Chapter 63 Her Identity being Exposed
Lily glanced over at Dennis, who had just sat down, and felt her face flush immediately.
"Uh, you got it wrong," She stammered. "He's not my boyfriend."
The barbecue joint owner laughed, "Yeah, sure. You young folks always say that. But he's a good-looking guy."
Blushing, Lily returned to her seat. Across from her, Dennis looked up, "What did he say?"
"Nothing, Dr. Gonzalez. Want to order anything?"
"I'm not hungry."
Dennis wasn't into this kind of food. He noticed the restaurant owner had brought over some snacks and two cans of beer.
He frowned at Lily, "You shouldn't drink."
"I'm an adult now. Why can't I have a drink?"
Lily felt proud of herself for signing a streaming contract with Crayfish today. She was finally financially independent, with her own source of income.
Why couldn't she celebrate?
Dennis took the beer from in front of her and moved it to his side, "Nope."
Lily felt a bit frustrated.
Just then, Dennis's phone rang. He stood up, "I'll take this."
Lily watched him walk away and slyly took the beer back.
If he said she couldn't drink, she would do it anyway.
Dennis walked to the side of the road and answered the phone, "Hey, Mom."
"Dennis, are you still busy in Imperial City?"
"Almost done."
"Good, we need to start talking about your engagement to the Harper family's daughter. What do you think?"
Dennis stared at the long shadows on the road, his tone indifferent, "We'll talk about it when I get back. Take care of yourself."
"The Harper girl is nice. She visits me often when you're not around. Since you don't have a girlfriend, why not marry someone suitable? What do you think?"
Dennis's expression turned cold, his eyes sharp.
He pressed his lips together, his tone gentle, "Take care of yourself."
After calming his mother down a bit, he hung up the phone.
He glanced at his phone and sent a message: [Look into the Harper family's recent activities.]
Dennis stood there, silent and still.
After a moment, he turned back towards Lily and saw her drinking the beer.
His brows furrowed as he strode over to her, "Who said you could drink that?"
He took the beer from her hand. She tilted her head to look at him, "I did. Is that a problem?"
Dennis noticed several empty cans on the table. It looked like she had drunk quite a bit.
Expressionless, Dennis helped Lily to her feet. "Lily, wake up!"
"What?"
"We're going home."
Lily shook her head, "I don't have a home anymore. I'm a wanderer now."
Dennis saw the tear stains in her eyes and pulled her into his arms, his voice calm, "Stop kidding around."
"I'm not kidding. I'm perfectly sober."
Lily looked up at Dennis, his side profile handsome.
She couldn't help but touch his face, "Dr. Gonzalez, has anyone ever told you you're very handsome?"
Dennis's throat moved slightly, but he didn't respond. He walked towards the parking lot.
After putting Lily in the passenger seat, he got into the driver's seat.
Once seated, he glanced at her, "Seatbelt."
Lily blinked, "Right, seatbelt, safety first!"
She reached for the seatbelt but couldn't seem to pull it out. Dennis, unable to watch any longer, leaned over to help her with the seatbelt.
At that moment, they were very close.
He could smell the beer on her.
She could see the length of his eyelashes.
Lily held her breath, her mind racing, and hugged his arm.
Dennis paused, turning to see her eyes.
His throat moved slightly, "What..."
Lily leaned in and kissed him. Afterward, she felt extremely nervous.
He stayed still, the streetlights outside blurring his side profile, making it hard to see his expression.
Lily stammered, "Dr. Gonzalez, if you don't have a girlfriend, what do you think of me?"
Dennis's pupils contracted sharply. It was as if he had been electrocuted, quickly pulling back.
His hand gripped the steering wheel. "You're drunk."
Dennis started the car, heading towards the apartment.
The drive was silent.
Dennis's mood took a long time to calm down.
When the car stopped at a red light, he glanced at the passenger seat. Lily was already asleep.
In his many years of life, he had never felt so conflicted as he did moments ago, and she had fallen asleep.
He hoped she wouldn't remember what happened when she woke up.
Dennis drove back to the apartment and carried Lily to her room.
He looked at her lying on the bed, removed her high heels, and pulled the covers over her.
He stood by the bed for a while, his expression complex and deep.
As he turned to leave, he heard her voice, "Mom, I want some water."
He paused, feeling a tightness in his chest as she called for her mother.
Dennis fetched a glass of water.
He sat by the bed, helping Lily drink.
After she finished, she hugged him, "Mom, I miss you. You're the best."
Dennis's hand tightened around the glass.
At that moment, he felt like he was sinking into the depths of the ocean, unable to resurface.
Late at night, the streetlights outside illuminated the room.
Dennis looked at the sleeping girl, sensing that something had changed.
The next morning.
Lily woke up with a pounding headache, rubbing her dizzy head.
Did she drink too much last night?
She remembered sneaking some beer while Dennis was away, but couldn't recall anything after that.
Lily noticed she was still wearing yesterday's dress, which felt uncomfortable.
She quickly took a shower, feeling a bit better afterward.
Lily still couldn't remember what happened while she was drunk.
She checked her phone and saw reports about her identity being exposed.
[Popular streamer SweetLemon's true identity: She's the daughter of the Roberts family!]
Lily knew her identity would be exposed after participating in the event.
She didn't plan to hide it.
Exposure was good; it would clear up the rumors about her having a secret benefactor.
As for Austin's confident claims that she would join Titan Team, they were met with heavy ridicule.
At that moment, her phone rang.
The number looked familiar; it was probably Austin.
Lily ignored the call, smirking.
What made Austin so confident that she would join the Titan Team? Her game forum inbox was flooded with private messages.
[Lily, answer the phone. Are you afraid to pick up because you're guilty?]
[Lily, I order you to explain to the media that you've been begging to join Titan Team.]
