Chapter 68 YOUR DISAPPEARANCE

Chapter 68 YOUR DISAPPEARANCE
POV: ELISABETH

I lazily woke up, trying to regain my consciousness, reaching out to the side in search of him, but I was disappointed to realize that Patrick had already gotten up. I replayed the recent events in my mind: being in my boss's bed with a crazy ex-boyfriend, ready to destroy everything and everyone around me.

Furthermore, I sighed, checking the time on the clock. I needed to pull myself together and get ready. I wasn't sure what to do, but I couldn't hide in his huge bed with its soft, expensive sheets forever. I did my personal hygiene, prepared perfectly for work, checked my grandmother's room, which was empty, and went downstairs in search of any sign of them.

“Security?” I called to the man in a black suit standing at the entrance of the living room. He turned, eyeing me from head to toe, which made me uncomfortable. “Have you seen Mr. Morgan?”

“Mr. Morgan left this morning. I don't know his exact whereabouts,” he replied curtly. “And you are?”

“I'm your boss's fiancée. You'd better treat me with respect.” Greg passed by the security guard, bumping shoulders with him and making him straighten up. “Do your job properly, or it won't just be your position that's at risk.”

Standing rigid at the door, the security guard looked at me, startled.

“Forgive me, miss. It won't happen again,” he said, turning back to his post.

“Greg, I'm not.” I started to say, but he grabbed my hands, pushing me towards what seemed to be the garden. “Stop pushing me. Where are you taking me?”

“Your grandmother is waiting for breakfast. I'll be your personal bodyguard, but we need to talk soon and align some information,” he said.

I abruptly stopped, turning to face him.

“You're acting even stranger than usual.” I narrowed my eyes. “Where is Mr. Morgan?”

“He's dealing with your mess!” Greg said, his face stern as he rubbed his temples after the shock of his words.

“He found him? Did he confront him alone? How could you let him be alone?” I gasped, covering my mouth nervously.

“Mrs. Elisabeth, please calm down!” Greg gently placed his hands on my shoulders. “I didn't mean to be rude. Mr. Morgan had to handle company matters and gather information that you have but haven't shared with us. Understand, it's not just your life at risk anymore.”

“I didn't ask for this. Patrick refused to stay away.” I sobbed, feeling my eyes burn with tears.

“We know that, but we need your cooperation with all the information you have. It seems you were the only one who truly knew him.” Sighing, he touched my forehead with his finger. “Have your breakfast, and we'll talk afterward.”

“Are you sure Patrick isn't in danger?” I bit my lips nervously, catching his attention, and looked at my watch in alarm. “I need to get to the office; I'm late!”

Shaking his head, Greg started pushing me toward the garden.

“Not today, miss.”

“I can't just skip work; what will people say about me?” I looked at him, alarmed, causing Greg to laugh exaggeratedly.

“Your life is at risk, and you're worried about paperwork?” he laughed. “Women are really strange!”

“Even here, I'm still in danger; we both know that.” I sighed sadly, lowering my head. “The employees at the company will start asking questions soon.”

“Mr. Morgan informed HR that you would be on leave due to an emergency surgery. They've already arranged for someone to fill in for you,” Greg said, maintaining a formal tone as he straightened up, nodding towards the garden where my grandmother sat, chatting with the maid, who was laughing about something.

“They replaced me so quickly...” I murmured, disheartened.

“You know you're irreplaceable to Mr. Morgan. Don't dwell on nonsense; you're an adult woman,” he cautioned me, eyes narrowed.

“It would be easier for everyone if I disappeared for good.” I walked slowly over to Eva, who widened her smile upon noticing me.

“See? Didn't I tell you my granddaughter is charming?” She remarked, amused, to the maid.

“You're absolutely right. I'll give you privacy. Call me if you need anything,” the maid said with a subtle smile, stepping away. I waited, staring at her, hoping she'd stay far away.

“Haven't I taught you it's rude to stare at people, Lis?” My sweet grandmother scolded me, placing slices of cake on my plate.

“Sorry, grandma...” I turned my eyes back to the security guard.

“She's trustworthy, Mrs. Elisabeth. I checked her out personally.” Greg seemed to notice my discomfort. I nodded, still unsure.

“Where's that handsome and charming man who always accompanies you everywhere?” Eva innocently asked, making my heart ache with worry.

“He's working, grandma... He's a very busy man!” I turned on my coffee cup, not wanting to dwell on the subject. “Are you feeling better?”

“Was I sick?” She tilted her head, confused. “I don't remember being sick.”

“You're right; I must have been mistaken, Grandma.” I smiled gently at her.

“You work too hard, Elisabeth. I've told you, you should stand up to your boss; he takes advantage of your time too much.” She frowned, assessing me closely.

Greg chuckled softly, clearing his throat afterward. I frowned nervously, rubbing my forehead.

“Well, grandma, it's lovely to be in your company, but I need to get organized for work.” I stood up, kissing her forehead as I watched the maid approach to escort her back to her room. “Greg, let's talk!”

Nodding, he led me to the back of the house, where there was a boxing ring and some gym equipment. I looked around, alarmed, passing by the punching bag and pushing it with effort.

“Why are we here?” I turned to Greg.

“As I said, Mrs. Elisabeth, we need to talk.” Greg's serious tone and rigid posture made it clear that this conversation wouldn't be easy.
