Chapter 74 Follow Me
Lily grabbed the table. "Let go!"
Dennis stepped in and blocked Michael. "If you want to cancel the partnership, you can leave now. Lily isn't your pet; she has the freedom to choose."
Michael had no choice but to agree.
The group headed straight to the restaurant.
Michael glanced at Dennis. "Mr. Gonzalez, I didn't expect you to have such a wide range of interests outside of your main job."
Dennis's tone was cool. "Yeah, at least my family never suppresses my hobbies in the name of fairness."
Lily's lips curled slightly. He was clearly taking a jab at Michael.
Michael responded calmly, "So, Mr. Gonzalez, what does your family do?"
Lily spoke up cautiously. "Why are you asking about this? It has nothing to do with work, right?"
"I'm just asking casually."
Michael maintained his hostility toward Dennis.
On the way here, Michael had realized that Dennis was the one orchestrating everything behind the scenes.
If Lily hadn't solved the firewall issue, the partnership would likely have been canceled!
Dennis leaned back in his chair, one hand resting on the table, exposing part of his wrist. He answered slowly, "My family runs a small business."
Eric choked on his drink.
He actually said a small business!
What a shameless lie! If Dennis's family's business was considered small, then everyone else's must be tiny.
Lily realized she knew almost nothing about Dennis.
He had mentioned business trips for work, but she knew nothing about them.
Their connection was actually quite fragile.
Michael continued his questioning. "If it's a small business, then there should be a company. What's its name?"
Eric tried to smooth things over. "Mr. Roberts, are you investigating a case here? You're asking too many details."
"Mr. Gonzalez took my sister away. As her brother, I have the responsibility to find out more, don't I, Mr. Gonzalez?"
Lily felt uncomfortable. "But we're just friends. Asking these questions will make things awkward between us. Have you considered my feelings?"
Michael calmed down. "Alright, if you're unhappy, I won't ask anymore."
Lily lost her appetite.
Lily glanced at Dennis, knowing his reserved nature. Michael's intrusive questions must have upset him.
Dennis noticed Lily's downcast expression and sent her a message on his phone: [Eat seriously.]
Lily received the message and looked at him, surprised.
She replied: [I didn't know Michael would ask such questions. Sorry.]
[I'm not angry.]
Seeing his response, Lily felt slightly relieved. At least he wasn't mad.
The atmosphere at the dinner improved a bit.
Lily went to the restroom midway, feeling a strange mix of emotions. She realized she really didn't know Dennis at all.
When she exited the restroom, she saw a tall man leaning against the wall.
Dennis was standing there, holding his phone, his long fingers scrolling through something.
Lily saw his profile, half hidden in the shadow of the light.
She walked over. "I didn't expect you to be back today."
"The timing worked out."
Dennis put his phone away, his gaze falling on her. "Why did you go to Michael's company? You never mentioned it."
"I was involved in the project, and I was responsible for the firewall. Michael's secretary called me for help. He was nice to me before, so I didn't want to see him struggle."
She had agreed to help out of respect for Alvin's dignity.
Walking beside Dennis, Lily glanced at his shadow, feeling unexpectedly better.
They returned to the room together.
Michael saw the smile on Lily's face and felt irritated.
Lily used to smile like that at him, but now she didn't even want to argue with him.
Michael picked up a glass of wine and walked over to Dennis. "Cheers."
Dennis, with a cold expression, took the glass. "I hope the game she worked on becomes a hit."
"Exactly, I think the same. After all, Lily has shares in the Roberts Group and will receive dividends in the future."
Lily found this amusing.
She did have shares in name.
But in her previous life, those shares were used to compensate Sophie.
So in this life, she never thought about those shares; they were irrelevant to her.
Eric sensed something was off and quickly said, "Dennis is young and talented, investing in various companies, and will receive dividends too."
The Roberts family dared to call Dennis poor?
Michael drank his wine and suddenly changed the topic. "Mr. Gonzalez, being young and accomplished, do you have a girlfriend?"
Dennis gripped his wine glass tightly, his lips pressed together as if he was hesitating.
Eric answered quickly. "Of course he does."
Lily's fork slipped from her hand, falling to the ground.
She blushed and quickly bent down to pick it up, her heart racing uncontrollably.
Lily picked up the fork and looked at Dennis with a complex expression, feeling a strange pang in her heart.
Dennis seemed to make a decision and spoke. "We're still getting to know each other."
Lily felt her ears buzzing, unable to hear anything else.
Dennis glanced at Lily, but she kept her head down, her expression hidden.
He knew he was being cruel.
But if she knew who he really was, it would be a thousand times more cruel than now.
In just a brief moment, Dennis's thoughts raced. He casually smiled. "Who knows? It's all about the feeling."
Michael continued. "I know many socialites who would be a good match for Mr. Gonzalez. Fair-skinned, beautiful, long-legged. Would you like to meet them?"
Lily's eyelashes fluttered, and she firmly spoke. "There's no need!"
Michael was surprised. He thought it was very necessary!
To prevent any entanglement between Lily and Dennis!
If Dennis was after money with ulterior motives, Michael needed to know how to deal with him.
Michael deliberately said. "Fine, I'll listen to you. But when you get married, you'll need to find someone with a good background, and I'll make sure of it."
Lily remembered how Michael had accused her of seducing Ethan in her past life.
Michael had told her she was shameless and trying to climb the social ladder.
Lily coldly replied. "Mr. Roberts, have you forgotten we've severed ties?"
Michael's face darkened. "Lily, can't you show me some respect in front of others? Don't air our dirty laundry in public. Don't you understand?"
