Chapter 190 The Person Who Saved Me Was You All Along
Chapter 190 The Person Who Saved Me Was You All Along
Harper was stunned. Why was Evan suddenly asking her to remarry him?
Though she still had feelings for Evan, even after he'd hurt her, she couldn't deny she truly cared for him.
But caring was one thing. Remarrying? That was another matter entirely. "I refuse. You chose Miss Martinez and gave up on me. Don't come crawling back now."
"She threatened suicide back then. I couldn't just let my savior die like that, that's why I chose to divorce you. But honestly, after spending real time with you, I'd already fallen for you. I just refused to admit it." Evan looked at Harper with complete sincerity.
He'd been suppressing his feelings all this time. But after learning Claire wasn't actually his savior, his emotions for Harper could no longer be contained.
Claire watched Harper and Evan, her gaze turning ice-cold. If she couldn't have him, no one else would either, especially not Harper. Absolutely not.
She couldn't stay here another second. Claire stood abruptly, pulling Sophie out of the coffee shop with her.
Evan paid them no attention. His eyes remained locked on Harper, waiting for her answer.
After all this time apart, she was finally hearing these words from him. But her mindset had changed. "I asked you so many times whether you had any feelings for me at all. You never answered, you always dodged the question. I thought you didn't care about me."
"Now that I've finally prepared myself to let you go, you tell me you have feelings for me. I can't accept that." Harper spoke with equal seriousness. She had no intention of remarrying, so she wouldn't give him false hope either.
Disappointment flickered across Evan's face, but he didn't push. What he'd done before was truly wrong. Harper's rejection now was completely understandable.
Later, Harper went directly to the dean and revealed that she was Ruby, submitting a thesis as proof. With this identity revealed and the thesis in hand, the school immediately issued Harper her diploma. As a top-tier designer, there was no need for her to continue attending classes.
Claire knew she and Evan were finished, but she couldn't stand the thought of Evan and Harper getting back together. She went after Harper, even trying to have her killed, but every attempt failed.
Evan had assigned people to protect Harper, and they did their job exceptionally well.
To end this once and for all, Evan personally contacted Claire's parents and gave them a final warning: if Claire continued harassing Harper, the Martinez family would have no reason to continue existing.
For the sake of the Martinez family, Claire's parents sent her abroad and ordered her to stop going after Harper.
The Turner family nearly went bankrupt, left with only a few small companies. Most of their assets had been sold off. At high-society events, the Turner family was nowhere to be seen anymore.
The police continued investigating the fake Ruby, but progress was slow. They hadn't found any solid leads.
After that day at the coffee shop, Evan persistently tried to win Harper back, sending gifts, asking her to dinner. Even when Harper gave him the cold shoulder, he didn't give up.
When Hank found out, he was utterly exasperated with Evan. He'd warned him before that Claire was bad news, but Evan wouldn't listen. He'd told him not to hurt Harper, Evan hadn't taken that to heart either. Now he was chasing after Harper like a lovesick fool. He deserved this.
Hank didn't help. He felt he'd already done enough favors for Evan. He couldn't always take Evan's side, after all, Evan was the one who'd wronged Harper.
Three months later, Harper finally noticed something was off with her body. She'd developed a small belly, and she kept feeling sleepy.
With a sinking feeling, she went to the hospital for a checkup and discovered she was pregnant. Evan happened to be with her that day, he'd insisted on accompanying her through every test.
Counting back the dates, the pregnancy must have happened after they'd fallen into the sea, in that small village, when she'd had a fever and the two of them...
"This is all your fault! Taking advantage of me when I was vulnerable was bad enough, but you didn't even use protection! You're too much!" Harper was furious. If it weren't for Evan, she wouldn't be having this baby.
Evan was thrilled inside, but he didn't dare show it. Harper was angry right now, he couldn't make her angrier, especially now that she was carrying a child. "Don't be angry, don't be angry. You can punish me however you want, just don't be angry. It's not good for your health."
Harper knew the Morgan family would definitely make a big deal about this baby. If Hank found out, he'd definitely push them to remarry immediately.
Evan had been going out of his way to win her over these past months. Truth was, she wasn't angry anymore. But after being ignored for three years, she needed to make him suffer a bit longer before forgiving him. Otherwise, wouldn't he be getting off too easy?
The assistant appeared before them at that moment. "Mr. Morgan, after extensive investigation, we've confirmed that your savior from all those years ago was Miss Wilson."
The assistant actually wanted to call her Mrs. Morgan, but Harper had forbidden it, so he'd changed how he addressed her.
Evan turned to look at Harper. "You were the one who saved me back then? Why didn't you tell me?"
Harper rolled her eyes at Evan. "I tried to tell you several times, but I kept getting interrupted. After that, I just didn't bother."
As she spoke, Harper pulled a bracelet from her purse, the one she'd taken from Evan's wrist when she'd saved him, keeping it as future proof that she was his savior.
No one had been around when she'd left that day, yet someone had still managed to steal credit for saving him.
"So you had this bracelet all along. I thought I'd lost it that time." Evan recognized it immediately. This time, he wouldn't mistake who his savior was.
He also remembered Harper's several attempts to say something, all interrupted because of Claire.
In the end, it was all his fault. Otherwise, he wouldn't have taken this long to realize his savior had been right beside him all along.
"Harper, seeing how sincere I've been, won't you remarry me?" Evan brought up the topic once again.
Harper shook her head decisively. "No. I don't want to remarry you right now. I've suddenly realized being single is great, I can do whatever I want."
With that, Harper strode forward, leaving Evan to follow behind with a worried frown...
Through Evan's tireless efforts, when Harper was six months pregnant, the two of them went to get their marriage certificate again and held an engagement ceremony.
Now that they were back together, Evan was determined to give Harper everything he'd failed to give her before, including a proper engagement and a grand wedding.
Considering Harper's condition, the wedding was scheduled for after she gave birth. At the engagement, Evan publicly announced that Harper was expecting.
Since they'd been married before, Harper's pregnancy was perfectly natural. All the guests offered their congratulations, no one said anything inappropriate.
At their engagement ceremony, Hank smiled brighter than anyone. When he'd learned about Harper's pregnancy, his smile had grown even more radiant.
After everything they'd been through, the two of them had finally found their way back to each other. And their happy days together... were just beginning...
