Chapter 7 She No Longer Cares About the Roberts Family
When Lily heard the word "family," she couldn't help but find it ridiculous.
She had thought the same thing in her past life.
But just before she was about to win the championship, Sophie had taken her place.
What kind of family was that?
Lily responded decisively, "I don't plan on joining the team. I want to focus on my studies and prepare for exams."
Austin, with a sarcastic tone, said, "Oh, really? When you were begging me to teach you how to play, chasing me to train with you at night, and saying you wanted to be a full team member, you didn't mention anything about focusing on your studies."
Lily felt a slight pain in her heart.
The reason she had chased after Austin to play games was to build a good relationship with him and have more common topics to talk about.
But now, there was no need for that.
Lily replied, "Playing games before made me neglect my studies. My grades dropped a lot in the last exam, so I don't want to continue playing."
Austin was left helpless, "Fine, just don't regret it! When the competition starts, everyone will only see Sophie and think she's the real member of the Roberts family."
Since Lily was so ungrateful, he didn't care anymore.
"That's fine," Lily said, not wanting to waste more words, and turned to leave the dining room.
Back in her room, she adjusted her emotions and started doing her homework, brushing up on the knowledge she had forgotten.
The next day after school.
Lily and Sophie walked one after the other to the school gate, where the driver was waiting.
Sophie stood in front of the car and said, "Oh, I need to go to the training camp today, so the driver will drop me off first. We're not going the same way."
The driver, with a stern face, said, "Ms. Roberts, I received a call from Ms. Austin Roberts. I have to drop Miss Scott off first and can't afford any delays."
Lily replied nonchalantly, "I'll just take a cab home."
Sophie got into the car, her face showing a hint of excitement, "Lily, I'll try to talk to Austin for you."
Lily turned and walked away, leaving Sophie looking at her back.
Sophie bit her lip in frustration. She thought, 'Lily, just wait and see. One day, I'll take everything from you! You owe me that!'
Lily stood idly by the roadside, suddenly not wanting to go back to the Roberts house.
Maybe she could find a study room near the school.
"Hey, school's over. Why are you wandering around here?"
Lily turned to see a handsome man. She was momentarily stunned, but then recognized him.
It was Dennis.
He usually wore a mask and a white coat, and now, in different clothes, she almost didn't recognize him.
Dennis stood in front of her, "I asked you a question."
"I don't want to go home right now. I want to find a study room to do my homework." She replied.
"Come with me."
Lily hesitated but followed him.
He led her to the school's infirmary.
Standing at the door, she asked, "What are we doing here? I'm not sick anymore."
Dennis pointed at the desk, "It's quieter and safer here than in a study room."
Lily thought for a moment. It made sense.
She put her backpack down, "Sorry for the trouble."
She took out her textbooks and started doing her homework.
Dennis glanced at her, his gaze cold, then turned and went to the consultation room outside, closing the door behind him.
When Lily came to her senses, she realized it was getting late.
She saw a nameplate on the desk with Dennis's photo and name: Dennis Gonzalez.
"Have you seen enough?"
Lily was caught red-handed. She blushed and put the nameplate back, "I wasn't snooping. I just saw it by accident."
"Is your homework done?"
"Yes, except for some questions I didn't understand. I'll ask the teacher tomorrow."
Dennis walked over and took her notebook. "You can't even do these simple problems?"
Lily felt a bit disheartened, looking down at her textbook, "Yeah, I wasn't really serious before. Other things distracted me from studying."
"Alright, listen up. I'm only explaining this once."
Dennis grabbed a pen and started solving the problems on a piece of scratch paper.
Lily was stunned, watching Dennis in front of her, feeling a mix of emotions.
Because of Sophie, she didn't have many friends, and even the teachers didn't like her much.
No one had ever taken the time to explain things to her.
Dennis looked down, his expression indifferent, "With your level of focus, you must be daydreaming in class!"
Lily quickly snapped out of it and whispered, "Sorry, I'll pay attention."
Seeing her obedient look, Dennis's throat moved slightly, and he continued explaining patiently.
As the evening light enveloped them, Lily sat while Dennis stood beside her, one hand on the desk, explaining the solution process.
"Are you that stubborn? Can't you learn to change? This problem is solved the same way as the last one. Can't you see through such a simple trick? Are your eyes just for show? Have you ever tested your IQ? Is it below average? Do it again!"
His voice was cold and monotone, but his words were sharp.
Luckily, Lily already knew he was sharp-tongued, or she would have broken down.
Lily eventually finished her homework.
She packed up her things, "Thanks, Dr. Gonzalez. You're really good at this."
Dennis twirled his pen, his gaze scrutinizing, "Doesn't your family have a tutor?"
Lily pouted, "I don't want to owe them."
Tutoring was expensive, and she didn't have money. She also didn't want to ask the Roberts family for anything.
Dennis looked at her side profile, her downcast eyes hiding her emotions.
Lily cautiously looked up, "Dr. Gonzalez, can I come to you if I don't understand something in the future?"
Dennis turned his head, his tone a bit unnatural, "I'm busy."
After being rejected, Lily didn't get angry. She quietly packed her bag.
Dennis tapped the desk, then added, "Depends on my mood."
Lily smiled, "Thanks, Dr. Gonzalez!"
Without waiting for his response, she grabbed her bag and ran off.
Dennis squinted, a lazy smile on his face.
'Well, it would pass the time.' He thought.
Lily returned home after dark.
The butler approached, "Mr. Roberts and Miss Scott are out for dinner, so they won't be back for dinner."
"Okay."
Lily went to the dining room to eat alone, enjoying the rare peace.
She opened her phone and saw Sophie's post: [Having a big meal with the brothers]
Her brothers were all there, smiling dotingly at the camera.
Lily glanced at it and then closed the app, eating her meal quietly.
The next morning, Lily went to the dining room for breakfast.
Her brothers hadn't arrived yet; only Sophie was there.
Sophie subtly boasted, "I made a lot of progress at the team training yesterday."
Lily sat down and ate without responding to Sophie.
Sophie, in a good mood, didn't mind Lily's cold attitude.
Lily might seem calm on the surface, but deep down, she must be furious!
Lily quickly finished her breakfast and walked out.
The driver stood by, not moving, "Miss Scott isn't ready yet. We have to wait for her."
Lily waited in the car for over ten minutes, but Sophie still hadn't come.
She looked at the time, getting annoyed, "If she doesn't come soon, we'll be late!"
She was increasingly unable to tolerate the Roberts family.
Lily decided not to wait anymore. She opened the car door to leave, and Peter came out, "Can't you wait a bit longer for Sophie? Her dad saved your life back then and didn't leave you behind. Now you don't even have the patience to wait for Sophie."
Lily's hand gripped the door handle tightly.
