotech Inc. Was crappy company even worth it?"
"You poured so much money into it. Did you get any of it back?"
"This time, my dad just wanted to talk to Hannah, and you posted a bounty to have him killed. Ethan, you murderer, you playboy. Are all our lives as relatives worth less than your girlfriends?"
Ryan's speech was clearly twisting the facts, trying to steer the conversation elsewhere. But no one present spoke up.
This was a head-on clash between the two heirs of the Lawson family. No one wanted to take sides right now.
Richard was about to speak when Gordon raised a hand to stop him. Gordon simply shook his head, then continued watching Ryan and Ethan across the table.
Ryan's eyes were red, as if he'd suffered some terrible injustice.
Ethan still looked casually unimpressed, but something in his gaze had shifted—colder now, sharper.
Ethan's phone buzzed. A new message popped up, from Hannah.
Hannah: [Daniel bought accident insurance in Kyrandor, Liora, and Havaland a month ago, totaling 200 million dollars.]
Below were several photos of insurance contracts, all accidental death policies, with Ryan listed as the beneficiary.
Ryan was still pressing Ethan across the table, but Ethan suddenly smiled.
"What are you smiling at? You think this is funny?" Ryan slammed his hand on the table.
"You killed my father. I'm going to get justice!"
"If we're talking about justice, the shareholders should speak first."
Ethan raised his head, still smiling.
"Your dad left the company in a mess this big. You can't expect all of us to pay for it, can you?"
"You handed all your so-called evidence to Grandpa. What about compensation?"
Ethan extended his hand, casually beckoning with his fingers.
"Your dad bought 200 million dollars in accidental death insurance. Pretty good at planning ahead. The waiting period had just ended, and the next day he's dead. The timing reads like a script."
"Two hundred million isn't much, but considering we're all family, I'll say you showed some sincerity."
"Stop talking nonsense! How could my dad do that?" Ryan's voice was laced with panic.
Only the two of them knew about Daniel buying the insurance. Ryan had repeatedly warned the insurance agents to keep it absolutely confidential. Ryan had also confirmed the end of the waiting period before Daniel spent a large sum to grease the wheels and return to the country.
How could Ethan possibly know?
Ryan's loss of control didn't escape Ethan's notice. Ethan tapped on his phone a few times. The next second, the conference room's big screen lit up, displaying several insurance policies.
All of them were high-value policies, with coverage maxed out.
"Ryan, your dad was planning to die. He knew he'd end up in prison if he were caught, so he arranged all of this in advance."
Ethan picked up his coffee and took a sip. "You signed several of these policies yourself, right?"
Everyone stared at the big screen. The room fell into a painful silence.
The version they'd heard at first was that Daniel had only wanted to come back and clear things up with Hannah, asking her to stop using the Harvey family's influence to help Ethan suppress him.
But Daniel hadn't expected Ethan to be so ruthless as to go straight for his life.
In Ryan's version, Ethan was someone with no boundaries when it came to family, and Hannah was his accomplice.
He had painted them as the worst kind of pair: one a rich kid who lived for pleasure and never took responsibility, the other a long-lost "insider" who returned only to turn around and seize the Harvey family's assets.
If those two stood on the same side, even if only temporarily joining forces, no one else in the Lawson family could expect peaceful days.
But now, who couldn't see through it? Daniel and Ryan had orchestrated a scheme, even buying insurance in advance.
Ryan saw the signatures on the screen and instinctively shook his head.
"No... impossible. How could you get these?"
He turned to glare at Ethan, his eyes blazing with anger. Then, as if suddenly realizing something, he abruptly pointed across the room.
"It's that Hannah, isn't it? It must be her!"
"That bitch."
"Everyone, Ethan and Hannah are trying yo destroy me! You absolutely can't believe them!"
Ryan was truly panicking. Ethan alone had been hard enough to deal with, and now Hannah was in the mix as well. He couldn't help but regret that Daniel hadn't been ruthless enough, he failed to take Ethan down and couldn't even handle a single Hannah.
The more Ryan panicked, the more the older shareholders — who had originally intended to support him — fell silent.
Rocco frowned deeply, feeling utterly humiliated.
Suddenly, his phone screen lit up. He glanced at it briefly, and a flicker of delight immediately appeared in his eyes. When he looked up again, that trace of unease had vanished, replaced by unmistakable gloating.
"This Ms. Nguyen really does have some skills. She clearly can't have children anymore, yet she still manages to keep Ethan wrapped around her finger."
"Ethan, are you really going to go against your entire family for a woman like that?"
