Chapter 119
Chapter 119
Humblon
As she sat there, I debated, and ultimately decided to give her some hope.
“And hold no hope, your young man shaves.” I said cryptically. Arviel will think I speak of Xaxas.
“I wish I could have had time, not die again.” She sighed. “But it was all I could do to birth him…. I … I see him from afar and all my blessings have only given him grief.” She mumbled.
“He will grow into them. He’s still but a child to us.” I said firmly.
I mean… He’s not even a million, which is 1 year for mortals… He has not seen tectonic movement, nor has he known the movements of the universe.
He knows quite literally nothing, but if I interfere, Arviel will catch on too soon. That kid is so young to us, that he doesn’t give off a god signature yet. He doesn’t even have his god symbol yet.
Fuck I’m talking too much!
….I realize the danger I’ve put this woman in.
Fuck me this is stressful.
When I’m killed for saving Turrus, I’ll be shredded anyway. I know I’m fated to suffer… But I don’t want that happening to Lulliba.
I must be careful with my emotions. He can’t hear me call her that.
Arviel is already mad about his fight with Lia. He’ll take every ounce of anger out on this little goddess…
Arviel will torment me until I tell him of that full god encased in mortal flesh… and kill him before he finds out he’s even a god….
Arviel will rush here if he knows Lulliba was happy, and made contact with Zuviel. The one who will be punished worse is her…
“I ask you as well to remain calm…. I feel you may have about a moon cycle of freedom, so shine only as bright as you must.” I encouraged.
Now I saw her smile.
“I am calm your highness.” She said quietly, not really realizing that she is much higher than me…
“I come to relay a message from your mate.”
She held my lantern, resting her head on it now. Her skin rehydrated, which when Arviel sees, he’ll be mad about too. I realize my hatred is more for his actions, but that may be because I was created from him….. Maybe that is why I sympathize with her so.
The three of us were created by the Lord of Time…
I should check on father. We may not be his real kin, but he’s never made me feel different… Maybe he will have insight into all this, but it will have to be after I’ve gone a few other places, so I don’t drag Hell’s stink somewhere that my brother visits regularly.
She looked in anticipation, and I relayed the message. I could tell their fight was dying down, so I couldn’t play a recording like I wanted.
“He said ‘our youngest is safe, and I ensure our babe does not, nor will not, participate in the war, that he loves you, and thinks of you always…. He will love you always…” She remained sad…. But that was for the best.
“Thank you… Lord Humblon.” She said holding my lantern…. She breaks my heart.
“I must leave, and cleanse myself of the smell of your mate.” I said vanishing.
I made sure Lulliba got to smell him before I took the scent with me, I can do that…. I can only do it in times like this, when Arviel is preoccupied with fucking up, and being an awful husband.
I punish, test, and shred evildoers. Moonlight is an innocent goddess…. The only thing she ever did was have an opposing opinion…
I had some lose ends I needed my herald to fix, so I left.
Arviel doesn’t know that I kept the true Lord of Aggression either… getting out of his line of sight was imperative.
Turrus and Niyamya were in my office on my cat world. They were planning Mercy Day, a day where the little mortals go to my temples, and confess their ‘awful’ crimes.
I like to pretend to be a priest, and give the particularly naughty ones a fright. It’s a pallet cleanser, since about the worst they do is take an extra cookie, or tell small lies. Not anything that would pique the interest of anyone, not even me, but they still feel guilty because they’re basically unicorns, but they become adorable cats.
I know it sounds cowardly to retreat to this, but I have no power over the Sun, even as his brother, born attached to him by a blue thread, so father tells me.
\-----Noah-----
The clank of the jail cell slammed, since it was spring loaded, but we made sure Mr. Twarznai was comfortable. He had a TV, a remote, some books he’d asked for, and some food. Apparently, he did enjoy rare steak, so it was provided. He wasn’t a prisoner after all; he hadn’t done anything.
“Well, that ought to do it.” Said the Chief, while I looked at my mate in a damn cage…
“Thank you for the accommodations. I would not want to walk the streets, and bring worry to his mate.” Said Mr. Twarznai.
“I appreciate that too.” I said honestly.
“I wouldn’t allow that anyway. Everyone back to your stations.” The Chief said firmly.
But it can’t be helped. I trusted Mr. Twarznai sure, but we all decided it was best to leave Jerold’s body in a cell, and Mr. Twarznai didn’t resist. I was honestly appreciative of that though.
Plus, it wouldn’t be a good idea for someone under the command of the Horned One running around in the body of a champion. To be honest, I was surprised that he didn’t order the demon to go on a rampage or something since I have the goddess’s protection…
That was also why my mate’s body was bound. Those restraints won’t hold of course, but it made everyone in the precinct feel better about all this.
I left, and gathered my things, not quite sure what to do with myself.
“Well, I guess it’s time for me to clock out.” I thought out loud. I did everything for the day, including that written report the Chief asked for, so the only thing to do now was drive home.
“I’ll call you when your mate’s back to normal.” He said casually.
“See ya Noah!” waved many of my coworkers, letting me have the space I needed to process this…
I still felt strange… I missed my mate, but I didn’t have the heartbreak some feel. It’s said that some people even die of it, or end up in situations where they don’t care if the Church, or Hunters catch them…. All the heart and half the soul is the saying, but to love someone so greatly, with no room for another, means that if anything happens to them, you suffer.
You never feel whole again, but thankfully I just felt like my mate was gone, like in another town…. I assume because of the Moon Goddess’s crest, the Horned One made sure not to bring me any sorrows….
I got home pretty quick, and when I turned on the lights, it really set in that tonight I would be utterly by myself… but I was alright. I didn’t feel like my bond was broken, just… missing…. I suppose the longer this goes on, the worse I’ll feel, but with his body on Urth, and his soul somewhere else, I’ll never feel whole until he’s home.
I silently thanked her for that protection, that it’ll only be 24 hours. It’s already bad enough that the house is empty…
There was some wine in the fridge, and books in the basement… I figured I could read some of the stuff here, and learn more about Jerold’s lore. That could be fun. I could have gone anywhere or done whatever I wished, but I knew the house was watched.
I saw the car parked on the curb, and I could feel the vibrations of their long distance communication as if it were coming from in the living room.
It kind of made my hair stand on end…..
“You can come out.” I said out loud, not quite sure if someone was in here but-
“Damn it your majesty!” Complained Velvet. “I guess… It’s guys night out?” He offered.
“Shouldn’t you be at work?” I complained.
He actually startled me pretty good being Directly behind me, but I wouldn’t let him know that!
“…. Sir this is my job!” he pointed at himself. “What kind of Second in command would I be if I wasn’t in here with you?”
“Ok fair. I’m going to read downstairs.” I said rolling my eyes, and he nodded.
“Sorry for the startle.” He said opening the cabinets, and getting a plate… He put cheese and crackers on it for my chilled wine, which I appreciated. “I thank the gods you don’t feel the pain of losing his majesty.”
“I am too.” I said being followed downstairs. He had the plate while I had the wine.
I figured this was the best option, since gossip about Jerold is probably already spread across the state. Being in one place that’s heavily guarded by the strongest of our people is a better option than getting into some kind of problem.
I simply picked a book, one which Velvet took, since it wasn’t in English. It didn’t occur to me that some of the content would be in supernatural languages, but he thumbed it as if he remembered the journey mentioned. The old, black leather tome had faded gold words embroidered in it, and the pages weren’t paper.
“Do you want to hear about this?” He asked. “Actually…. Would you like to learn how to read half beast? It’s phonetic.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“This is a dictionary of all the things we discovered about the Night Court. How to kill certain demons, their names if he ever encounters them again, or other fae who side with the Horned One. Since you work on the force too, I’m sure you might want to know this stuff as well.” He offered.
“Hell Yeah Teach Me How To Read!” I yelled. I’d have access to everything down here!
“Alright, simmer down Belladonna.” He giggled, in reference to The Beast and The Pretty Lady fairy tale that later became a very well known kid’s movie.
“Oh whatever!” I laughed with him. “Be my guest, and teach me how to read.” I sang.
“Pfft. If You don’t read with me, then you don’t read At All!” he laughed.
I heard a snicker upstairs. Gods it was corny, but this was also more fun than being alone.
