Chapter 102 Severing Ties, I Am Serious
If Lily's family were only going to hold her back and stop her from starting a new life.
Then he would pave the way for her himself.
He'd take down anyone who stood in his way, no matter who they were.
Hearing his voice, Lily sniffled: "No need, I've already handled it myself. Don't go after my David, he's not someone to mess with."
David had always been bossy and domineering. She was worried Dennis would get hurt.
After all, David still had some power in Empire City. Dennis, someone without much background, going up against David would be like throwing eggs at a rock.
Dennis narrowed his eyes slightly: "So you think I'm easy to mess with?"
He didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
All these years, it had always been others who couldn't afford to cross him, never someone he couldn't handle!
Seeing the worry and concern in Lily's eyes, Dennis swallowed back the words that had reached his throat.
After all, David might have seen him before. If he showed up, his identity would be exposed.
Before his identity was exposed, he could still be around Lily like this, as friends.
But once his identity was revealed, he would no longer have any right to stay by her side.
Dennis admitted he was hesitating and backing down.
Lily realized she was still holding onto his waist and slowly let go, looking a bit awkward: "I'm glad you're okay. Let's go back then."
Today, she had signed the agreement to cut ties with the Roberts family.
Given how much David cared about his dignity, he definitely wouldn't bother with her anymore.
This was exactly the result she wanted.
At that moment, on the third floor of the hospital.
David stood in the corridor outside the emergency room and happened to see through the glass Lily throwing herself into a man's arms.
But he could only see the man's back, not his face.
He frowned: "That man must be the school doctor, right? He shouldn't be here!"
His subordinate reported, "Mr. Roberts, all the people we sent have disappeared. We can't reach any of them right now."
"How is that possible? He's just a school doctor, where would he get that kind of power?"
Austin said from the side, "David, this man probably has some connections. He was the one who hid Lily in that apartment before, and it took Michael a long time to find her."
"No matter what connections he has, he's just a small-time thug. I think Lily has completely lost her mind. Sooner or later, she'll regret this and cry her eyes out. Starting today, cut off all of Lily's financial support!"
"David, ever since our family officially adopted Sophie and Lily had that falling out with the family, she hasn't spent a penny of the family's money."
David was a bit surprised: "Then how has she been getting by?"
"The school has scholarships. She made a lot of progress in those last few months. Now she's become a popular streamer on the Crayfish streaming platform, so she's not short on money."
When Austin mentioned these things, the guilt in his heart deepened quite a bit.
Now Lily no longer needed to depend on the Roberts family.
David hadn't expected Lily to have become independent. He said angrily, "Just a small streamer, and she thinks so highly of herself. How does that compare to being a daughter of the Roberts family?"
Austin thought to himself, but Lily is still first in the city.
Her future is bright.
Just then, David received a phone call: "Hello, Mr. Roberts, we're teachers from Empire City University admissions. You're Lily's guardian, right? We'd like to discuss her college application intentions."
David snorted coldly: "She won't be going to Empire City for college. She'll stay local."
After saying that, David hung up directly: "With Lily's personality, if she goes to Empire City, who knows what trouble she'll cause. Better to keep her at the local university. At least she'll have the Roberts family looking out for her."
"Shouldn't you discuss this with Lily?"
"Discuss it with her for what?"
Austin felt this wasn't quite right, but still didn't say anything. He sighed: "With Sophie's grades, she'll probably only be able to go to a local university, too."
"Perfect, the two of them can look out for each other. In the future, marrying into a local wealthy family would be pretty good too."
David felt girls didn't need to be so career-focused. Getting married early was fine, too.
Back at the apartment, Lily said uneasily: "Maybe I should find a new place to live."
"You're worried your David will come looking for trouble?"
Dennis now understood why she had suggested moving out before - it was because of this.
Lily nodded: "Yes, my brother David is a very stubborn person. He won't listen to anyone."
Just then, Eric came over: "Lily, why don't you just go straight to Empire City? After all, with your grades, getting into Empire City won't be a problem. Might as well go early and get used to life in Empire City."
In a place like Empire City, what was David anyway!
Lily thought this was a great suggestion. She instinctively looked at Dennis, waiting for his opinion.
Dennis's expression was calm: "That is indeed a good idea."
Once she went to Empire City, she could escape the Roberts family's control.
Lily smiled: "Then it's decided. I'm moving to Empire City!"
She suddenly thought of something and looked at Dennis: "But that way, we won't know when we'll see each other again."
Dennis avoided her gaze: "Lily, studying hard is what you should be doing."
Lily looked away, feeling a bit disappointed.
Eric tried to smooth things over: "All good things must come to an end. I hope you'll have your own wonderful life in Empire City, Lily, and never have to live in the shadow of the Roberts family again."
Lily forced a smile: "You're right."
After all, Dennis didn't like her anyway.
She shouldn't have any other thoughts.
Lily's mood was a bit low: "I'll go back and make some plans then."
She practically fled!
After Lily left, the hall became quiet again.
Eric looked at Dennis meaningfully: "Can't bear to let her go?"
"Her going to Empire City for college means she'll completely get away from the Roberts family. Nothing to be reluctant about, I'm just happy for her!"
"That's right. Take this chance to say a proper goodbye to Lily. The closer you two get, the deeper the hurt she'll suffer in the future."
Dennis's mood suddenly became irritable: "I don't need you to remind me about this."
Eric watched his back. Earlier, when Dennis found out Lily was at the hospital, he immediately gathered people to go there.
When had they ever seen Dennis lose control like this before?
Lily barely slept that night.
Although she was happy about going to Empire City and completely leaving the Roberts family,
she felt a bit down knowing that after she left, she wouldn't be able to see Dennis often.
The next morning, she was woken up by a call from Alex.
"Lily, why did you reject Empire City University's invitation? With your grades, you could totally get into Empire City University's top program!"
"What? I didn't reject anything. I never even got a call from Empire City University."
Lily was instantly wide awake!
Going to Empire City University was her dream!
How could she possibly reject it!
After talking with Alex, Lily figured out that someone from her family must have answered the call!
Maybe David, maybe Michael.
Lily immediately called Michael, who answered with a delighted voice.
"Lily, you're finally willing to contact me on your own."
Lily was shaking with anger: "Did you guys answer the call from Empire City University and reject their invitation for me?"
"Lily, it was David who rejected it for you. He thought it would be better for you to stay local. At least you'd have the Roberts family looking out for you."
Michael quickly explained, "Don't worry, Sophie is going to retake the exam. She won't be studying with you anymore and definitely won't affect you again."
Lily shouted into the phone: "What gives you the right to make that decision for me?"
"Lily, we all think this decision is best for you."
