Chapter 87 Visit

Chapter 87 Visit

CHAPTER 87
Visit.

Jane's Residence.

Jane’s life had never been loud. It wasn’t filled with luxury, grand gestures, or the kind of attention that followed people. Instead, her world was simply quiet in a way that felt safe, steady in a way that kept her grounded.
She lived in a modest apartment not too far from the city center. It wasn’t large, but it was comfortable enough. The walls were painted in soft, neutral colors, and the furniture was practical rather than fancy. Everything in her home had a purpose, and every corner reflected her personality organized and warm.
Her mornings were usually predictable. She woke up early, made herself a simple breakfast, and prepared for her day without rush. There was no chaos, no unnecessary noise, just a rhythm she had grown used to..Jane didn’t have everything but she had enough and for her, that was okay.

That afternoon, however, something felt off. Jane sat on the edge of her bed, her phone in her hand as she stared down at the screen. Her brows were slightly furrowed, her lips pressed together in quiet frustration.
She had tried calling him again but the result was always the same. The call didn’t go through. She sighed, pulling the phone away from her ear as she ended yet another failed attempt. Her fingers tightened slightly around the device as she stared at it, as if willing it to suddenly fix itself.
“Why is his line not connecting?” she muttered softly to herself. It wasn’t like Victor to be unreachable.
He might not always pick up immediately but his phone was never completely off.
That was what bothered her. It didn’t sit right. She tried again. This time, the call rang for a brief second before cutting off completely.
Jane frowned. “That’s strange…”

Her mind began to wander slightly, trying to piece together possible reasons. Maybe his phone was dead. Maybe he was somewhere with a poor network. Maybe he was just busy but even then something about it still felt wrong. She leaned back slightly, exhaling as she ran a hand through her hair. “I’ll try again later,” she said quietly but even when she said it she knew she wouldn’t stop worrying.
After a few more minutes of sitting in that same spot, Jane shook her head lightly, pushing the thoughts away. There was something else she needed to do.
The thought of Ruby immediately softened her expression. Ruby had been through a lot although she had been there at the hospital, she hadn’t really spent proper time with her since she got discharged. That didn’t feel right.
Jane stood up, grabbing her bag from the chair nearby.
“I should go see her,” she said to herself.
Yes that hat felt better.

A short while later, Jane stepped out into the street, the familiar buzz of the city wrapping around her. Cars passed, people moved about, and life continued as it always did.
She adjusted the strap of her bag as she walked, her mind still partially occupied with thoughts of Victor but she didn’t let it take over. Right now, she wants to focus on something good. Something that mattered.
On her way, Jane stopped by a small roadside shop. The kind she often visited.
It wasn’t anything special, but it had everything she needed.
The smell of freshly made snacks filled the air, and a small smile formed on her lips as she stepped closer.
“Ah, Jane!” The vendor greeted me warmly. “Long time!”

Jane smiled back. “Not that long,” she replied lightly.

“What can I get for you?”

Jane glanced over the display, her eyes scanning the different options.

“Give me some burger, chips… and those small chops too,” she said.

The vendor nodded, quickly packaging the items. “You’re buying plenty today,” he noted with a grin.

Jane chuckled softly.
“It’s not just for me,” she said. “I’m visiting a friend.”

“Ah,” he said knowingly. “Then I’ll add a little extra.”

Jane smiled. “Thank you.”

Moments later, she paid and took the bag, the warmth of the freshly made snacks spreading through her hands. As she turned to leave, she felt a small sense of comfort settle in her chest.
The journey to Ruby’s place didn’t take too long. But along the way, Jane found herself pulling out her phone again. She hesitated for a moment before dialing his number once more. The phone pressed against her ear. Jane frowned again, lowering the phone slowly.
“This is getting really strange…”
Her concern deepened slightly, but she pushed it aside once more. She couldn’t do anything about it right now. But she would figure it out later. She had to.

By the time she arrived at Leo’s house, the sky had begun to dim slightly, the evening settling in. Jane stood at the gate for a moment, adjusting the bag in her hand before taking a small breath. Then she walked forward..The house stood tall and elegant, just as it always did but today, Jane didn’t feel out of place.
She reached the door and rang the bell.
A few seconds later, it opened. Nora stood there, her expression softening immediately when she saw Jane.

“Jane,” she said. “You’re here.”

Jane smiled. “Yes. I came to see Ruby.”

Nora stepped aside. “She’s in the living room.”

Jane nodded, stepping inside.
As she walked further into the house, she could already hear faint sounds from the TV.
She could hear faint sounds and laughter.
Jane paused slightly. That alone told her something had changed.

When she reached the living room, the sight in front of her made her smile.
Ruby sat comfortably on the couch, her attention on the screen but there was something different about her. She looked… lighter.
“Ruby,” Jane called softly.

Ruby turned immediately and the moment she saw Jane her face lit up. “Jane!”

She stood up quickly, moving toward her.
Jane barely had time to react before

Ruby wrapped her arms around her. Jane smiled, returning the hug just as tightly.
“I missed you,” Ruby said.

Jane pulled back slightly, studying her face. “You look better,” she said honestly.

Ruby nodded. “I feel better.”

Jane’s smile grew. “That’s good.”

She lifted the bag slightly. “I brought snacks.”

Ruby’s eyes widened slightly. “Of course you did,” she said with a small laugh.

Jane grinned. “Come on,” she added. “Let’s eat and watch together.”
