Chapter 189: I Don't Have Such a Shameless Sister
Sophie was convinced that Lily must be Eric's sugar baby.
David's expression was unreadable. "Are you sure?"
"David, think about it. There were already signs back in Imperial City, and now Lily's come to Empire City, working at this company, and somehow ended up as a shareholder. Something's definitely fishy."
David knew very well that this kind of tactic was commonly used in their circle.
Setting up a small company to give to a mistress - that was pocket change.
But David hadn't expected Lily to hook up with the heir of the Murphy Family. She'd really moved up in the world!
Sophie saw that David actually believed her, and a flash of satisfaction crossed her eyes. "David, we need to figure something out. If Lily has that heir backing her up, won't she always lord it over us!" 或 "won't she think she's better than us!"
"She wouldn't dare. I'll find a way to meet with that Murphy Family heir and talk about Lily."
After all, he was Lily's own brother. If the guy was keeping his sister, he couldn't refuse to meet him.
He couldn't let Lily keep making mistakes.
Lily stepped outside and finally breathed a little easier.
Delbert couldn't help venting, "Lily, your brother David is way out of line! Before Ronald showed up, he mocked and belittled you so much! And now he's changed his tune so fast, turning it around and guilt-tripping you! Acting like you forced them to steal our trade secrets!"
It was really infuriating.
Lily looked up at Ronald. "Thank you so much for this, and sorry for the trouble."
"No trouble at all, just doing my job." Seeing how polite Lily was, and thinking about the Roberts family's attitude just now, Ronald could see that the Roberts family was pretty biased.
But with that heir from the Gonzalez family backing Lily up, ten Roberts families combined wouldn't be a match for her.
Last time, Dennis must have been in that car accident with Lily, too - he was the one who handled the aftermath and was told to keep it confidential.
Today, he finally met the girl that the Gonzalez family heir protected so fiercely.
After Lily exchanged contact information with Ronald, he left.
Lily remembered that Ethan had mentioned his cousin earlier - she should have asked about it, but she felt it wasn't appropriate to ask Ronald.
Better to ask Eric later.
Come to think of it, it was strange - Eric's last name was Murphy, too.
Lily returned to the company with her colleagues. The AI project was more than halfway done, and she needed to check the progress and see if there were any problems.
Since Ronald was representing the company's case, everyone felt confident, and work efficiency was much higher than before.
Lily sat in front of her computer, writing code and testing their project data.
When Dennis arrived, he saw her wearing glasses, sitting in front of the computer, working intently.
Her hands moved skillfully across the keyboard, typing code, her focused expression looking a bit adorable.
Eric stood beside him and said quietly, "David found an intermediary to contact me, saying he wants to talk to me about Lily. Looks like after Ronald went over today, they're suspicious."
Dennis looked away. "Go meet him, see what he wants to talk about."
"Alright, I'll go feel David out and see if he found out anything from Ethan. I'm heading out then."
Eric left after speaking. After all, Dennis was the company's major shareholder.
He was just a shield on the surface, which was why David came to him first.
Dennis sat in the office and opened his computer to also check the AI project for any problems.
Time flew by, the sun set, and it was completely dark outside.
After finishing her testing, Lily rubbed her neck. Her colleagues had all gone home.
She looked up and saw that the boss's office light was still on.
Could Eric be there?
Lily walked over and knocked. A man's cool voice came from inside, "Come in."
That was Dennis's voice?
Lily pushed open the door and saw Dennis sitting in front of the computer, wearing a long, white, sleeveless shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his well-defined forearms.
She asked in surprise, "Why are you here?"
"Why couldn't it be me? Seeing me, are you that disappointed?"
Dennis leaned back in his chair, his gaze fixed on her.
Lily leaned against the door. "I thought it was Eric. Didn't expect you. Looks like you're a pretty dedicated consultant."
"Come here. Did you find any problems on your end?"
Lily walked over and stood in front of the desk. "I did find a small issue. We'll need to have a meeting to fix it together later."
Dennis tapped the desk. "Come see if I found the same issue you did."
Was he testing too?
Lily walked around the desk and stood beside him.
Dennis stood up and gave his seat to Lily. He got up to pour a glass of water and placed it by her hand.
Lily moved the mouse and looked at the error he'd found. "I knew it - you found the same problem. I wasn't quite sure earlier."
She had to admit Dennis was a bit better than she was.
Dennis bent down to look at the computer. "Actually, this is pretty easy to spot."
He rested one hand on the edge of the desk, calmly and patiently explaining the problem.
Lily was listening carefully at first, but then she suddenly turned her head and noticed they were very close.
He was bent over, almost holding her in his arms.
Lily couldn't concentrate anymore. She casually picked up the water glass nearby and took a few sips - she was thirsty anyway.
Only then did Dennis stop and glance at the cup in her hand. "Thirsty?"
Lily nodded.
He smiled. "That's the cup I drank from."
He drank from it?
Lily's face heated up considerably. She quickly put the cup down. "Let me pour you another one."
"No need, let's go eat."
Dennis straightened up, putting distance between them, as if that moment of intimacy hadn't existed.
Lily also stood up from the chair. "It is getting late. I should head back to the dorm before they lock the doors."
The dorm had a curfew.
Dennis checked the time - it was indeed a bit late. He remembered Quest University dorms closed at 11.
He said, "I'll take you back."
Lily left the company with Dennis and sat in the passenger seat.
The car was very quiet. Lily felt a bit uncomfortable and took the initiative to make conversation. "Eric didn't come today?"
"Do you need him for something?"
"He got that lawyer to take the case, you know? Mr. Ronald Ford, that really famous lawyer!"
Dennis's tone was calm. "I know."
"What's Eric's relationship with Ethan?"
Lily knew Eric was pretty wealthy, but she hadn't expected him to be connected to Empire City's Murphy Family.
Dennis's car stopped at a red light. "Why are you asking?"
"Ethan went to court with Sophie today. He said something weird - that Mr. Ronald Ford only took this case out of respect for his cousin."
Lily didn't mention what Ethan said about her having an affair with someone.
Dennis knew he couldn't hide it.
He thought for a moment and said, "He is indeed Ethan's cousin."
Lily was shocked. "Eric is the heir of Empire City's Murphy Family?"
She hadn't expected Eric to have such a big background!
She looked seriously at Dennis driving beside her. "I didn't know your good friend was so rich."
Dennis felt a bit guilty. "He's doing alright."
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"There was no need."
Lily thought about it carefully - there really wasn't any need. Eric probably didn't want to reveal his identity either.
Soon, the car stopped outside the school.
After getting out, Lily waved at him. "Drive carefully."
"Lily, instead of keeping your sugar daddy company, you're out on a date with this poor guy. Playing the field - aren't you afraid Mr. Murphy will find out and dump you?" Sophie's words carried the smell of alcohol mixed with perfume - clearly she was coming back from a bar.
Dennis's expression instantly turned cold.
