Chapter 155
Chapter 155
Sarah
Goddess, this is hard, really hard.
I thought I could use my power again easily after healing Dylan, but I was wrong, the more I hold it, the weaker my body gets. But Jeremy and Drake need me to hold out for as long as I can, so that is exactly what I am going to do.
Even if it kills me in the process.
If we do this right, this will be the last battle we fight with the alphas rebelling my rule. But if we don’t, we could be fighting this war for years to come, and none of us want that.
We want to be freed from this hell, and we want to do it as smoothly as we can, saving as many of their people as we can. But if the war carries on, we won’t be able to save as many.
We won’t be able to help the people we want out from under the tyrants ruling them if we can’t either get the alphas to surrender or destroy them at their own game.
Even with some of the alphas from surrounding territories on our side, and fighting for us, these tyrants still have the upper hand. It is my job to take that away from them, by force, and that is exactly what I am doing. I just don’t know how much longer I can do it.
Dylan is alive, and whilst that matters to me more than winning, I’ve slowly realised that if we don’t win, I would have saved him for nothing because the enemy alphas will kill him and Jeremy and Drake. They will kill my children and my people. They’ll destroy everything we have worked so hard to build.
I turn to Matthew who decided to remain by my side to protect me, my voice strained with worry, “Tell them I can’t hold it much longer, tell them to hurry.”
Matthew gives me an apologetic look, “I can’t luna, they have a witch, and she’s stopping all mind-linking.”
They have a witch, why am I only just learning about this information?
That changes things, if the witch finds my mates, she’ll incapacitate them and allow the enemy wolves to finish them off. Fuck, this is bad.
I look around, searching for her amongst the see of faces, but I can’t see her anywhere. The enemy will be keeping her somewhere safe, somewhere I can’t get to her and whilst that is bad, it also means she can’t use her magic to directly hurt my mates.
Witches have to be a lot closer to use their powers than I do, I can do it from afar, they can’t.
“We need to stop the witch before she can do any real damage.” I tell Matthew, but how do I do that when I am protecting Dylan?
He is still unconscious, still vulnerable. I can’t just leave him here alone. That would be like a death sentence.
“How?” Matthew asks, his voice filled with panic. “We can’t leave Dylan here alone.”
“I know that.” I grind out, “Let me think.”
I search the area for my mates, but I can’t see them among the hundreds of faces, the shouts and screams are starting to get to me, and it’s affecting everything. Especially my sight, and fuck, my head is pounding, and I don’t know if that’s from the noise or from the strain of using so much power.
“Stay here.” I tell the beta, using my most authoritative voice. “Protect Dylan, and if the others come back, tell them I’ve gone for the witch.”
“What about the earthquake, will you be able to keep it going?” he asks, concerned for all the other men my power is currently protecting. “I don’t think Drake is going to like you leaving the safety net they made for you.”
“It’ll be even easier to keep it going the closer I actually get to the middle.” I explain, looking around again to make sure I have a clear path forward. “Drake might not like it, but it’s going to help us win.”
Matthew grabs my arm when I move to walk away, “Take some warriors with you, they’ll protect you while you look for the witch.” He gives a look of dejection mixed with pride, “And be safe.”
I try to smile, but I’m not sure it looked anything like reassurance. “I’ll be safe.” I tell him. “Just make sure you and Dylan stay alive until I get back.”
He smiles back, but his actually reassures me that I am doing the right thing, even if it doesn’t feel like it. I feel like I am betraying my mates, but I have to do this. I have to give us the upper hand we desperately need.
“Be safe.” I call over my shoulder, heading for the group of warriors protecting us from the front.
They give me a strange look as I approach, “Alpha Queen? You need to get back. You shouldn’t be this close to the line.” One of them says, his name was something along the lines of Liam if I recall correctly.
“I’m going in.” I tell them, keeping my face void of emotion. “who’s coming with me?”
Liam is the first to step forward, “It’ll be an honour to protect you in battle, Alpha Queen!” he bows.
Three more step forward, all pledging their lives for mine, and I suspect should it actually come down to their lives or mine, they would actually follow through on their pledge.
“We are going into the thick of the fighting.” I tell those who join me across the invisible line I was never meant to cross. “We are searching for a witch; she has cut off our communication.” I turn to face them, my face grave. “And I suspect she is after the alphas.”
Liam gives me a look I don’t recognise. “I know where she’s hiding.” He says, “I saw her when Dylan was injured, she was near the houses on the right side.”
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” I ask, furious he would keep this information from me.
How dare he? You don’t keep this kind of information to yourself when it affects the lives of others.
He rubs the back of his neck, looking at the other warriors with guilt in his eyes. “Because Alpha Queen, the witch is a child.”
A child? That can’t be right. Who brings a child into a war?
Fuck, this changes everything. I can’t kill a child.
But I still have to stop her form using her power against us, how do I make sure she stops without hurting her?
“Tell me everything you know.” I say sternly, my heart racing.
We have to stop her if we want to win, but I will not hurt a child. I will not allow her to kill my people or my mates, but that doesn’t mean I have to kill her. Perhaps I could reason with her.
Perhaps I could get her to stop without the need for violence.
