Chapter 251
Chapter 251
Gerald rushed into the emergency stairwell, his trembling hands dialing Amanda's number.
The moment the call connected, he hissed through gritted teeth: "How are your preparations coming along?! Augustus secretly moved Victoria! I'm worried about complications—you need to execute the next phase immediately! We have to muddy the waters completely!"
Amanda's cold, triumphant laughter echoed from the other end: "What's the rush, Mr. Gerald Rivera? The show will begin first thing tomorrow morning."
The next day dawned bright and clear.
In the back garden of the Jenkins Estate, Augustus and David sat across from each other at a stone table with a chess set between them. The two powerful men appeared relaxed, engaged in a silent battle across the board.
"That's a risky move," David said with a smile, placing his piece and reaching for his teacup.
Augustus fingered a chess piece, a glint of calculation in his eyes. "If we don't give him some bait, how will he reveal his true nature?"
Just then, Augustus's phone on the table began buzzing urgently.
The caller ID showed it was the hospital.
Augustus and David exchanged a meaningful glance. Augustus answered and put it on speaker.
"Mr. Augustus Rivera!" The hospital director's voice carried extreme excitement, crystal clear in the quiet garden. "We found her! A young lady came to the hospital today with proof of identity. We just ran an emergency comparison—the genetic database shows a perfect match! She's Ms. Delilah Rivera's biological daughter!"
Augustus's hand holding the chess piece froze.
He took a deep breath and instantly summoned Oscar-worthy acting skills, his voice trembling dramatically: "What... what did you say?! You found her?! Where is she?!"
"She's in the VIP consultation room at the hospital! Please come quickly!"
"Yes! I'll be right there! Keep her there—don't let her leave!"
After hanging up, the excitement in Augustus's eyes instantly faded, replaced by cold mockery.
He stood and straightened his suit jacket.
"Let's go, David." Augustus smiled coldly. "Time to see who's taking the stage now."
Thirty minutes later, Augustus's convoy screeched to a halt in front of the hospital.
Surrounded by bodyguards, he put on a performance of desperate urgency and overwhelming emotion, stumbling toward the top-floor VIP consultation room.
The consultation room doors burst open.
"My child! Where is my child?!" Augustus's voice was hoarse with apparent anguish.
In the spacious room, a woman in a white dress sat on the sofa, styled to look gentle and vulnerable.
Hearing the commotion, she slowly stood and turned, her eyes slightly red as she looked at Augustus, calling out timidly: "Uncle..."
The moment Augustus saw that face, his pupils contracted slightly, and his steps froze.
It was Amanda.
"Uncle..." Amanda's eyes brimmed with tears, the pitiful expression a complete transformation from her formerly arrogant demeanor.
She clutched what appeared to be an expertly crafted replica of a wooden hair clip, her knuckles white with tension.
The hospital director hurried forward, presenting a freshly printed DNA report with both hands, his voice full of flattery and excitement: "Mr. Rivera, there's no mistake! We extracted Ms. Martinez's DNA and compared it with the data you left in our genetic database—it's a perfect match! Ms. Martinez is Delilah's biological daughter!"
"That's right, Dad." A warm voice came from behind Amanda.
Gerald had somehow appeared in the consultation room, wearing an impeccable suit and the perfect smile of satisfaction. He stepped forward to support Augustus's arm: "It's truly God's blessing. Who would have thought Amanda was actually my long-lost cousin? I even had some misunderstandings with Amanda before, but now I see we're all family. Dad, you've searched for Aunt Delilah all these years—today your wish finally comes true."
Augustus looked down at the black-and-white DNA report in his hands, inwardly sneering.
If he hadn't already reunited with Sophia and Robert, if he didn't have the real evidence in his possession, he might actually have been fooled by these two monsters today!
Augustus suppressed his murderous intent, his clouded eyes instantly filling with tears.
His hands trembled as he held the report, his gaze studying Amanda's face repeatedly, yet he hesitated to acknowledge her.
"No... this can't be right." Augustus suddenly shook his head, his eyes flashing with convincing resistance and doubt. He jerked his arm away from Gerald's support, his voice hoarse: "How is this possible? How could Amanda be Delilah's daughter? There must be some mistake! I don't believe it!"
He slammed the report on the table, his tone brooking no argument: "We're going somewhere else! I don't trust this hospital's equipment. We'll go to another hospital immediately and retest! I want to supervise personally!"
At these words, the grievance on Amanda's face instantly froze, panic flashing in her eyes.
Gerald's heart sank like a stone.
Go somewhere else?
If Augustus insisted on going to the Williams family or Jenkins family hospitals, their carefully forged DNA samples would never hold up! Benjamin and David would strip them down to the bone!
Cold sweat broke out on Gerald's back as his mind raced.
He quickly grabbed Augustus's arm, putting on a soothing expression: "Dad, don't get upset. I know you care too much about Aunt Delilah—you're afraid of false hope. Since you don't trust the equipment here, we can certainly go elsewhere."
He paused, his gaze seemingly casually sweeping over Amanda before continuing smoothly: "However, other hospitals might have too many prying eyes. If word gets out, it wouldn't be good for Amanda's reputation. How about... we go to the Martinez family's private hospital? The Martinez family has had some recent troubles, but their medical equipment is absolutely top-tier, and they're all Amanda's people—complete confidentiality guaranteed. What do you think?"
Amanda immediately caught on, nodding cooperatively as she squeezed out more tears: "Uncle, if you're not comfortable, we can certainly use my family's hospital. I just want to prove my identity—I would never make things difficult for you."
Augustus watched their disgusting performance, his inner mockery nearly spilling over.
Go to the Martinez family hospital? That would be walking straight into the lion's den, letting them fabricate whatever results they wanted.
But he put on the appearance of being persuaded, frowning in apparent contemplation for a moment before finally sighing in resignation and nodding: "Fine, we'll do as you suggest—the Martinez family hospital. If the results still match... I promise to bring you home with all the honor you deserve!"
