Chapter 176: Bastard, How Are You Talking to Me?
Sophie nodded, surprised. "What's wrong? Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
Could Ethan be interested in Lily again?
After all, Ethan had set his sights on Lily from the very beginning. Lily was the one who had deliberately stolen him away.
Sophie's only hope now was to marry into the Murphy Family and have a son. She couldn't let Lily take that opportunity too.
With a hint of jealousy, Sophie asked, "Are you interested in Lily again?"
"Lily? That violent lunatic?" Ethan scoffed. "I'd have to be crazy to like her. But what's that school doctor's full name? His last name is actually Gonzalez."
Now that Eric had stepped in to help, could that doctor be connected to the Gonzalez family?
Eric was close to the most powerful heir in Empire City.
Maybe there really was some connection.
Sophie said, "I don't know his full name either. I can ask my classmates to check with the high school."
Samantha sneered. "Ethan, I know what you're thinking, and it's impossible."
"I'm just asking. It feels strange."
"Lily's a nobody. How could she possibly know someone from the Gonzalez family? It's probably just a coincidence."
Only then did Sophie understand what Ethan meant. She nodded. "Exactly. if that school doctor was really from the wealthy Gonzalez family, he wouldn't be working as some underpaid school doctor. I heard the salary is really low, he doesn't even have a house, and he's living off Lily's credit card."
"Then I guess I'm overthinking it."
After hearing Sophie's explanation, Ethan felt it made sense.
After all, there was more than one Gonzalez family in Empire City.
In the near future, Ethan would regret this bitterly.
At that moment, Samantha pulled out her phone to watch a show. "My dream guy's new drama is so handsome."
Sophie glanced at the screen and grew excited. "My brother's new drama finally premiered."
"You're saying he's your brother?"
Sophie quickly nodded. "Yes, this is my brother, Peter. We've been close since we were little, and he even said he'd help me break into the entertainment industry someday."
Samantha's attitude improved immediately. "Then when can you arrange for Peter to come out for a meal? I really like him."
Peter was exactly her type.
Sophie agreed at once. "No problem. That's easy. Peter's been filming on location this whole time, but now that the new drama is out, he'll probably be back soon."
Seeing Samantha so happy, Sophie felt much better too.
Because of Lily, Samantha had also turned cold toward her.
But now that Samantha was Peter's fan, things would be much easier.
Once Peter returned and stood on her side, she wouldn't have to worry about anything.
Still, she would need to be more careful from now on and not let Lily find any chance to drive a wedge between her and the Roberts brothers.
If she wanted to marry into the Murphy Family someday, she would need the Roberts family's support.
During class, Lily received a notification from the Maple Leaf Corporation work group: [Meeting at 3 PM.]
Lily glanced at it and replied: [Got it.]
The team leader tagged her. [You don't have class this afternoon, right? Can you come?]
[Right, I don't have class this afternoon. I'll be there on time.]
Since she was also part of the company, she attended meetings whenever she could.
Besides, after the previous plagiarism incident, the Roberts Group had been accused of plagiarism and lost its bidding qualification, there were probably still people in the company spreading rumors about her and the Roberts Group.
After class, Lily looked at Zoey. "I need to go to the company. Let me know right away if anything comes up at school."
"Okay, but we still need to find sponsors for the team. We can't keep spending your money. Buying those tickets last time cost a lot too."
A hundred thousand dollars sounded like a lot, but it wouldn't last long.
Lily nodded. "I'll think of something and try to find sponsors soon."
She was planning to attend a networking event in the esports circle, and there would definitely be plenty of company sponsors there. She'd have to find a way to secure sponsorship for the school team.
At the venue yesterday, she had already declared that Quest University's team would make it all the way to the finals.
She wondered whether any sharp-eyed sponsors would invest early.
After class, Lily went straight to Maple Leaf Corporation.
When she walked into the conference room, the entire technical team was already there.
But the moment she appeared, their discussion stopped, and their expressions turned strange.
Lily asked, "What's wrong?"
The team leader looked at her. "Lily, haven't you heard? Someone's been spreading the word in legal circles, telling lawyers not to take Maple Leaf Corporation's case over the leaked proposal."
So it had come to this?
Lily's first thought was of David, but she didn't think he had that much influence in legal circles.
Could his fiancée's family have arranged it?
After a moment, Lily said, "I didn't know."
"Don't take it to heart. We only just heard about it too, but the boss will definitely find a way to solve it."
Everyone now knew that Lily was the sister of the Roberts Group's CEO, but her brothers favored Sophie so heavily that Lily had left home during college to make it on her own. It had been hard on her.
After Lily sat down, her mood darkened.
If no lawyer was willing to take the case, then even if they filed a lawsuit, they would still lose.
"Lily, the boss is here. Don't worry. This will be resolved."
Lily looked up and saw Eric walking in first, with Dennis behind him.
She remembered that Dennis had resigned and was now working here, so it was inevitable that they would run into each other during meetings.
Dennis's gaze fell on Lily's face, and he noticed that she seemed distracted.
After sitting down, he pulled out his phone and sent her a message: [What are you daydreaming about?]
Lily's phone buzzed. Feeling a little awkward, she switched it to silent mode and saw that the message was from Dennis.
She looked up at him and replied: [Delete my photo.]
Dennis replied: [Already deleted it.]
Lily stared at the man across from her. Did he really think she would believe that?
Dennis put down his phone and looked up, meeting her eyes. His expression was calm, with the faintest smile at the corner of his mouth.
Lily grew even more annoyed. He clearly hadn't deleted it.
After Eric, as the boss, finished speaking for a while, he asked, "Does anyone have anything else to say?"
Someone immediately said, "Mr. Murphy, we heard that someone's been pressuring lawyers not to take our case against the Roberts Group."
"Really?"
Eric looked mildly surprised, as though this had never been a concern for him.
He smiled faintly. "I've already found a lawyer. Everyone doesn't need to worry about this. Meeting adjourned."
Lily was the last one to walk out.
Dennis asked, "Were you worried about this just now?"
"Yes, David always uses every trick he can in situations like this. I'm not surprised he'd do something like this."
Eric said with a smile, "Lily, you don't need to worry. We'll definitely win the lawsuit."
Dennis changed the subject. "Have they decided who they're going to throw under the bus?"
After all, they'd all heard what Lily said yesterday.
Lily was just about to answer when her phone rang.
She glanced at the number and said, "Speak of the devil."
Lily answered the call and put it on speaker. "Mr. Roberts, you're calling personally. Does that mean you've finally decided to take full responsibility yourself?"
The words David had been about to say lodged in his throat.
That little brat Lily—how dare she speak to him like that?
