Chapter 153 I Will Never Return to the Roberts Family
Lily thought about what the Harper family said about dragging her family into this, and they really did go to the Roberts family.
Lily replied coolly, "Anyway, I've cut ties with the Roberts family now. This is my own business."
"What can you handle on your own? The Harper family has already come to me, telling me to keep you in line, or next time they won't be so polite."
Lily said coldly, "Last time the Harper family arranged that car accident, I almost died. You call that the Harper family being polite?"
Sophie, standing nearby, heard this and her eyes flickered for a moment.
It seemed everyone now thought Lily's car accident was arranged by the Harper family. That worked out pretty well.
Sophie said with fake concern, "Lily, David is just looking out for you. Even though you've cut ties with the Roberts family, you're still a Roberts family member at the end of the day. That can't be changed."
Austin explained, "Lily, David spent his lunch today drinking with the Harper family people. It was pretty rough on him."
David got angry seeing Lily's fearless expression. "Lily, you need to remember that I, that the Roberts family, cleaned up this mess for you."
"Did I ask you to help? You could have just told the Harper family that I'm no longer part of the Roberts family, and you don't care if I live or die. Wouldn't that have worked?" Lily's gaze was calm, and her whole presence had gotten much stronger.
David flew into a rage. "Lily, you ungrateful brat! I clean up after you and this is what I get?"
Sophie quickly grabbed David. "David, don't be angry. Lily's just stubborn. She doesn't mean it. She'll understand what you went through."
"David, let's talk this out calmly." Austin saw David looking like he wanted to hit someone and stepped between them.
"Why are you stopping me? I said from the start not to let her come study in Empire City, to avoid provoking people we can't handle, people the Roberts family can't protect her from. But she insisted on coming!"
David pointed at Lily's nose. "Do you know how much effort it took me to smooth things over with the Harper family, and I can't even get a thank you from you!"
Lily looked up and gave a slight smile.
Here it was again - talking down to her, blaming her.
Lily raised an eyebrow. "I didn't ask you to do that, and I don't need it!"
She turned and headed down the stairs, not wanting to argue with them anymore.
"Lily, stop right there! Austin, grab her and bring her back! I'm going to take her to meet the Harper family people in person!" David was furious. He thought Lily would have learned her lesson, but she was being so arrogant!
Austin actually ran over and grabbed Lily. "Don't leave yet."
"Don't touch me!" Lily pulled her hand back. She looked at David. "You really think having a simple drink with the Harper family will make them let this go?"
"What else? You think you could handle it yourself? The Harper family's daughter is engaged to the most powerful heir in Empire City. That heir could destroy the Roberts family in Empire City with a snap of his fingers!"
Lily knew that Samantha's sister was engaged to the most powerful heir in Empire City!
Should she just wait around to die?
Lily said coldly, "I have evidence that the Harper family used Theron to launder money through the team base. The Harper family doesn't dare make any moves!"
No matter who it was, having dirt on them gave you bargaining power.
David froze instantly.
Sophie blurted out, "Lily, but if you do that, you'll completely offend the Harper family."
"What else should I do? Wait for you all to look down on me and say I only got off because of the Roberts family? Give me a break!" Lily shot back.
Sophie said sarcastically, "But David did put in effort on this. The Harper family still showed David that respect."
"Stop flattering yourselves. The Harper family just came at lunch to test you, to see if you had the evidence."
Lily looked at Sophie meaningfully. "After all, I have evidence, I have dirt on them. How would they dare make any rash moves?"
Sophie remembered how Lily had threatened her before and suddenly felt guilty, not daring to meet Lily's eyes.
After all, Lily had dirt on her, too, so she didn't dare make any moves either. Lily was warning her!
David's expression wasn't great either, because what Lily said was true.
He had also thought it was strange that the Harper family actually let it go. So this was why!
David felt a bit embarrassed. "Lily, even if you got lucky this time, that doesn't mean you'll be so lucky in the future!"
"Luck counts too." With that, Lily turned and left.
David was furious. "I shouldn't have come today!"
Sophie felt a bit pleased inside. "David, it's my fault for telling you about this. I thought if you came to school, you and Lily could make up, and our family could live together like before. But I didn't expect Lily wouldn't appreciate it!"
"Sophie, how can you say that? Lily isn't being ungrateful - without us, she really would have been fine anyway." Austin felt Sophie's words sounded weird, uncomfortable to hear!
Sophie said carefully, "Austin, did I say something wrong again?"
David spoke up. "Sophie, it's not your fault. It's Lily's bad temper. I'm waiting for the day she can't handle things, let's see what she does then!"
Sophie hung her head pitifully. "I won't make decisions on my own anymore, so I won't be misunderstood as causing trouble."
David immediately looked at Austin. "What's with you? Don't be like Michael."
Austin suddenly felt really frustrated. He hadn't said anything wrong just now - Sophie's words really were inappropriate!
How did it become all his fault!
Austin watched Sophie help David leave, feeling inexplicably annoyed.
Lately, he kept feeling conflicted, feeling like Sophie had changed a lot.
After leaving the building, Lily went straight to an outside gym to practice boxing!
After changing clothes, she suddenly remembered something and took out her phone to message Sophie: [Don't forget what you promised me!]
She was still keeping track of that debt.
Sophie was already in the car by then.
When she saw Lily's message, she quickly deleted it guiltily, her heart racing.
Sophie thought for a moment, then turned to look at David. "David, that artificial intelligence project of Michael's you invested in - could I learn about it?"
"Why do you want to learn about that?" David asked curiously.
"I am a business school student after all. I don't want to be someone who doesn't understand anything. I want to help share your burden."
David nodded with satisfaction. "You're so thoughtful, so much more considerate than certain ungrateful people."
Sophie's smile was a bit stiff. She didn't dare speak.
After sending Sophie the message, Lily went straight to boxing practice.
She got beaten up again, then went back to the house she'd bought, since there were no classes on the weekend anyway.
She also needed to prepare for her livestream - she hadn't streamed last week.
However, this time when Lily started streaming, she felt something was off about the chat.
[Are you actually in a relationship with the Quest University team captain?]
[Did you and Theron plan to hook up in the girls' dorm for thrills, then throw him under the bus when you got caught?]
[How can you be so vicious, playing with Theron's feelings, then abandoning him?]
[Theron confessed to you in the afternoon, and by evening he was at your dorm - you two moved pretty fast!]
Seeing these comments, Lily figured it was probably the Harper family trying to smear her and humiliate her.
Lily turned on her mic. "Theron is trash who used his position as team captain to prey on girls, even taking videos and photos to threaten and blackmail them. I'm not blind enough to fall for someone like that!"
[You say Theron did these things, but no videos or photos have come out. No one but you has said this. You're just making stuff up!]
[Yeah, if Theron took videos and photos, show them to everyone!]
[Female streamers like you make money by sleeping with men, right? Probably just couldn't agree on a price!]
Lily's voice turned cold. "You can trash me all you want, but those videos and photos are like knives stabbing those victim girls. Where do you get the nerve to say you want to see them? Did your mom forget to give you a brain when she had you?"
[Talk all you want - if you can't show video evidence, then you're lying!]
