Chapter 102 CHAPTER 102
Chapter 102 CHAPTER 102
Andrew’s POV
“If you can’t tell me things that bother you, who else can you tell?” she asks me enthusiastically. She holds my hand and mutters, “We are lovers, Andrew. Don’t you ever forget that.”
Cassandra and I, have we ever been lovers? Our relationship didn’t start because we fell in love, at least not on my end. It is a promise between families. Does that still make us lovers?
“You are right,” I reply with a false smile. “I should tell you things like this often.”
“Good. So tell me why you guys ended up fighting? What was the actual cause?” she asks, leaning even closer.
“Does it matter? You will support me no matter what, won’t you?” I ask her, eager to end the conversation.
“Of course, I will. It doesn’t matter if you were actually at fault. I will stand by you always,” she tells me in an eager manner. She must want to please me with her words.
I simply smile at her as I say, “Since you’ll support me no matter what, how about I tell you the full story later? I am exhausted right now and what I’ve heard from mom and dad gives me a headache. Could you…”
“I understand. You should rest up,” she suggests, smiling.
She walks out of the room now and this brings an end to the night’s impromptu visits. If there is one thing I have learned tonight, it is that smiles and apologies will fix things faster than proving you’re right. Since humans want their egos massaged, I might as well play along with them and save myself the stress of over-explaining.
“Right thigh, lift higher,” I commanded.
I use a commanding tone today with Aurora. Whatever issue we have outside, we are supposed to be professional when it comes to work. I am still working on her stretch marks and I find myself performing below normal. Maybe it’s because I’m in a foul mood.
She shakes and struggles to keep herself together. The position must be hard for her, it’s not as if she’s one who does yoga on a normal day. However, I do not suggest a simpler position for her. I will get my job done without caring for her comfort.
However, this backfires as I can’t seem to get into my drawing. No matter how hard I try, I can’t get comfortable while knowing she’s not.
“Enough!” I ordered her to stop. She stops, still sweating profusely. I feel guilty but then, it’s not as if I want to punish her intentionally. Caring for her, I ask, “Are you okay? You can tell me if the position is too hard for you.”
“It’s my job,” she replies flatly, showing no emotions. “I think I can handle that much.”
I nod slightly, “Let’s wrap it up for today.”
“But it isn’t time yet…” she mutters, looking at the wall clock.
“If I say leave, you should leave,” I shout at her. I have overreacted once more. In a calmer voice, I mutter, “Your work is done here, Aurora. You can go.”
She begins to pick up her stuff. I go to the kitchen to get a bottle of water for myself. I drink and take deep breaths to keep my temper under control. Since yesterday, that’s how it has been. Sudden mood swings… from feeling guilty to exploding in anger. It’s not as if I’m a menstruating woman.
By the time I come out of the kitchen, Aurora is nowhere to be found. I ran outside to check and there she was, entering a taxi. I watch the taxi leave with her and I enter inside, feeling down.
I won’t be able to hold it together, not for long.
They say troubles come in bundles and I tell you, that’s so damn right. I receive a call from my new secretary, Taylor, and as expected, he doesn’t have good news for me.
“We were sued, boss. It is a joint action by seven groups; five organizations and two influential people. We are accused of illegal data collection and selling that data to people of questionable backgrounds,” Taylor says, panicking.
“What data did we collect? How?” I ask, trying to comprehend what is happening right now.
“It’s with our latest social media app. The app, although launched nine months ago, has grown so big that it’s mentioned among the top five social media apps in Europe. The app…” Taylor tries to explain.
“I know that as well,” I cut in.
“Then you should come here immediately. An urgent meeting has been called,” Taylor informs me.
I am taken aback for a moment.
“I am the CEO. Am I not supposed to be the one who calls urgent meetings? What is this about?” I ask, confused.
“The chairman called the meeting,” Taylor answers. “He will be at the meeting as well. That’s why you should come quickly.”
“My dad is there?” I ask, still shocked. “How did he find out before I did?”
“I’m not sure but that’s the case right now,” he mutters. “You have to get here in twenty minutes, boss. It won’t look good if you are absent or if you come late.”
“Don’t boss me around. I will be there,” I cut the call. As I drop my phone, I run into my bedroom to check if I have a proper outfit there. Unfortunately, there is none that fits in for a corporate meeting. I sigh. I should have brought more clothes to my workspace.
I have to do some maths here. I will be late if I go back to the mansion to get an outfit and so, I decide to make the risky move. I will just wear one of the casual outfits and hope my dad doesn’t send me out of the meeting room. After all, I am still the CEO, you know.
I drive as fast as I can but I only get to the office building at the exact time the meeting was scheduled to start. I run all the way inside, get on the elevator and head to the fourth floor. I peep into the meeting hall and it has started already. I run inside, sweating and panting.
What a sight!
