Chapter 89 Lily Must Not Be Allowed to Be Proud
Lily looked at the reporter's camera, feeling a bit dazed for a moment.
After thinking for a bit, she said, "The people I want to thank most are my family, because they really value education."
"During those last few months of review, it was my brothers' encouragement and support. They even hired a tutor to help me with my studies at home."
"They pushed me to study hard every day, which is how I got such good results today."
After Lily finished speaking, she felt a wave of mockery in her heart.
Sophie, standing nearby, heard this and her eyes went wide. Wasn't Lily just lying through her teeth?
Actually, the Roberts family brothers didn't care that much about grades.
Austin even thought good grades weren't that important, so during the team competition, Austin had her skip school to train and compete in games. That caused her grades to fall way behind.
Her poor performance on this exam had a lot to do with going off to play games at the end.
Why was Lily saying the opposite?
Sophie looked puzzled. Was Lily trying to use this opportunity to make up with her brothers?
The reporter continued: "Ms. Roberts, we heard that your grades weren't outstanding before, but they shot up in the last few months. You even got first place in the entire city on the exam. Was it because the tutor taught you well?"
"No, it's because the teachers at our school taught well."
After the brief interview ended, Lily took photos with the school leaders.
The name that had been covered on the school banner was torn open, and Lily's name was now clearly visible.
Lily was surrounded by everyone like a star, with people wanting to shake her hand for good luck.
Standing to the side, Sophie watched Lily bask in the spotlight. She was so jealous that she broke her fingernail, her eyes turning red with envy.
She never imagined Lily's grades would improve so fast, and that she'd become first in the entire city!
How was this possible?
Lily's grades used to be terrible, even worse than her own.
Calista said indignantly, "Sophie, I just heard Lily thank Richard for the stationery he gave her. Could there be something special between her and Richard? Maybe Richard gave her the answers?
Otherwise, with Lily's grades, how could she possibly become first in the city?"
Sophie had thought of this too. She had also heard Lily say that.
Actually, Lily hadn't used those defective stationery items for the exam, but this woman hadn't let any hint of it slip.
A calculating look flashed in Sophie's eyes: "Go find the reporters later and leak this information."
She believed someone would definitely report and question the authenticity of Lily's results.
Besides, this time Lily had injured Ethan, causing him to be hospitalized with broken ribs. The Murphy Family definitely wouldn't let Lily off.
When that time came, Lily would definitely be pulled down from her pedestal and never get back up.
She needed to go to the hospital right away to stir things up with Ethan.
After Lily finished the reporter interview, she also cooperated with the school on some publicity.
At noon, Alex strongly insisted she attend the school's celebration banquet.
Lily couldn't refuse, so she and Violet walked off the campus together.
A luxury car was parked by the roadside.
Michael got out of the car, looking serious at Lily: "Lily, you need to come with me right now."
"Where to?"
"To the hospital to see Ethan, of course. When you get there, explain things clearly to him and put all the blame on that school doctor. That way, when the Murphy Family comes, they won't give you trouble."
This was the solution he and Austin had worked out.
Hearing this, Lily just found it ridiculous: "I remember I already refused very clearly last night. Michael, which part didn't you understand? Do I need to repeat it?"
"Lily, now's not the time to be stubborn and throw a tantrum. If the Murphy Family comes after you, not only you, but our entire Roberts family will be affected."
Lily answered mockingly: "Don't worry, I won't drag the Roberts family into this."
"Whether you drag us in or not isn't up to you. This matter isn't as simple as you think. Austin has already talked things through with Ethan. As long as you go apologize to Mr. Murphy and explain clearly, he won't hold you responsible."
Lily frowned: "I refuse. I have more important things to do right now."
"Lily, how long are you going to keep this up? What could be more important than this right now?"
Violet raised her voice: "Obviously, attending the celebration banquet for our city's first-place winner is more important."
Michael frowned: "I heard the city's first place is from your school, but that's someone else's business. Lily, you should handle your own matters first. Why join in that excitement?"
Violet raised her voice even higher: "Because if Lily doesn't attend today's celebration banquet, then the banquet can't start."
Michael's tone became unfriendly: "Lily isn't that important. Why would they need to wait for her to start?"
"Because our idol Lily is the city's first-place winner! How could the celebration banquet start without her?"
Violet had waited so long and finally could hold her head high today.
Lily's brother's attitude just now was really infuriating. He didn't care at all about Lily's grades, just came up and so domineeringly told Lily to go apologize!
"What did you say? You're saying first place is Lily?"
"That's right. Looks like everyone knows except you Roberts family people. And you claim to be Lily's brother, but you don't care about her at all."
Michael's head buzzed. He seemed a bit shocked, with an expression of disbelief.
He never imagined Lily would be first in the city.
He looked up and saw the banner hanging at the school that read: "Congratulations to our student Lily for achieving first place in the city."
These festive words somehow seemed glaring to him at this moment.
Michael still seemed unable to accept this reality.
He tentatively said, "Didn't they say you didn't do well on the first exam? Because of those stationery items?"
Lily's tone was heavily mocking: "So what?"
Michael swallowed nervously: "Lily, I'm happy for you. It's just that this news is really shocking and unexpected."
No one expected the Roberts family to produce a city-wide first-place winner!
Violet explained from the side: "That top student who failed the first exam wasn't Lily, it was someone else. But Sophie deliberately pinned it on Lily, probably jealous that Lily did better than her, so she smeared her reputation in advance."
Michael instinctively defended: "Sophie isn't that kind of person. She probably just assumed that because of the defective stationery incident. She didn't mean anything by it."
Because he himself had thought the same thing.
But who could have known Lily would give them all such a big surprise?
At this moment, Alex, Richard, and those reporters also came out.
Alex glanced at Michael and said, "Lily's brother, perfect timing. Come join us for the celebration banquet."
A reporter immediately held out a microphone toward Michael: "We heard Ms. Roberts' grades shot up in the last few months, which couldn't have happened without your care as family members. I'd like to ask what kind of experience you can share with everyone?"
