Chapter 169 She Hates Her for Causing the Death of Their Parents
Lily said coldly, "I never said I was changing my surname."
Her parents gave her that name, and she would keep it.
"But what you're doing - how is it any different from changing your surname? During the holidays, will you have the nerve to visit Mom and Dad's graves?"
"Don't use Mom and Dad to pressure me."
"Lily, back then, you were the one who insisted on going out to buy cake. Mom and Dad doted on you and went out with you, and that's when the accident happened. After that, all kinds of people came crawling out, trying to fight over our family's assets, wanting to tear us apart!
I was the one who shouldered everything alone, came to Empire City to start over and build a business - that's how you got your comfortable life.
Michael was the one who stayed in our hometown, taking care of you all those years. He could have developed his career much better.
But now you've schemed to disqualify his company's project from the bidding, costing him half his fortune.
Lily, is this how you repay us?"
After listening, Lily felt she was being unfairly blamed.
David knew their parents had always been her weak spot.
Because of that guilt, in her past life, she had been completely obedient to the family and given everything, only to die miserably in the end!
Lily's voice was cold: "It was Sophie and Austin who stole my creative work. It was you who allowed and approved using my ideas, which led to you losing the bidding qualification.
I didn't hold a knife to your throats and force you to do it.
If even one of you had stopped it, none of this would have happened.
But no one did. So now you're facing the consequences of your own actions!"
She wouldn't let these words get to her.
She didn't owe these brothers anything.
David couldn't say a word for a long moment. Lily's clear logic made him almost drop his phone!
He spoke up: "You're getting sharper and sharper with your words now. But at the end of the day, Michael doesn't owe you anything!"
"But his project being destroyed - that's on you guys, not me. Don't try to guilt-trip me!" Lily hung up after saying this, not wanting to waste more words.
But David's calls kept coming. She hung up directly, then blocked him.
Finally, the world was quiet.
After resting for two days, Lily felt ready to go back to the gym for training. She messaged the owner to book a session.
Lily left the team base with her clothes, planning to head to the gym.
But Ethan swaggered right in.
When the business school guy showed up, everyone at the base got a bit nervous.
After all, the conflict between Lily and Samantha from the business school was known throughout the school.
Though it had ended with both Samantha and Lily publicly apologizing, and the business school people hadn't bothered Lily since.
Why were they here again?
Lily stared at Ethan coolly. "What, want to join the team?"
"I'm here about something - it's about Sophie."
"What's that got to do with me!" Lily walked past Ethan to leave, but he followed. "Sophie just made a little mistake. You don't need to be so serious about suing her, do you?"
He was pretty into Sophie right now - gentle and obedient.
"Lily, as long as you don't sue, I'll owe you a favor. How about that?"
"Get lost!" Lily said, not even glancing at Ethan.
But the people Ethan brought surrounded Lily.
Ethan's tone carried a threat: "Don't say I didn't give you a chance!! Push me too far, and I'll hit a woman too!"
"Come on, hit me right here!" Lily pointed at her own head and walked toward the business school guys.
Her face was expressionless, her eyes cold - kind of scary looking.
Ethan backed away in fright. "You-you're crazy."
No wonder Samantha apologized that day. Lily's a psycho!
Lily walked right past Ethan, even bumping into him, making him nearly gasp in pain!
This crazy woman has some serious strength!
Ethan turned around and made a threat: "Lily, you're so arrogant! I'll make sure you can't even find a lawyer. Just you wait!"
Lily still didn't look back. Bunch of cowards.
The coach told her yesterday that after improving her combat skills, she couldn't just hit people randomly.
She had to follow the rules - unless the other person struck first!
Too bad those guys didn't dare make a move!
Ethan was furious and determined to teach Lily a lesson.
But he couldn't let his family know about this. His mom probably wouldn't approve of Sophie's background. The only person he could turn to right now was his cousin Eric.
Ethan called Eric: "Eric, I need you to help me with something."
"What trouble did you get into now?"
"It's not me, it's my girlfriend who's in a bit of trouble."
"You have so many girlfriends, can you even remember which one?"
Ethan felt a bit embarrassed. "This time it's real. I met this girl when I was studying at Imperial City, and now she's come to Quest University's business school too."
Eric's eyebrow twitched. It couldn't be that Sophie, could it?
"Eric, my girlfriend got a lawyer's letter. Seems like some company called Maple Leaf Corporation wants to sue. You know some big lawyers, right? Have them make a call and warn Maple Leaf Corporation's lawyer not to take the case."
After hearing this, Eric was so angry he laughed. "You're lazy and useless, and now you're learning to make threats?"
"Eric, I'm just asking you for a favor."
"Help? Of course I'll help."
"Thanks."
Ethan hung up satisfied.
Eric looked at his phone, so angry he almost cursed. "This Sophie must be toxic. She's got Ethan completely wrapped around her finger, and he's even standing up for her?"
And wanting him to help find a lawyer!
Damn it!
Eric immediately called Dennis to tell him about this.
Dennis's tone turned much colder. "Does your cousin Ethan have a death wish?"
"His brain's been messed up since he was little. I'm giving you a heads up about this. I'll handle the lawyer situation myself - you don't need to get involved at all!"
If Dennis got involved, Ethan would really suffer.
Right now, the Harper family was still struggling with business problems and wasn't as arrogant as before.
Dennis had arranged all of this secretly to stand up for Lily, to make sure the Harper family didn't have the energy to bother Lily!
But he never expected the Murphy Family to pull something like this!
Infuriating!
Lily went straight to the gym. She changed clothes and came to the boxing practice area.
She instinctively glanced toward the pillar - Dennis had stood there yesterday.
"Ms. Roberts, I've made a training schedule for you. Take a look, and let me know if you have any thoughts."
Lily saw yesterday's coach. "Why is it still you?"
"I work here, of course, it's me."
Lily had thought he was someone Dennis specifically found to train her.
Turns out he really did work here.
Was she overthinking it?
Lily looked at the training schedule. "I don't have any issues. Let's just follow what you said."
She had already improved a lot and wouldn't get injured anymore.
After training, as Lily lay on the floor resting, she instinctively looked around, having this illusion that he might appear at any moment!
But he didn't come today.
Well, yesterday Dennis came in person to prove his point was right.
After showering, Lily carried her gym bag and slowly headed back to school.
But when she reached her dorm entrance, she saw a familiar person she didn't want to see standing at the door.
So annoying - why won't the Roberts family leave her alone?
Michael's tone was ingratiating: "Lily."
"I don't know you. Don't come looking for me."
Lily headed straight for the dorm, but Michael stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. She forcefully pulled her hand back. "Let go!"
But Michael staggered from the push and nearly fell.
Lily looked at her own hand. She didn't think she'd used that much force.
Alvin rushed out. "Ms. Roberts, Mr. Roberts is very sick, he..."
