Chapter 90 CHAPTER 90
Chapter 90 CHAPTER 90
Aurora’s POV
I found out a little too late that it’s been a while since I did my laundry. I find myself in this situation early in the morning and now I have to make do with whatever I have. In this case, I pick the blood-stained sweater which I stopped wearing a while ago. No matter how much washing I give it, the blood doesn’t wipe out completely.
I pick the sweater up with a sigh. A brief look at the wall clock strengthens my sense of urgency. I will have to leave now to meet up with Andrew on time.
I rush outside and lock the door urgently. As I take my first two steps outside, I hear Jayden’s cry inside. I realize I have forgotten him in the process of reaching my workplace urgently. What kind of mother am I? Even though I’m not that smart, how could I forget the very reason I worked so hard? I open the door and hold Jayden in my arms, comforting him. He stops crying and I step out with him as we head to the daycare.
A new assistant has been employed by the daycare and she is the one who takes Jayden from me today. As I attempt to leave, she calls me back. She is hesitant to talk and I wonder why.
“Actually…” she begins to say, her head low. “You won’t be late today, will you?”
“What do you mean?” I ask, unable to understand what she meant.
“I mean… you have been coming lately to pick up Jayden. Ah, the staff members have to wait longer than they should and err… Will you come a little early, please?” she manages to say. From her tone and facial expression, I can tell someone put her up to this. They could simply tell me, why do they have to make it a job for the new girl?
I smile weakly.
“Thank you for bringing my attention to that. I won’t be late today,” I say. “Keep up the good work and thank you once again.”
She nods and I walk away. I know I have been late but it has just been this week. But then, if I had kept them waiting indeed, they certainly had the right to be angry. I will have to be firm with Andrew today. I must leave the moment my time is up.
Andrew is already there when I reach his workspace. He stares at me the moment I enter. He didn’t gaze and look away, his gaze remains intact to the point where it makes me uncomfortable.
“Is there something on my face?” I ask, touching my face in the process.
“No,” he replies bluntly. “But that sweater… you wore it today.”
“Ah, yes,” I mutter. “I forgot to do my laundry so I ran out of things to wear and…”
I stop explaining. I mean, I really don’t have a reason to tell him why I wear clothes that belong to me. After all, my job wasn’t relating to clothes, I was literally nude whenever I worked with him.
Andrew doesn’t stop staring at me. It gets tiring at some point.
“Can we start work for today?” I ask. He doesn’t reply so I continue, “I have to leave on time today. The people at the daycare want me to come early from now on.”
I realize I have begun to explain again. I could just tell him I had to go on time, I didn’t need to tell him the reason. I decided to keep shut from now on. If I don’t, I might end up telling him everything about my life.
“Right, we should start work,” Andrew nods and begins to get ready. I looked at what he was working on and it didn’t seem any different from how it was when I left.
“Didn’t you continue after I left yesterday?” I ask calmly.
“No, I couldn’t,” he replies dryly. “I think I am only inspired whenever you’re around.”
Call me vain but what he just said made me feel important. Maybe more important than I actually was. I find myself blushing in the corner.
“We will work on your scars today,” Andrew says, dusting his apron.
I fold my arms, “They are not scars!”
“Right, they are stretch marks. I forgot again,” he replies, obviously teasing me.
I sigh. He never listens to me.
“I will get ready.”
I got off work early today and arrived just in time to pick Jayden. I look around for the assistant who told me to pick him up early but she is nowhere to be found. The Chinese caretaker, Mrs. Chen, is the one I see. She looks surprised to see me.
“I was going to call you after I had wrapped things up here,” Mrs. Chen says as she approaches me.
“About what?” I ask. I can guess it was about my lateness early.
“About Jayden, of course. He has never missed a day at the daycare until today. Is he sick or something? I hope he isn’t,” Mrs. Chen asks curiously.
Maybe I didn’t hear that well.
“What are you saying?” I ask, faking a smile. “I brought Jayden to the daycare today. I am actually here to pick him up.”
A worried expression spreads on Mrs. Chen’s face.
“But you didn’t bring him. I checked earlier while taking attendance and Jayden wasn’t here,” she tells me calmly.
“You must be joking,” I pushed her aside and headed inside. I look around, looking for Jayden with my heart pounding. I look around but he isn’t here. My vision begins to grow weak and I am sweating profusely despite the cold.
“Are you sure you brought him? Are you sure you didn’t leave him at home?” Mrs. Chen asks weakly.
“I don’t have dementia!” I shout at her, filled with rage. “I brought Jayden here today and your new assistant took him inside. I saw it with my own eyes! Bring out my son right now else I will…”
“But I didn’t hire a new assistant,” Mrs. Chen mutters.
“What!” I exclaim. I staggered a bit and the next moment, everything went dark.
