Chapter 192 I Just Like Watching David Lose His Temper
Lily looked at David, who was fuming in front of her. Honestly, she was feeling pretty good about it.
After hearing what she said, David flew into a rage. "Lily, how dare you ask me to beg you!"
"Why not?"
"I'm your own brother!"
David's eyes were bloodshot, his chest heaving with anger as he stared at Lily in shock and disappointment.
She actually wanted him to beg her!
Michael came over and pulled at David. "David, calm down first!"
"I can't calm down. Do you think it was easy for me to get where I am today and build the Roberts Group?" David pointed at Michael's nose and snapped, "All these years I've been working my ass off out there, suffering so much. I made money to support all of you. Is this how you all repay me?"
Michael paused. "David, if you want Lily to help, could you be a bit nicer? Don't act like she's your enemy."
"Be nicer? Don't you see what she's done?" David was furious, looking at Lily. "The company I worked so hard to build—you used to live such a comfortable life because of this company!"
Lily chuckled. "Talk about emotional blackmail. Mr. Roberts, you could teach a masterclass in it. You might even get rich."
Michael stood between them, trying to smooth things over. "Lily, can you say less, too?"
"Why should I?" Lily didn't back down one bit. "You're the ones who barged into the company with all these people, accusing me of hacking the Roberts Group. You didn't believe me. Now I've proven it to you myself, and you're trying to shift the blame onto me?"
Michael replied gently, "David not believing you was David's and my mistake. I apologize, okay?"
"What good is your apology? Is an apology supposed to fix everything?" Lily's tone was ice-cold.
David couldn't take it anymore and pointed at Lily's nose. "Michael already apologized to you. What more do you want?"
"If apologizing is so useful in your eyes, then let me apologize for what I just did, too." Lily sneered. "But I still have no obligation to help you fix the system. After all, I've already apologized. What more do you want?"
Two could play at the emotional blackmail game—she'd mastered it long ago.
David was so angry his temples were throbbing, but he couldn't think of any words to argue back. He felt extremely frustrated.
Michael showed a bitter smile. "Lily, did I do something wrong again?"
Why could he never do anything right?
Why did he always make Lily angry?
He clearly wanted to repair their sibling relationship.
Lily stared coldly at Michael. "You're not wrong. Just keep being the way you've always been. Nobody's forcing you to change."
"But that wouldn't be fair to you," Michael explained.
Wasn't it because of their favoritism and neglect that Lily got hurt and disappointed enough to leave home?
Lily replied coldly, "I cut ties with the Roberts family long ago. You don't need to think about me."
No need to pretend like they wanted to change for her sake.
Geraldo said anxiously, "Mr. Roberts, the data has started leaking. What do we do? We need to stop it quickly, or the confidential data will leak out too, and then we're finished."
David clearly realized the problem.
He couldn't afford to waste time now.
His voice was hoarse with anger as he stared at Lily. "What will it take for you to fix the system?"
Lily raised her eyelids slightly. "I already said it. I don't want to repeat myself!"
David gritted his teeth. Ask her to beg? Not over his dead body!
Michael looked at Lily and said, "Lily, what if I beg you? This is David's life's work, and it was Mom and Dad's company before. Can you bear to watch this company face a crisis and go bankrupt?"
Lily kept a straight face. "Didn't Mom and Dad's company already go bankrupt and get liquidated?"
After her parents died, everyone around them changed their tune, and the company eventually went bankrupt.
"It did get liquidated, but there was a branch company in Empire City. David built everything he has today, starting from that branch."
Michael's eyes were pleading. "I'm begging you, just do it for Mom and Dad's sake, okay? This is the only thing Mom and Dad left us."
Lily lowered her eyelids. Her parents were indeed her weak spot.
She looked up at David. "I can help fix it, but you need to apologize for what you said earlier. You slandered me."
David was still angry. Apologize? Impossible!
Michael walked over to persuade David, lowering his voice. "David, now's not the time to fight over pride. Lily is our own sister. Between family, it's nothing to back down a little. When you were little, you used to let her ride on your shoulders, remember?"
David thought back to when they were kids.
Back then, he really did dote on Lily, his only sister, wanting to give her the best things in the world.
That's why when his startup made its first profit, he bought that antique golden phoenix crown, just because Lily said she liked it.
But when did everything change?
David thought for a moment, then spoke stiffly. "I shouldn't have slandered you for hacking our company's system without getting the facts straight."
After hearing this, Lily said, "This is really rare—actually hearing you apologize!"
David had always been the patriarch of the family.
Working outside all year round, he had to hold back his temper with outsiders, but in private, he had little patience with his family.
Good to outsiders, but saving his worst side for his family.
She'd never seen David back down to anyone in the family.
Michael quickly spoke up. "Lily, see, David admitted he was wrong. Shouldn't you help out now? This is Mom and Dad's company, too."
"I know. You don't need to remind me." Lily sat back down at the computer, her fingers flying across the keyboar,d writing code.
Before long, the Roberts Group's web pages were back to normal.
David kept a stern face. "How much company data was leaked?"
"Quite a bit, but the confidential data is still there."
Lily glanced at it, then logged out.
David got a bit anxious. "Why did you log out? The rest isn't fixed yet."
"I didn't cause those problems. They're not part of my job!"
Lily took out a USB drive. "This has the IP addresses of those who took advantage of the chaos. Check them one by one, and you should find out who did it."
After she finished speaking, David reached for the USB drive, but Lily didn't give it to him.
David's eyelid twitched. "What do you mean?"
"This USB drive costs extra." Lily sneered. She didn't do business at a loss.
David spoke through gritted teeth. "You're actually talking money with me? Then calculate how much you've spent of my money since you were little!"
"Mr. Roberts, don't forget that all my school expenses growing up came from the trust fund Mom and Dad set up. As for other expenses, I already paid Michael back."
Michael showed a bitter smile. "David, Lily did pay it back."
"How much could she have paid back? Definitely not as much as she spent!"
"Before Mom and Dad's accident, I spent their money. After they died, you brought Sophie to the Roberts family. I barely spent any family money at all—you all spent it on Sophie."
Lily remembered very clearly.
Her nightmare only began after Sophie came to the Roberts family.
All these years, she'd lived worse than a servant.
David argued loudly, "That's impossible. I gave you way more allowance than Sophie. You're my real sister, how could I shortchange you?"
"Then you should ask Michael."
Lily's face was mocking. Michael felt too guilty to look up. "David, what Lily said is true."
"Why would you do that?"
"To show I was being fair, I gave them equal treatment. You said Lily was always targeting Sophie, so you took away all of Lily's allowance and gave it to Sophie as compensation."
The more Michael spoke, the more he regretted it.
David's mind felt like it had been hit hard with something. His expression was stunned.
