Chapter 140 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY: TAP OUT
ZARA
I woke up to the world buzzing about the pink diamond that sat on my finger. I couldn't help myself; I had to share the news with my followers.
Everyone was gushing as to how perfect Aiden Knight was and how lucky I was to have him. They definitely weren't wrong.
I remembered the night we met for the first time. I would have foolishly missed out on having him in my life because of a stupid misunderstanding.
I was staring at the diamond. No matter how I turn it. It looked like a whole new ring with each stroke of the New York sun shining over my ring.
“Good morning, my love." I raised my head to Aiden in the doorway.
His hair was wet from the sweat of exercise and was falling over his eyes. His forehead and neck were wet with sweat. He had a to-go cup in hand as he walked into the room.
I sat up in bed as he walked into the room to my side of the bed. His muscles flexed underneath the polyester as he walked.
“The world is buzzing about your ring."
"It's good news I have to share." I smiled as he set down the cup on the nightstand and kissed my cheeks. 'What do you think?' I asked, pushing my hand in his face.
“If I had known you'd have loved it this much, I would have given it to you the moment I got it."
“The moment you got?”
“I have been carrying that ring around for two months," he whispered. My brows went up.
I shouldn't be shocked he could keep a secret, but he was too good at it. It was kind of scary at this point.
“How did you manage to keep it a secret?"
“I didn't keep it a secret," he shrugged. "In fact, I was hoping you'd find it in London or when we moved back, but even when in plain sight you..."
“I guess I wasn't just looking," I shrugged. “I will look harder next time," I joked, and we both laughed about it.
His phone rang. He looked down at the screen and then up at me.
“It's father, it's probably some work-related thing. Why don't you have some peppermint tea I got from my run?” he asked, shifting the cup closer to me.
I grabbed the paper cup. I opened it and allowed the scent of the tea to fill my nostrils. He got up to the corner of the room.
I watched him pace around. He was still the one who had to lead the entire Knight group at the end of the day. He walked up to me and pushed the phone in my face.
"It's for you," he murmured.
My eyebrows rose again as I tried to drip the cup without spilling the contents. I pressed my hand to the speaker of the phone.
“Does he say why?” I mouthed to Aiden. He just shrugged, and I couldn't tell if he was just doing that to mess with me or if he didn't know.
"Zara," Alexander said in the stiffest voice I had ever heard.
"Mr… Errmm… Alex…” I stopped myself because I had no idea what the right way to address him was. "It's early in the morning. How can I…”
“You and Aiden did well with taking care of Lysandra," he cut me off.
“Uhh!”
“I thought Lysnadra was the best for my son, and at one time I was convinced of my choice. Even when he was married to you, I tried to put him and her together. I guess it's a good thing that he stood his ground."
My eyes went to Aiden, who was just staring at me. How much more did he fight that I was not aware of?
“I am glad he didn't end up trapped by her, or the Knight group might be finished by now." he stopped and took a deep breath.
“I know you think I am superficial and don't care about my son, but that is not true. I am securing a future for many generations to come. "I want to make sure my descendants don't suffer at all," he added.
For some reason, I seemed to understand what he meant. It was the same reason my parents had colluded to lie to me before now.
“Once you have your children, you'd understand."
“I am sure I will," I nodded. My hand went to my stomach even though I knew I was not pregnant. I guess I was finally ready to feel what these people said I would when I had my kids.
“I guess I can expect good news from you both regarding my grandkids soon."
“We are working on it," I said.
He cleared his throat to hide his pleasure. “Good then, carry on," he added, and the line beeped dead.
I handed the phone back to Aiden. “What did he want?"
“To praise me for being the best to you," I joked.
He sat down beside me. Instead of taking the phone, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer. “Is that what he said now?” His voice was low; it made my stomach rumble with joy.
I lifted my finger to his face and traced the side of his lips. “Well, that and also the urgency as to which grandkids are needed," I whispered.
He laughed and threw his head back. “You can't let his pressure get into your head, you know."
“I know."
“Because he might have some kind of hyperfixation where he puts all his attention on something until it gets done."
“I know."
“And it might be some kind of…” I kissed his lips. My mouth is still hovering over his. “Do you want to talk about his hyperfixation, or do you want to make kids?”
“I don't know, tough choice," his lips curved up. He pulled me until I was sitting in his lap. “You might be hiring or sore. "I don't want us to overdo it," he whispered.
I rolled my eyes at him. How dare he get me all trued up like that only to shoot me down?
“Are you saying…"
“I am not saying that," he blinked, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "I am just worried about you." His hand traced my spine. I arched my back in response. How did everything about this man feel so good?
My legs wrapped around his waist as I moved onto his lap, trying to settle in. I could feel the hardness of his dick already pressing into my thigh. I groaned at the feeling.
“You don't have to worry about me. “I would tap out as soon as I get exhausted.” I leaned in and bit on his ear. I nibbled on it. His hand flew to my hand and grabbed a fistful of it as he tried to pull me away. I held on tighter and smiled, pulling away.
“I didn't expect you to be this naughty, my love."
I pouted and blinked rapidly, ready to play as mischievously as I could be. "Well, honey, you can also tap out. The moment you feel weak."
