Chapter 209 There Is a Reason Why I Favor Sophie
Lily was furious inside.
Her face turned cold. "Are you sure you want me to play this role? Aren't you afraid I'll ruin your show?"
"It's fine. After all, you're my sister. I'll put up with your bad acting. But I can't tolerate you being disobedient and always going against me." Peter placed the script in front of Lily. "Take a good look at your scenes. This time Sophie is the lead, and you're the supporting role."
"Supporting role—you should let Sophie play it. She's the professional one."
"Are you jealous? Then beg me, and I'll switch you to the female lead. How about that? Let Sophie be the supporting role. Then you can't say I'm playing favorites, right?"
Lily looked at Peter’s sly face and spoke coldly, "If David finds out what you're doing, he'll say you're ungrateful. After all, Sophie did the Roberts family a favor."
"David just cares about dignity. She's just a driver's daughter—how can she compare to you?"
"Don't you think what you're saying contradicts itself?"
Lily remembered that Peter used to treat Sophie well, too.
"Lily, you've always thought I treated Sophie better than you, right? But there's a reason for that—she saved my life."
Sophie saved Peter's life?
She had no idea about this. Peter was always getting into trouble and fights at school, constantly getting cornered by thugs.
Once, Peter got seriously hurt—someone cut him with a knife, and he was covered in blood, hiding in an alley.
At that time, Lily ran out to get help and ran into Sophie, who was passing by after school.
After Lily told her what happened, those thugs chased after them and recognized who she was.
Sophie immediately told them where Peter was.
To prevent Peter from being found, Lily had no choice but to run in the opposite direction to draw those people away.
She was caught by those thugs and nearly died. Luckily, a patrolling police officer passed by, and that's how she survived.
But later, after Peter woke up, he treated her worse and worse, while treating Sophie better and better.
Could it be because of this?
Peter gritted his teeth in hatred. "Lily, looks like you don't remember. But I've remembered it clearly all these years."
He almost died back then, but Lily abandoned him and ran away.
His only sister abandoned him and escaped. In the end, it was Sophie who came back to save him.
Sophie said Lily got scared and ran away.
From that moment on, Peter hated Lily. He was extra good to Sophie and deliberately ignored Lily. He loved watching everyone dislike and slander Lily.
Only that way could he feel a bit better inside.
Lily's eyes were calm. "Then tell me, when exactly did Sophie save you?"
"It was that time..." Before Peter could finish, his agent knocked on the door from outside. "Mr. Roberts, there's something I need to talk to you about."
Only then did Peter adjust his mood.
He looked at Lily. "I don't believe you don't know. You're just pretending to have amnesia again."
"I really don't know."
"Cut it out. Back then, Mom and Dad died because you insisted on going out to buy cake. You survived just fine, but you forgot everything about the accident, which meant we couldn't track down the real culprit."
Lily's face changed slightly. "What do you mean?"
"That driver was just a scapegoat. There was definitely someone else in the car—maybe that person was the one driving. But you forgot everything that happened that day, playing pitiful, pretending to have amnesia."
Lily stood up abruptly. "I'm not pretending to have amnesia. I really don't remember."
"Lily, you say we play favorites, but you got Mom and Dad killed and made those years so hard for us. We didn't kick you out of the house, and that's already generous! Where do you get the right to say that we are partial? What right do you have?"
Peter didn't want to say more and stormed off angrily.
He didn't believe, Lily didn't remember that incident when he got hurt. Lily just didn't want to admit her mistake.
The car accident was the same.
Lily sat in the chair, thinking over what Peter had just said.
But all these years, no one had ever told her about this.
Was there really someone else in the vehicle that caused the accident?
Lily held her head, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember what actually happened during the accident.
After thinking it over, Lily called Michael.
"Lily, you're actually reaching out to me? Is something wrong?" Michael's voice carried surprise.
Lily hesitated before speaking. "The accident back then—has the real culprit behind the accident ever been found?"
"Why are you suddenly asking about this? Did you remember something?"
"No, but Peter told me there's more to the story about that accident, right?"
After Lily asked, the other end of the phone fell silent.
After a long while, Michael finally said, "It's not something I can explain in a sentence or two over the phone. Come to the hospital later."
"Can't you tell me over the phone?"
Lily didn't want to go to the hospital.
Michael's tone was pleading. "This is such an important matter—of course I need to tell you in person. Do you really not want to see me that much?"
Lily heard violent coughing from the other end of the phone, along with doctors and nurses talking.
"Mr. Roberts, your condition can't be delayed any longer. You must eat properly."
"Mr. Roberts, if you keep going like this, your entire stomach will have to be removed."
Listening to these words, Lily couldn't describe what she was feeling.
It sounded like he was quite seriously ill, completely different from her past life.
Soon, Alvin took the phone. "Ms. Roberts, Mr. Roberts needs to go for treatment. Can you come by later?"
Lily was silent for a long time. "I'll see how it goes."
She hung up after saying that.
She opened her phone, and sure enough, saw that the slapping incident had been clarified as rehearsing a scene.
Lily was in a bad mood. After staying for a while, she left the studio through a side door.
She went straight to the gym.
But when Lily changed into her workout clothes and walked to the boxing ring, she saw a familiar figure.
Lily was a bit surprised. "How come you have time to come today?"
Dennis had changed into gray athletic wear, making him look youthful and energetic.
"Came to check if you've been slacking off and getting rusty."
The man's gaze was gentle as he reached out his hand. "Come up."
Lily looked up at him, and her irritated mood instantly calmed down quite a bit.
She reached out her hand and flipped herself onto the boxing ring.
This time, Lily used all her strength to spar with Dennis. She discovered that no matter how she attacked, Dennis could dodge it all.
She lay on the ground, exhausted. "You liar, you're not an amateur at all."
She had improved so much, but still couldn't beat him.
Dennis handed her a towel and water. "Don't believe everything men say."
"You're different."
Dennis glanced at her. "I'm also a man."
Lily checked the time and closed her eyes to rest.
Dennis spoke up. "Are you going somewhere later? You've checked the time several times."
"I do have an appointment."
Hearing Lily say this, Dennis's hand paused for a moment. He asked casually, "Male or female?"
"Male."
Lily got up and went straight to change her clothes.
Dennis looked at her retreating figure, his brows furrowing unconsciously.
Actually a man?
When Lily came out after changing, she saw Dennis waiting outside. "Men are really fast."
"Where are you meeting him? I'll give you a ride."
Dennis's tone was exceptionally calm, as if it really was convenient for him.
Lily didn't explain. "Sure."
After the two got in the car, Dennis couldn't help but ask, "Are you dating someone?"
Lily finally couldn't hold back her laughter. "No, I'm going to the hospital."
Dennis's eyes narrowed slightly. "To see Michael?"
"I want to ask him about something. This afternoon, Peter said there's more to the story about that accident. There was someone else in the vehicle that caused it, and I want to know who."
Dennis slammed on the brakes.
