Layla sat in front of the mirror with a small smile as Susan did the finishing touches to her hair and makeup.
The maid was surprisingly good at it. She found out the maid had worked in a salon before working for Master Davian.
"Thank you, Susan," she cried in delight as she stepped back to get a better look in the full-length mirror.
Her long dark brown hair had more waves than she had ever seen. It framed around her face and bounced on her shoulders.
Her makeup was simple and it matched the gold dress she wore. It had a slit up the side that was high up to her mid-thighs.
"You look very beautiful," Susan said.
"Thank you, Susan," she replied with a smile.
Her shoes were also gold and they matched perfectly with the purse Rosa had insisted she buy and pair with the dress.
The dress was off-shoulder with the short sleeves resting just past her shoulder. A simple gold necklace rested on her neck, drawing attention to the generous cleavage.
Her skin was glowing and shining from the lotion the maid had rubbed all over her skin. Layla was in awe as she looked at herself in the mirror.
"Should I tell Master Davian you are ready?"
Davian had stepped out of the room to prepare their convoy so they could leave on time. Which meant he had not seen her get dressed; she couldn't wait to see his reaction.
"Yes, please," she said and picked up her phone to ask if Rosa was ready.
Susan nodded and walked towards the door. Just before she could touch the handle, the door opened in her face and she jumped back in fright.
"Master Davian," she cried and bowed her head.
"Oh, sorry," he said casually while Susan stood terrified.
"Davian," she said and lifted her head off her phone. "I was just about to call for you."
He turned to look at her. He froze, his eyes widening and his mouth parting slightly. Layla blushed at his reaction, realizing she had never seen him so surprised.
"You look gorgeous," he whispered and walked towards her.
Susan used the opportunity to run out of the room, shutting the door behind her.
"Thank you," she said as she took him in.
He was dressed as usual but something about the air around him was different. His black hair was slicked back, revealing his forehead. It was not something she saw often.
He stopped in front of her and tried to kiss her but she stopped him. "You don't want to ruin my makeup, do you?"
"It is not fair," he said and grabbed her by the waist, leaning closer. "How can you look this good and say I can't get a taste?"
Layla blushed. "How do you think I feel? You look so handsome, darling."
"Darling, huh? I like the sound of that." His eyes glinted in delight.
Her eyes widened slightly. She did not mean to call him that; it had just slipped out. Calling his name at that moment had seemed too formal.
He looked at her with a smug look on his face. Layla turned her gaze away. If she blushed any harder, she would turn into a tomato.
"Shouldn't we leave?" She asked, trying to change the subject to something she could handle.
"I'd rather have you all to myself."
"You can't do that. I have a contract binding me."
"Don't remind me. I can't believe he actually sent his lawyers."
"He might keep to his word."
"Believe me when I say never trust him."
Layla nodded and Davian reluctantly let go of her waist. Only for him to grab her hand instead.
"Let's go," he said and pulled her towards the exit.
"I wanted to ask, will we pick up Rosa on the way? I just texted her and she said she was ready."
"I already sent a car ahead for her."
"You did? I was hoping we could ride together."
"No," he said. "You will see her at the party."
Layla frowned; if she didn't know better, she would say he was jealous of Rosa.
"Besides," he added. "It is faster to send a car to her than for us to drive there then to Alpha Nolan's mansion."
"Is that the location of the party?" she asked as he led her down the stairs.
"Yes," he replied.
She nodded and held her purse closer to herself as they walked to the entrance. Her expression darkened a little as she saw who was by the door.
Arthur had a smile plastered on his face as he saw them. Layla didn't even spare him a glance.
She didn't want him ruining her mood and since Alpha Nolan paid her debt, he must have paid him too. She no longer had any business with him.
"Have a great night, Master Davian, Mistress Layla."
She stiffened slightly as he directly addressed her, especially in front of Alpha Davian. That had never happened.
"Is something wrong?" He asked as they stepped down the stairs.
"Absolutely nothing," she said and smiled brightly at him.
At the bottom of the stairs, a black car with blacked-out windows waited. Daniel was quick to hold it open for her while Davian rounded the car and got in through the other side.
As soon as he got in, he placed his hand on her leg, directly over where the slit ended, tracing circles over her skin.
She looked at him in horror as Daniel got into the car and started driving but he acted oblivious. She shook her head and lay back on the seat to enjoy the ride.
"How long would the journey take?" She asked after some time had passed.
"About twenty more minutes," he replied.
She frowned; it wasn't as far as she expected. She had thought the Mafia Kings would live as far away from each other as possible.
"Is Mafia King Asher's house also close?"
He turned to look at her, his hand still on her leg. "Why?"
"I was just wondering. I thought you all would live pretty far from each other."
"Now that you mentioned it, it's about the same time from Nolan's building to Asher's."
She raised a brow. "Did he maybe set it that way?"
Davian narrowed his eyes. "Yes," he said without hesitation. "It's the sort of thing he would do."
Layla almost laughed. Positioning himself so he would be close to both of them was incredulous.
She laid her head back on the seat and looked out the windows, enjoying the night lights of the bubbling city.
The rest of the journey went smoothly and soon enough the car rolled to the front of Nolan's mansion.
