Chapter 95 Mission 1
CHAPTER 95
Mission 1
The Carter Corporation building stood tall against the evening sky, its glass walls reflecting the fading light of the city. Even at that hour, the place remained active with employees moving in and out, security stationed at key points, the quiet hum of power and business never truly fading but not everyone entering that building that night had permission.
Trent stepped out of a black car parked a short distance away, his eyes fixed on the towering structure ahead. His jaw was tight, his expression unreadable, but beneath that calm surface was something far more dangerous.
“I’m done waiting,” he muttered under his breath.
For years, he had lived in the shadow of a name that was supposed to belong to him too. The Carter legacy, the wealth, the power. Yet somehow it all revolved around Leo, always Leo.
Trent clenched his fists slightly. “Not anymore.”
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a black face mask, slipping it on without hesitation. Then, adjusting his jacket, he began walking toward the building, he passed back walking straight to the back entrance to avoid been seen or noticed.
Inside, one of the junior staff members stood nervously near a restricted hallway, glancing around repeatedly. He heard footsteps approaching and quickly straightened.
“You’re late,” he whispered.
Trent didn’t stop walking. “Everything ready?”
The man nodded quickly.
“Yes… I’ve already disabled the camera in that corridor for fifteen minutes. After that, it comes back on automatically.”
Trent slipped something into his hand without even looking. The man’s fingers closed around it instantly.
“And security?” Trent asked.
“Shift change just happened,” the man replied.
“You have a small window.”
Trent nodded once.
“That’s all I need.”
Without another word, he moved past him, his steps steady, calculated.
The hallway was quiet. The kind of silence that made every footstep feel louder than it actually was. Trent moved quickly but carefully, his eyes scanning every corner, every possible blind spot. He knew the risk. If he got caught here, there would be no explanation that could save him but he didn’t stop, because this mattered too much.
He reached the private elevator and used the access card the staff had provided. The doors slid open smoothly, and he stepped inside, pressing the button for the top floor. As the elevator moved, Trent leaned back slightly, exhaling slowly.
The doors opened. The executive floor was dim, mostly empty. Only a few lights remained on, casting long shadows across the polished floors. Trent stepped out, adjusting his mask slightly before walking straight down the corridor. He knew this place, better than most. Yet it had never truly felt like his.
Richard’s office door stood at the end of the hallway. Trent approached it slowly, his heart beginning to beat just a little faster.
Then he reached for the handle which was unlocked because his dad trusted the building, trusted the system and trusted that no one would dare.
Trent pushed the door open. The office was exactly as he remembered. Large, organized, dominated by power. The desk sat at the center, papers arranged neatly, everything in its place.
Trent stepped inside, closing the door quietly behind him.
For a moment he just stood there looking around.
“This should’ve been mine too,” he muttered.
He moved straight to the desk.
He began opening drawers, one after another, scanning documents quickly but carefully, contracts, financial records, agreements he saw nothing.
His frustration began to rise. “Where is it…” he muttered.
He knew Richard wouldn’t make it easy. The man was too careful.
Trent moved to the cabinet, opening it and flipping through files, his movements becoming sharper now. "I know you have it,” he said under his breath. Land documents or even property wills where are they?
He needed something that secured his future because if Richard wouldn’t give it to him willingly then he would take it.
Minutes passed still nothing.
Trent’s jaw tightened as he slammed one drawer shut slightly harder than necessary.
“Damn it.”
His eyes finally landed on a file slightly tucked away at the back of the cabinet. It was less labeled, almost hidden away from the others.
Trent frowned slightly. “What’s this?”
He pulled it out slowly, dust brushing lightly off the edges as he placed it on the desk. For a moment, he hesitated.
Then he opened it. At first, it looked like any other agreement, just formal, structured, business-like but as his eyes moved across the pages his expression changed.
“What…?”
He flipped through the pages more quickly now, his brows furrowing deeply. Dates, signatures, details and then a particular section.
Trent froze his eyes locked onto the words and suddenly the room felt colder. “No way…” he whispered.
He read it again and again, as if hoping he misunderstood. But he didn't, this wasn’t just a business agreement.
This was something else, something darker, something that should never have been found.
Trent stepped back slightly, running a hand through his hair as his breathing grew uneven.
“This… this can’t be real.”
But it was, every signature, every detail. It all pointed to one secret and at the center of it his father, who knew he would be capable of something like this.
Trent let out a shaky breath, his mind racing. “If this ever comes out…” he murmured.
His thoughts immediately shifted to Leo. He imagined Leo’s reaction the way everything would shatter. The way the truth would hit him.
And for a moment Trent didn’t know what he felt. Shock? Yes.
But also opportunity.
His eyes darkened slightly. “This changes everything.”
Without wasting another second, Trent pulled out his phone.
There was only one person he needed to call.
The phone rang once. She picked up.
“Trent?” her voice came through.
Trent didn’t waste time. “You need to hear this,” he said.
Clara frowned slightly on the other end. “What are you talking about?”
Trent looked down at the file again, his grip tightening. “I’m at my father’s office.”
There was a pause.
“You did what?” Clara asked, her voice lowering.
“I broke in,” he said bluntly.
“Are you insane?!”
“Listen to me,” Trent snapped, his tone sharp.
Clara went quiet.
“I found something,” he continued.
“What kind of something?” she asked cautiously.
Trent exhaled slowly. “The kind that can destroy everything.”
“What do you mean?” Clara whispered.
Trent’s eyes hardened.
“I mean,” he said slowly, “if Leo ever finds out about this…”
He paused, letting the weight of it sink in. “…it’s over.”
Clara’s breath caught slightly on the other end.
“Trent… what did you find?”
Trent looked at the file one last time. “I’ll tell you in person.”
And just like that the game had changed.
