Chapter 112 After Severing Ties, She Became Stronger
Michael's tone was humble: "Just tell me what happened, and I'll make it right for you."
As long as Lily would calm down, he'd do anything.
Sophie quickly pleaded, "Lily, don't blame Barry. He didn't mean it. I'm adopted anyway, so I really don't deserve to have my birthday as the password."
Barry hurriedly said, "Miss Scott, please don't plead for me. This was all my doing and has nothing to do with you."
Sophie stood in front of Lily, looking humble and wronged as she pleaded.
Michael saw the slap mark on Sophie's face and softened a bit.
He said with frustration: "Sophie, that's not what I meant. This villa was left by our parents, and it's always had Lily's birthday as the password. No one has the right to change it."
Sophie forced an awkward smile: "I know. An adopted daughter like me doesn't have that right. Barry overstepped, and I promise it won't happen again."
Barry said, "Mr. Michael Roberts, I know I was wrong. I'll never take matters into my own hands again! But Miss Scott did nothing wrong."
Seeing Barry and Sophie's good attitude in admitting their mistakes, Michael's tone softened.
He looked at Lily and moved his lips: "Lily, they've both sincerely apologized."
Lily's eyes were full of mockery. As expected, nothing had changed.
Sophie cries a little, apologizes, and then they force her to forgive.
Dennis said coldly, "Can an apology erase the hurt Lily suffered before?"
"Well, we're family after all..."
Michael wanted to say more, but Dennis hit the gas and drove off.
Michael could only watch the car with a bitter smile. Why couldn't Lily understand his difficult position?
They were all family. Couldn't they give each other a chance?
After Lily left, a cold glint flashed in Sophie's eyes.
Sophie turned around and said pitifully, "Michael, Barry has taken care of everything at home all these years. He's so old now, please don't make him leave."
Michael rubbed his temples: "But he can't continue as the butler. I'm demoting him to a regular servant. I've decided to develop my career in Empire City, so let Barry stay here to help you prepare for the SAT and take care of you!"
He felt the Roberts family had treated Sophie well enough. If she didn't make the most of it, she couldn't blame anyone else.
Sophie bit her lip: "Thank you, Michael!"
As long as she could keep Barry for now.
But she wouldn't stay here to prepare for the SAT. She was going to Empire City too!
Don't think about leaving her behind!
Sophie watched Lily's departing car, her eyes full of hatred. One day, she would grind Lily under her feet!
In the car.
Lily hummed happily: "When I hit Sophie just now, my hand went numb! The look on Sophie's face was priceless!"
She thought Sophie should go into entertainment!
Maybe she'd find Sophie's true calling!
Seeing her happy, Dennis thought his earlier worries were unnecessary. Lily had become much stronger now!
He said flatly: "When are you planning to leave?"
"After I finish the paperwork tomorrow, I can buy a plane ticket to Empire City."
Lily glanced at him. After she left, she wouldn't be able to see Dennis often.
After all, he was the school doctor, and his work was here.
Dennis nodded: "Then let's all have dinner tomorrow night."
He hadn't missed the expression on Lily's face, but he couldn't be soft-hearted.
It was time to let go.
The next day, Lily went next door and saw a table full of dishes.
Eric stood nearby: "Lily, tonight's a farewell dinner for you."
"Thanks."
After sitting down, Lily said to Eric, "I hope the investment meeting goes well tomorrow."
"Me too."
Lily looked at Dennis instinctively: "Will you come with us tomorrow?"
After all, it was the company's new project.
Dennis pressed his thin lips together: "I won't go tomorrow. You guys go. Eric is the company's boss."
Hearing he wasn't going, Lily felt disappointed.
Although she knew this day would come, when it actually arrived, she felt reluctant to part.
After dinner, Eric went to the balcony to make a call.
Meeting Lily's gaze, Dennis said calmly, "Be happy from now on. Do whatever you want, don't worry too much about things."
"I know."
Lily looked a bit disappointed.
Dennis avoided her eyes: "After school starts, focus on your studies. Don't rush into dating."
Lily suddenly smiled: "Dating is my freedom."
He instinctively reached out and pressed down on her glass: "Lily, you can't hold your liquor. Don't drink in the future."
"Can you control me for the rest of my life?"
Lily's almond eyes were calm as she quietly looked at the man in front of her.
Lily felt Dennis was really good to her, different from everyone else.
She had once thought he liked her too; otherwise, why would he be so good to her!
But in the end, it proved she was overthinking.
Dennis's throat felt blocked, and after a long pause, he answered: "That's not impossible."
Lily's heartbeat skipped. What did he mean?
Dennis continued: "Since you've cut ties with your brother, you can think of me as your family from now on."
"I don't need another brother."
Lily stood up: "I'm full. I'm going back to my room to pack."
She left feeling disappointed.
Dennis watched Lily's retreating figure, his eyes complicated.
Eric walked in: "Done talking? Ready to let go this time?"
Dennis remained silent, tilted his head back and drained his wine glass, his eyes dark and heavy.
Lily's feelings were easy to understand.
But he didn't deserve her, and had no right.
The next day, Lily and Eric set off together for Empire City.
After getting out of the car, Lily looked outside nervously: "I wonder if our company's work can stand out at this event."
Eric said, "You need to have confidence."
He hadn't expected Lily to actually be talented.
He'd originally thought Dennis was just paving the way for Lily, but she actually had real ability.
They went straight to the investment meeting venue.
Lily went directly to the display area with the materials and their work.
Eric wore a baseball cap covering his face and followed Lily inside.
He looked around and spotted a familiar face, then quickly said, "I'm going to the restroom. Lily, you handle things first."
Lily nodded. After she finished setting up the materials and sat down, she looked up and saw Michael there.
She immediately lowered her head. What were the Roberts family people doing here?
What a small world!
Michael also saw her and walked over happily: "Lily, I didn't expect to see you here!"
Austin frowned and looked Lily up and down: "Lily, why are you wearing Maple Leaf Corporation's clothes? Don't you know their company is currently competing with Michael?"
How could Lily help outsiders?
