CHAPTER SIX

Marie I woke up the next day to the amazing smell of Bacon and coffee, I breathed in deeply, inhaling the amazing smell. I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, and made my way to the kitchen to meet a more amazing sight. Shirtless Lucas making breakfast and I couldn’t be more glad that the twins are in boarding school.

“Morning Love.”

“Morning handsome, you look good.”

I let my gaze shamelessly roam his body and then lower. How the hell does a man his age look this good, even better than he did a couple of years back?

"If you've looked your fill, can I interest you to breakfast, my lady?"

I laughed at his attempt to fake a British accent. For a man as exposed and international as my Luke, he couldn’t successfully fake an accent if his life depended on it.

“Of course my lord, with pleasure.”

I took a seat at the table as he brought our meal, sitting beside me and planting his lips on mine. His tongue explored my mouth and I inclined my head to give him better access and angles. He placed his hands on my hips and pulled me on him to straddle his hips, I pulled his hair and deepened the kiss while letting my other hand roam his bare chest. He pulled back from the kiss and took a deep breath.

“I wanted to say something but you just have to look so damn good so early in the morning...”

He trailed kisses down my jaw, my neck, and my chest, leaving tiny little bites along the way.

“You’re one to talk...breakfast with a half-naked you is something I couldn't say no to, you know that. You basically asked for it."

He chuckled lightly and his face turned serious again.

"I wanted to apologize about last night, I might have overreacted a little bit..."

“A little bit?”

"Okay, maybe more than a little bit and I'm sorry about that..."

“But...”

“What?”

“C’mon Luke, we both know that’s not all you have in mind so spit it out. Communication remember?”

“Yeah...I do” He takes a deep breath then continues. “He wants you. Jameson. And I’m scared that he’ll get you.”

“I’m not going anywhere Luke, I love you and you don’t have to worry about Jameson...about anyone. I’ll tender my resignation at the end of the month. How is that?”

Luke smiled widely at me, it's always the highlight of my day. It's like a light bulb goes on in the room.

“I think that’s just grand love.”

“We should probably eat, the food’s getting cold.”

"Yeah, I poured blood, sweat, and tears into this meal. Wouldn’t want it to waste now, do we?”

We had our breakfast and just lounged around the house, it was a Saturday and we didn’t exactly have anything important to do. We placed a call to the school and asked to speak to our boys, we just got off the phone with them when I got a mail from Jameson. It was just my luck that Lucas was right beside me on the couch and saw the mail.

Jameson was informing me that we were taking a business trip by Tuesday, Lucas was silent but I knew he was fuming. To him, it was bad enough that I worked for him but now he wants me to take a whole 3-day business trip alone with him.

“Luke, it's just a business trip. Nothing is gonna happen, you have to trust me.”

"It's not you, I don't trust. It's him."

I knew he wasn’t happy with this but I was so proud of him, that he was letting me do this without a fight.

Jameson had given me Monday to prepare for my trip and that he would send a car Tuesday morning. I tried my best to make it up to Luke by spending the days and nights in bed with him.

It was finally time for me to leave. Lucas waited outside for me with an umbrella and escorted me to the car. I was going to miss him, I was so sure of that.

“I’m gonna miss you so much, my love.”

“I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay?”

He nodded slowly and after a toe-curling kiss, he sent me on my way.

"Good morning Mrs. Johnson, I'm your assigned driver for the day as directed by Mr. Jameson. My name is Moses. Let me know if you need anything throughout our drive to the airport.”

“Well, Moses, I’m badly in need of some caffeine. Do you think we can manage that?”

"Yes, Ma’am”

A quick stop at Starbucks earned me a coffee in my hand as I enjoyed the car ride to the airport. I didn’t know of any impromptu trips.

I wasn't the one meant to be going on business trips, that was the director's job. When I asked Jameson why I was the one going in his place, he simply said “...Your Director’s mother died so I gave him 2 weeks off, besides I like you better...”

Now, I’m glad Luke wasn’t privy to that conversation. Let’s just play it safe and say that he would have lost his shit over this. He already wasn’t comfortable with this trip, he was even more vexed that we were going alone without some sort of chaperone.
