Mutual agreement

——

That was weird.

She keeps making me not feel enough.

I mean, what more can I possibly do to make her fully trust me?

I heaved a huge sigh, and stared at the files on my hands.

“ Hmm, well, let's see.”

I shrugged and left the office.

The next day
————

I was at a board meeting.

We had to take the necessary measures to be sure we didn't go bankrupt by any chance whatsoever.

We needed to diversify our portfolio.

The lost bid amongst other setbacks have made our brand look less appealing to investors.

We needed another strategy to make sure that we actually preserved our name and appeal to the public, that way, the money would keep coming from the investors.

I had rallied the board executives together and we had each taken out seats round the table.

Notably present was a man I had not really seen in a long time.

A man who was not the happiest to see me deep down. Even while he tried to pretend to be fine.

I knew he really had no reason to be happy at the sight of me.

That was no other than Kayla's dad.

Mr Brooks himself.

“ Hello Mr rocks. Good morning.”

He greeted me extending an arm for a handshake and I obliged with a smile.

“ How are you sir? Trust all is well.?”

He shrugged still smiling.

Awkward, I nodded and left.

I bowed my head as I walked away, for a brief moment actually.

I had to maintain my presence.

He still had a seat in the board, his company is a merger of ours, just with very little or no strings to pull.

Atleast he was saved from bankruptcy.

All in exchange for the life of his daughter.

Not the most morally upright man that there was, but then, not that I could really blame too much of him.

He was not the worst man either.

Just before the meeting began I felt vibration In my pocket and I checked to see the dialer.

It was her.

Kayla.

I soon stared across the table to her dad who surprising to me had been staring at me for quite a while.

Expressionless.

I immediately cut eye contact, and got up to leave.

“ Hey hello! How are you Kayla?”

She immediately replied.

“ Hey, I'm good. I wanted to know if you were free, you know my attitude the other day was not the best in any way.

I wanted to come see you for what you had to say to me.”

I paused for a brief moment, then I cleared my throat.

“ Hell nah girl you don't mean it.

You really don't think that's how it works.

I mean, after the hastiness, and now you are suddenly calm? Come on, make it make sense to me girl
Make it make sense one bit.

Now talk to me, what was it that you had to go to do?”

I asked and she immediately burst into a round of laughter.

“ Hey you know what? I'm currently in the middle of something serious, I can't really begin to deal with this right now, so later when I'm down, we will get back to this.

Bye for now!”

I hung up and hissed as I went back to the table.

We talked for a few hours about the idea of redirecting our capital towards another venture to boost our image, and it was pretty much agreed upon.

The particular one was the challenge.

But after a lot of debates and arguments for hours, we arrived at a conclusion.

The only brand that seemed appealing to the public, and the public seemed to reconcile with was the degeant-rock plc.

Statistically it was the right pick, and it was unanimously agreed to be the focus.

Soon the meeting was over, and I sat on my seat, while the various executives came greeting after the other, and just as I expected, Mr Brooks came forward.

A smile on his face initially, but I could tell what it was about.

He held my hand firmly after the handshake.

“Mr Rocks, your parents convinced me that you would treat her nice.

I believed that, and I hope you keep yo your word which you haven't. Apparently.”

He scratched his beard and sighed.

Be a good boy.”

He patted my back, and he left.

I stared at him in shock, no other person in that gathering had the effonteey to approach me in such manner.

But then again I understood. He was my in-law to be.

I could not help but immediately flash through the bad things I had done to his daughter. Even while I knew deep down I now meant good for her, I still needed to prove it to her beyond any measurable scale.

Still in my thoughts, I remembered I still had to see her.

“ Hey how are you?”

She smiled as she looked up to me.

“ Welcome, I'm all good as you can see, just trying to get access to the government funding program..”

I immediately cut her short.

“ Nah you won't be needing any of that any more.”

She paused and chuckled.

“ What do you mean? I mean it's literally free money that I could use to pay the salary of my workers you know how useful the money could get.”

I smiled as I slid a file across to her.

“ What is this?”

She asked unsure of what to expect.

I chuckled and replied, “ well, that's the result of the board meeting today.

I'll run you through it, and you go deeper later for all the intricate details.

We now need another franchise to invest our resources into, and it was unanimously agreed to be our partnership with you.

Of course the boundaries remain, and for the split, you ca go through the document, it is in line with our initial agreement.

We just need this as another means of publicity.

Since we have lost out on the other way.

Hopefully we can compete with your brand as the face.

That's what it is in essence.”

She went silent as she scanned the documents

“ Wow! That's genuine smart.

What a way to clap back you know.

Actually I have thought of this, but I never felt I was enough to be of help.

I almost asked that you quickly purchase a franchise with lower market cap.

Without knowing degeant was just the right option.”

She nodded her head fully in support.

Not like she had a say.

Especially as all due process was followed.

“ So what now?”

I asked, and she smirked.
